Midst is an audio drama in which three mischievous narrators spin a surreal, reality-bending, sci-fantasy, space western about a crotchety outlaw, a struggling cultist, and a diabolical bastard making awful decisions in a world on the edge of disaster.
Some themes and situations that occur in-show may be difficult for some to handle. If certain episodes or scenes become uncomfortable, we strongly suggest taking a break or skipping that particular episode.

The difference between a villain and a super villian. PRESENTATION!
Megamind knows what's up!
I don't know if this music gets put up on Spotify, but that military theme of the Baron's was a straight bop. A real banger. I'd sure as hell listen to that.
Music is made available to download for paid subscribers periodically. I assume they will release this and a few of the main character themes when season 2 ends.
@@hunterwallasus3582 Where do you subscribe exactly? And is this music ready?
The sound design in this show is just the most unique storytelling experience I've ever had. The way there is a brief bassy rumble when Zeela thinks "Sherman is dead" and of course the Baron's music. That pause where there is just music was phenomenal as I realized my imagination filled that gap in narration with a cinematic visual of the ship coming into view. This show is just amazing!
Ok but that THEME. Cannot wait to see more of that character in the future.
Also, congrats on the first sponsor y’all.
I like to think Lark bolted because she was presciently hearing Kozma Laszlo's boss music 😆
@@thallium6754 I mean, you might not be wrong about why she bolted though. Kozma doesn’t seem like good news.
I mean, we’ve already heard her name (Cosma Laslo) mentioned like 5 times, but I didn’t think we were actually going to meet her
@@kailunartic6647 Yeah, Weepe has referred to Kozma a few times, so we know that she used to own midst, but she sold it to the trust.
Once again, the music used to set the mood, and put you dead center in the vibe is IMPECCABLE.
Also how do I get one of those cute little fold-octos as a pet?
I would get one if they ever made them as merch plushies.
Lark saying to Phineas“This is who you are now. It’s part of you” and “there is no amount of good deeds that will erase what you did” feels sooo much like she’s recalling her history with her own kill, (maxemillion loxlee) and how she herself has been hunted for that act all her life… (pretty sure she was like ~10 ish? When she killed Max? It was very very young I think…?)
Very young, and not a pretty death as well, blundgeoned to death with a shadowbox.
@@hunterwallasus3582 How large are shadowboxes again?
Oh, no doubt, Lark was projecting HARD at Phineas.
After this episode, I'm not sure any more, who the monster in the first episode is any more. There are too many candidates, who would qualify for that epithet, specially from the own point of view. Also, I feel for eveyone in this scene.
How long before Phineas start to put all the pieces together, regarding who Lark really is. I feel, he has almost all the pieces necessary for the puzzle to click.
What I'm looking forward too persionally, is when Phineas puts all the pieces together and figures out who He really is. (and finally throws away that last useless bead of Kynim.
im still kinda bent on the fact that the monster is Weepe, i mean if Imelda knows so much about his condition, she'll def use him for something as devious as taking over the Trust or smthin
Plottwist: (as a joke) The Monster is Jonas Spahr, when he didn`t help Weepe he showed that in reality he is no paragon of valor, but just to quote Weepe " A dog on a leash of the trust". He didn`t help Weepe because he thaught what Imelda was doing was right, but because he didn`t want to damage his position in the trust.
I love so much when they speak over each other.
Right? It's something you don't see often in media, but happens all the time in real life.
That music when the ship showed up was so badass. Just so threatening and ominous, loved it!
"Are you high?" 'Well there was this moth' what a line.
Lark admitted that she slept with Sherman a few times? Unwilling mother
That's some hot tea.
I feel like she would have known if she gave birth to Zila
Pretty sure Sherman fled from the Trust with Tzila (I think it was mentioned, but might have it wrong). That's why she's in breach, too.
'It has a hood ornament and everything' - this calibre of writing just hasn't been seen this century
Will Kirby's backgrounds are by far my favorites in the visuals of the series. Very vibrant colors, detailed landscapes, and unique stylization.
I was so sure Weepe was going to roll out of that ship
Thank god for Lark. If somebody hadn't popped Phineas' bubble of delusion, I would have lost it. Kozma Laszlo??! What??! Why?? 😮 And, why pomp at 3am?!🤦🏾♀️
It felt weird suddenly hearing a sponsor ad but I will not complain since it helps support this magnificent show
I will. I hate the fact that they are now doing ads. I am almost positive they have a patron and even paying on Spotify to get episodes ahead of time. I pay for youtube to not get ads pushed to me I don't want ads anywhere near me
@@TheShadowWolf1573 It's not like it's in the middle of the episode. You can easily just skip ahead to when it's over.
@@Shadow_284 I'll give you that. I want the ads at the end of the episode of anything
@@TheShadowWolf1573 a bit late of a response, but you can add deArrow and its sibling addons/plugins to your browser to auto-skip sponsor segments
I live for the moment on my lunch on Wednesdays when I get to listen to the awe-inspiring stories of Midst. It makes me feel like I can make it through the rest of my week, like it is the catalyst for Friday being ever closer.
This was such a good episode. I am so glad for the clarity the characters finally have gained. The story progression is so freaking good, and you guys are amazing storytellers. I'm always at the edge of my seat and can't wait for next week's next reveal 😁
The narrators did an excellent job this time and continue to amaze! Looking forward to every drop of Midst to come
OK seriously how do you end on that kind of cliffhanger. Things are getting really really good and then all of a sudden we realize how much time has elapsed. But yeah perfect title for this particular chapter. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next. As well as figuring out who that person is That announced themselves to the islet.
What a great unintentional self-revelation from Lark there. I'm curious if Phineas caught that or if he'll realise what Lark revealed about herself here at some point in hindsight.
The submarine theme came un and immediately I went it's a Bocular F150
Well, just a matter of time before Tzila realizes that Lark doesn't want Phineas to go get Sherman because she doesn't want the trust knowing about her and her position...not any protective instinct toward Tzila herself. Poor Phineas can just never catch a break.
SPOILERS
okay but Lark and Sherman doing the did before AHA I KNEW IT
Holy shit the MUSIC at the end, chills
My theory is that Kozma Laszlo wanted something with Phineas. Thinking back to when he rescued the boy. Some small shipped missed it chance that time. Kozma is then negotiating the sale of Midst with The Trust. Next minute, the moon unexpectedly blows up and we end up here. Phineas also doesn't remember his childhood. What if he's a child of Kozma? I love the red string theories my brain thinks of with this show!!!
Verizon sponsor! Moving up Midst! Love the storytelling - best part of my Wednesdays!
More like moving down. They haven't needed a sponsor up until this point. It feels more like Critical Role trying to recoup money they lost acquiring this comparatively unpopular show.
@@WolfHeathen Doesn't Critical Role's main campaign have like.....SEVERAL sponsors? And you don't disparage them for it. This really feels like hating for hating's sake.
I have a feeling the Baron isn't...great. Also, kudos on getting a sponsor!!!
Nah, what gave you that idea? Was it the blaring evil authoritative techno music in the background, or the all black giant expensive malevolent ship. I don’t know, they all seem pretty nice to me.
Thunderous militaristic theme music INDEED!!!
I feel for Lark. Being childfree in philosophy and being stuck to take care of a child when you are an even OK person who can't just leave it there is rough.
Welp, she seems like a problem. A fun problem, though. Not like Imelda, who started all saccharine sweetness and got so much worse from there.
They didn’t rhyme for the rest of the episode :(
lol, such unreliable narrators indeed
Congrats on the sponsor. I love the description of how many weapons Lark is caring. What a tense episode. And Poor Tzila.
Well. I guess we know where that sudden feeling of dread came from
Funny how much righteous indignation Lark has given that she's the only cold blooded murderer here.
Phineas in a doorway again, yay! XD
Damn, the way Lark was talking about herself and revealing so much about her inner ongoings is wild
This show is probably my favorite fiction to come out of 2023. So far. Who knows, there is still some time left.
18:32 is a banger! More of moments like that please
GOD, I am *Hooked* on the Baron's theme. It's so good I can't help but just listen to that section over and over.
EYOOOO can I get this Laszlo theme as a separate track for DnD games or just to vibe on spotify or something??? That shit slaps hard!!
Where can I buy a fold Manta Ray
Thank you for making my Wednesday every Wednesday!
i'm so glad they finally got sponcered, hell yeah verizon!
Oh geez, that music drop when the foldmersible showed up. Ominous as hell.
and poor Tzila... Finding out the worst news, and more, and right when she'd made the choice to go with Lark...
Well that was a roller coster, and I cant wait to see who the hell this Kozmo is.
Check the appendix’s! There’s one from season 1 that’s a letter from her to weepe!
Didn't she own the moon that was hanging over Midst, or the mining operations thereon? The one that, you know, exploded?
@@hunterwallasus3582 How does one access said appendices?
@@Landis963 she also owned Midst and sold it to the Trust. That's why she kind of was the "mayor" of Midst before. So yeah, she's super rich and not necessarily a nice person...
I would like that theme, please.
Just remembered that Tzila caught something from Lark's reading before it fell off the table, so her sticking with Lark is something that's going to save her in the near future. Very excited for that!
Pardon me, gotta head bang. BRB
My cat looked as wide-eyed and unnerved as I felt at the end with the music. I still got chills.
Yay for the sponsor! You guys are incredible! Thank you for sharing your stories with us!
Well, this is something new.
18:30. That's what you came back to listen to
Whenever the Lark theme drops 👀
Just when things were getting cleared up, this worlds equivalent of a rouge trader apears
Out of curiosity, what are you defining as a rogue trader in our world?
@@CephandrianJES rogue traders are just super space colonizers. I don’t know if the Baron is that, but it has same vibes where they announce to an entire planet “ATTENTION, I’M HERE, THIS PLANET BELONGS TO ME NOW”.
My memory is terrible and I can't remember who this Lazslo is 😅
@@CephandrianJES I assume this is a Warhammer 40K reference. So, not actually in "our world".
@@VI_VA. the person who owned midst (and maybe it's moon, I'm not sure) and sold it to the Trust. So super rich and not necesserily very nice.
A grand enterance for sure...what way to make it feel compelling to return.
That was great! :D
That synth drop...
✌
"A struggling cultists" is such a perfect description of Phineas. In the previous episode with the moth the mothers directly told him he can't change what he's done or make up for it, and yet he even with his new awakening he was still thinking the same way the Trust would. He was raised to be that way, subservient and dependent on the Trust and its systems. His real struggle isn't integration into Trust society, it's to be a good person outside of it.
18:02 (MUSIC)
Kozma Laszlo is giving The Duke from "Escape from New York" with that entrance
And I thought MY neighbors were loud at 3am!
Truly wonderful
What an ending
Um, kaaaay. NOW what?
We wait till next week. Only 4 more episodes to go!
I love how they emphasize the importance of this new character by letting the music sit for a moment before the narration kicks back in.
Congrats on the sponsor!
You get that ad money!
Love it
I stand with Kozma and I don't know them at all
this just keeps getting better
Truth bombs thrown.. man poor Tzila, that’s a lot to take in, all the facts and happenings she’s trying to deal with cranked up 1000%… I am very glad the truths were shared, but man. I hope it gets all talked and worked out before they are torn away again..
And the man who's been up to something since we first met him, at the party, finally makes an overt play.
kozma laszlo? Originally Hungarian EE and computer designer…
Poor tzila. I wanna give her a hug
You guys get me through my subway commute to and from work , you have no idea how important to me this is.
Music in midst is always so fire
This podcast is incredible why doesn't it have more likes
Sponsorships let's goooo
Congrats on the sponsorship!
Is that the fourth narrator I hear?
Hi
Hi!
Well howdy there chum _hmm hmmm hmm_
Isn't Verizon awful? I'm not from the US
Yeah I think they're like Plus net for those of us from the UK
Verizon is generally a "premium" internet/phone carrier. They usually offer the best options, but always a bit pricey so sometimes it's hard to justify. Definitely not the worst, but the way infrastructure works in the US a lot of people end up with limited options for viable carriers. If VZ is your only available carrier they might price gouge you. In those situations they're as awful as every other internet provider in this godforsaken country.
Indeed. They're your typical "charge an arm and a leg for sub-par services" kind of company.
Sponsored message in the beginning really sours the mood.
Done with this quote on quote channel just done its not what i originally subed to so good by
what?
Good Bye.
Good riddance XD
Buh Bye Now
I’m sure you’ll be missed
The farther and farther this goes the less and less I like lark. The epitome of hypocrisy.
