JOB WAS A TOTAL LOSS

  • You win some, you lose some. This job was a total loss because we charged the customer $2500 to remove these 5 trees and ended up making $0 after repairing the customers shed + job expenses (paying crew, dumping, diesel). We started zip lining the pine tree I was tied into and one of the lower limbs was longer than I expected, and when I cut it off it dropped down too far and smacked the shed below. What I should have done is rigged that limb out because it was too long to zipline over the shed.

    Good to see you keeping professional about it after the mishap.. Some people would make mistake after mistake after that . As long as you take responsibility and repair the damages its all good ... I have heard of a few guys screwup like this and run ..

    Was thinking as you went up “this would be a great tree to zip line” sure enough that’s what happened.

    Dang! That's just unfortunate! If you were worried it would get hung up trying to lower it but thought it was big enough to second guess if you should lower it maybe moving the anchor point away from the shed would have eliminated the risk? Maybe putting the strap out further to balance it? Looked like you were high enough up there to clear it, who would have thought there was like 6 more ft of material buried in that other tree. I would call that a valuable lesson in expecting the unexpected. With how much education costs, I would say you made out really well. Thanks for sharing, I still think you handled that job with skill.

      His ground guy boned him on that one. Not enough pre-tension on the zip line. Looks like they didn’t have a Bollard or Porta-wrap on the chipper to wrap the rope around to maintain rope tension for a heavy branch.

    Retired math teacher here. Suggestion: increase your estimates 😂 and have homeowners sign a waiver that you are not responsible if a structure is "too close" to the tree being removed. Love your videos❤

      As a tree climber, we all remove trees that are close to structures like this all the time. The customer would go with someone else if they saw print like that in the estimate…it is what it is, it happens to the best of us…just gotta learn from it

      @@ArmaliteTreeGuyI was about to to reply the same thing. Unfortunately it's part of it. I just took out a freaking electric pole last week. It was so rotten that it just came right over by barely being touched by a limb. Sucks to suck I guess. I'll try to suck less

    That sucks man accidents happen but if you would of clipped the one above it to not as much slack would of went into the system and it would of cleared more than likely bc the two below it cleared with way more room

    • @VerticalTrees
      @VerticalTrees  23 дня назад +4

      The job was quoted for $2500, the cost of parts for shed repair was $1150, labor charge for someone from the shed company to come out and fix it was $500, crew pay was $500, stump grinding was $400, dumping was $77, and about $150 for diesel. That adds up to over $2700 so this job was unfortunately a complete and total loss.
