I never got really into adv, DS are something that made my childhood great, and riding then are simply great, I hope they really made a comeback

@B..B. Dualsport started the adv world. And they are always gonna win when it comes to the off-road riding, and it simplicity .

a modded DR650 seems to be the best of both worlds. still VERY road capable, but still VERY off road fun.
also the honda XR650 (if you can handle the tall seat height)

I run a dual sport so I at least stand a small chance on keeping up with the kids on their 2strokes 😅

@sicsempertyrannis4104 😆 The kids take them 2 strokes to the tracks, and then they haule them back home on trailer . And some dualsport riders staring to do this to

Road some dirt bikes in my very early years. As of a few years ago, I went by way the dualsport : best of both worlds, right.🤔 Can go deep offroad, yet still travel the roadways.
I gave up the dualsports for a couple of reasons. Mainly indo enjoy riding the bike around and to destination over hauling. A dualsport is inadequate for fast highway and/or long distances. We all know this. But what i found out, for myself anyway, with the smaller bikes, I continually went "deeper down the rabbit hole" of trails constantly leading myself (with buddies) down more difficult trails/tracks "because I could with the small bike". Then I constantly found that I was asking myself how and why I got myself down a ln imposible ravine or some near-verticle hill with rock ledges or loos shale, etc. Slick clay mud...did I mention near verticle 😂.
In comes the mid-size ADV bike. I can ride it highway easily and fast and long like my road bike. I can take it down fire roads, back country dirt roads, dual track, green lanes, moderate difficult trails, BDRs, and it carries my gear well for moto-camping.
If I could ONLY ever have 1 bike now and it only forever, I would elect a mid size ADV bike (450cc-900cc), second choice would the larger ADV bikes (>1000cc).
These bikes can still carry a passenger too.

@onemileattatime2642 Thank you so much for sharing your experience .
Next season, I'm thinking about trading my bike for a smaller ADV to give it a try. T7 or the new Suzuki Vstrom 800 de ... something in this category .

DS vs ADV haunts me. I seem to continually go back and forth between them. For me having only money and space for one bike i need something that can do both which means a fairly powerful single cylinder lightweigt adv. The market for this is heating up so im excited to see what comes out. But for now I have a T7 which is a tad more on the adv side but does super well offroad as long as it's not tight winding single track

@joshdoddadbod I'm thinking about trading my bike. I've the ST 1200, and it is a little bit heavy for the off-road. I'm thinking about the T7 or the Suzuki vstrom 800de . Or keep what I have and add a small dualsport

@ADVDad-hw9ls all good options. Guess it depends on the type of adventure riding you do. I tend to do a lot of dirt roads with some offroad trails intermixed so need something more offroad oriented. I'm definitely curious about the 800de. I think having 2 bikes ends up being a great solution though.

@joshdoddadbod i got rid of my car 3 years ago, and I wanted a bike that can do it all. I commute with mine 90% of the time, and at the riding season, I'm searching for trails and looking for trouble 😆 but I go with my friends to make sure I will make it out 😆

@ADVDad-hw9ls haha nice. Might make sense to have 2 bikes then so you have a spare to commute with if one goes out of commission.

I take ADV much comfortable for longer journeys as most of the engine is 2 cylinders

@NormanHughesdix I have 4 friends who sold the single cylinder after one year of owning them. And now they ride an adventure motorcycle.
It's just feels great to have that horsepower.
