  • Welcome back to another episode of Jives Fishing - sorry the long wait! We are back today with a special video at Bedok Jetty where we decided to give away all the fish we caught (including other fishes caught at Ah Lim's fishing pond and other fishing locations) to a community freezer in Block 441 Tampines. We read about the community freezer idea recently and thought it was interesting and meaningful as we could share fishes with people who may need them more than us. Anyway, we were rewarded with a Tenggiri papan (Spanish mackerel) and bluespotted fantail ray which we deposited in the community freezer together with a collection of other fishes including giant trevally, batfishes, snappers, groupers and barramundis totalling 18 kg. Hope you guys enjoy this episode!

    Well done guys! Good job on giving away to charity. Apart from the comments made by others, may I also suggest (as a fellow angler) that if you dont intend to consume those caught in the wild, to please let it go back to the sea. Its ok to keep the pay pond fish but do let the wild ones go. Thanks and once again, good job!

    • @JivesFishing
      @JivesFishing  3 года назад +1

      Usually we pick the smaller kelong sotongs and use whole, double hook. If big then cut into strips seems better. Daytime not very effective unless targeting stingray or catfish.

    Hi bro, I am interested to pick up fishing. Can u recommend a good beginners rod/reel setup? I guess I will mostly be doing jetty and inshore fishing. Budget can be up to $200 and hopefully be able to catch sizable fish that is big enough for the family 😄

    • @qinios4955
      @qinios4955 3 года назад +1

      3000-5000 size reels would work, I suggest trying to get shimano/daiwa reels, 40-70 dollars, like the shimano sienna or daiwa revros.
      Rod.. quite versatile, the Storm series is a reliable and well prices rod.. Another one i suggest are ugly stik rods. ($60 range)

    • @JivesFishing
      @JivesFishing  3 года назад +1

      Hi bro, you can consider going down to Sincere fishing tackle or Gary tackle and ask them to recommend! Quite affordable and the owners are friendly. We are not that knowledgeable regarding setup haha but for jetty fishing, maybe a 9ft rod with a 4000 reel with 30lb line would be good.

      @@qinios4955 Thanks for the recommendation. I was actually looking at similar brands. I read Ugly Stik Elite or GX2 with Daiwa BG reel is a popular match. What do you think? But BG is around $150, more expensive than the Revros. Is BG really much better?

    • @qinios4955
      @qinios4955 3 года назад

      @@sc5534 Daiwa BG is a very reliable saltwater reel. A little on the heavier side, the reel is used for heavy jigging, and surfcasting. Recommended you have a long rod (maybe 8 or 9ft) to pair with this reel for surfcasting. I would suggest buying a Revros for now as it is cheaper and more versatile to use. Revros is more smaller than the BG reel, so you need not need to buy a high rating line/alot of line. Revros also lighter. Currently I am using the Shimano Vanford 5000 size. What I look for in a reel for shore fishing and jetty fishing is that it is light, decent size and salt water resistant.
