Hey guys, I want to once again give my thanks to all of you for your non stop support of this series. I was extremely nervous watching how it would be received, but it's actually become one of the most viewed video series on my channel! I would personally like to end the series here, but I want to know what YOU guys want. Would you like to see the series continue? And if so, what would you like to see us cover next? Let me know!
Nice video. Could be interesting to have a ''returning players" video for the people who completed the game in first month or 2 and are checking back in now that all 4 dlc are here. I am personally looking into coming back, but most videos seem to cover specific patches or are outdated. I finished the main storyline in mayhem 3, got pretty much all good loot there was to get from farming Graveward and the loot tinkers (sue me :)). What do I do when I come back? start from 0 on a new class and play through the awful story again before jumping in the dlc? Do I slowly ramp up the mayhem modes 'till 10? Are there heroes/skill lines that are significantly different? (Last I remember the only real 'viable' classes were ricochet Amara, crit-1shot everything Flak, unlimited grenade spam Moze and weak ass Zane)
Not know, this is an amazing series, maybe after some more dlc you could do a dlc recap or as suggested some guides for returning players. Keep up the good work regardless 😉
I feel that the plan you outlined at the end of the video sounds correct. Combine this with theory crafting, and continue with that. Then you can have a final look at Bl3, either after 1 year or all major content has dropped.
Y'know, the Maliwan-Atlas War on Promethea could've been the story. The way I see it, Rhys is the more comedic side of Handsome Jack and Katagawa is the more douchebaggy side of Handsome Jack. Say for example, Maliwan could have landed down on Pandora and started mopping bandits off the floor trying to look for the Vault Key. *Just a spitball*
People might have criticized it for being too similar to the plots of BL1 and 2. However, it also would fit the running theme of the franchise of large corporations not seeming to let up on Pandora until they suck it completely dry of both resources and its inhabitants
Jack didn't need to come back. The casino DLC was actually a perfect nod to him I think. I also didn't hate the twins as a concept. Evil sirens are a cool idea. But they were so annoying all the time and the writing was so bad that I quickly grew to hate any interaction with them.
The casino was totally Gearbox attempt to give the game some more positivity. Not to jab at fans, but so many ppl jerk off everytime Jack is on the screen. It was so easy to make that DLC any decent, just add something Jack related, easy scores. The casino was a way for Gearbox to bring Jack back, without doing a flashback of something Jack did in the past. I seriously hope we never see anything Jack related, ever again. So Gearbox can stop relying on him to save their butts and actually do something new.
agreed about the calypso twins. if you ask me they should've made them opposing characters, like perhaps troy would be the more calm collected one who's only going along with tyreen cause he needs her to live, and tyreen could've been the way she is. but they were just the same characters just with different model
Borderlands 2 had something that 3 does not: *charm* The game oozes charm and personality from every frostbitten crevasse. With 3, it was like Gearbox tried to replicate the charm instead of creating more of it.
I don't know if they tried to recreate jack-shit from BL2 or 1 At the 1 hour mark when I was doing a sidequest about "HAHAHHA XD SUCCC SUCCC SUCCC XD HAHHA SHIT EATING SKAG SUCC SUCC" I had lost my hope on the game. Even worse the whole main story was just the same recurgitated year old memes.
I haven't played Bl3. Do they not acknowledge Amara as a siren? Do they just call her "Vault-Hunter"? This is a genuine question, it would be stupid if they didn't, since the entire story revolves around sirens
Their dialogue is honestly top notch. They have some of the best lines in the entire game. Been playing through the dlc’s and Zane and Fl4k have been making me and my friend bust out laughing.
brev pad Zane really nails the fusion of professionalism and insanity Fl4k is funny because he tries and fails to fit in with people which makes his constant belittlement of people even better
@@mumblerogre2455 Exactly! They are written and performed so well by their voice actors and fit perfectly in the universe. In a game where everyone feels like a over the top or watered down versions of themselves, Zane and Fl4k are standouts for having consistency to their characters dialogue and performance. Both characters would fit seemlessly in Borderlands 2, Pre-Sequel, or Tales From The Borderlands in my personal opinion.
I had to go into the game files and remove the dialogue to play through the game again. No one EVER SHUTS UP in this game. There are more lines of dialogue than there are guns or bullets in this game and you spend about 80% of the story playing on your phone while you wait for the cutscenes or ECHO conversations to end so you can start playing again. I also hate the fact that your character has no impact on the story whatsoever. You are never once acknowledged or treated as if you exist at any point other than "hey you, go here and do this."
Once I got my first legendary at level 3, I literally never used a gun lower than orange for the rest of the playthrough. There was no reason to. I was getting more legendary's than I could feasibly use. I was getting two legendary's on average from every named enemy I killed. My level 60 character has over 200 orange weapons stored in the bank. What part of that is "legendary?"
@@geert574 the monarch, backburner, plaguebearer, hellwalker, and hellshock are some of the best weapons in the game. Obviously the flipper and lightshow are hilariously overpowered in most builds, but aren't necessary. The only 'necessary' dlc i feel is the handsome jack casino one, just so zane players can get a functional class mod. Seeing dead is/was their only viable class mod, but with the recent buffs to others recently there might be some that come close.
People found out there's some sort of arena in there, and in the launch trailer you could see the Vault Hunters fighting a giant Varkid in that same arena, perhaps a Raid Boss, but it was scraped from the game before launch. Fast forward a few months, they announced a new paid DLC is coming in october, with the new skills trees and a new game mode, and surprise, they teased that Raid Boss again, meaning they are either finally putting it in the game for free when the new DLC arrives (kinda like the Takedowns and Events), or he will be locked behind said paid DLC, witch is kinda bullshit in my opinion.
I feel it wasnt to replace two, its like... a filler episode. Just to show how things changed after Jack left the scene since there was so much behind him. And thats what i feel like this is, a filler arc to hold you out til the big finale
about that ending, i really liked what op said. Gearbox could have just left the game and return only to fix some stuff and give us paid DLC, but they keep giving us new hotfixes EVERY SINGLE WEEK since launch. I love to see the progress this game made in one year, it shows they care. There are many more things to fix in this game still, specially the endgame. They announced "new gamemodes", so maybe those will have a big impact. Im very hopeful about what is to come with Year 2!
I know what you’re describing is typically a good thing but in my personal experience I would’ve preferred if they just admitted they weren’t ready at release, took 6 months to fix the game, did it in a big patch or dlc that has actually been playtested and expertly balanced by the developers to be a good change to the game. The trial and error live service model can definitely be useful for quality of life issues and constantly updating the game does show the developers care and stuff. (Also probably financial lunacy to put your game on redevelopment hiatus for 6 months) Just for me personally it left me feeling like I was playing the beta for borderlands 3 and the “real” game AKA the finished version would just be released on next gen with all of the kinks sorted out. I really hope that I’m just speaking from a place of ignorance though as I’m definitely part of the fan base that has left the game. So it makes me really happy to hear that for those who have stuck with it it seems like the changes have been positive and worth it and you’re looking forward to the future of the game! Any tips on if it’s worth jumping back on now after DLC 4? Are things relatively stable? Should I wait for the “handsome collection” of BL3 on next gen?
@@jacklucas2123 about that "beta testing for the game", i understand completely. I have been playing since day 1 and i can safely say that this game was DEFINETIVELY NOT READY at launch. The first 9 or so months really felt like i paid full price for a beta, which is more insulting the more i think about it. To your question: it depends. I'll list both the positives and the negatives about the current state of the game. The bad stuff: the endgame is still kind of boring, and mayhem levels are kind of weird. By weird i mean that you can just skip all the way to Mayhem 10 as soon as you unlock Mayhem Mode, which is a weird design choice in opinion, because what is the incentive in doing endgame farming? Also mayhem modifiers can get very annoying at times. The game also doesn't run very well, specially on consoles. It has improved since lauch though. Now, the good things about the game: the farming had improved MASSIVELY. Pretty much every single unique enemy in the game has a dedicated drop, so you don't have to farm Graveward for every single drop you want anymore. No more rare spawns bullshit, they are all garanteed now. A lot of weapons have been massively buffed, which adds to the weapon and build diversity a lot. We finally have endgame content, being in the form of Maliwan/Guardian Takedowns, both giving the player new and interesting loot. Characters have been improved, specially their action skills, which now deal a lot more damage (specially Iron Bear, that thing is a beast) and action skills are no longer just used to proc annoints, they actually have an impact in the endgame. Speaking about them, we got new annoints to fit more builds, and a lot of useless annoints were removed. All the DLCs are really good too, all of them have a much better story compared to the base game, and all of them have extremely strong pieces of gear that are very useful and very fun at the endgame. Mayhem got revamped, no longer you have to deal with stupid modifiers that reduce your damage (for the most part). Also, Gearbox haven't nerfed a single weapon for like 8 months with the exception of 1 weapon that was bugged and was doing insane damage. Overall, the game is in a much better spot. Oh, and yesterday they announced new skill trees for EVERY SINGLE VAULT HUNTER, crossplay between all platforms, and everyone that owns BL3 for the current gen will get a free upgrade for the next gen, maintaining all their saves.
Red M&M thanks so much for taking the time to reply so in depth. I’m gonna give it a shot! I had pre ordered the game so have all the dlc, and I’m keen to see what they’ve added and changed. Seems like they really have been listening to players like you who have kept going so credit to you guys as the community for making our thoughts heard. At the end of the day from what you’ve described things are looking up, and im super happy to hear that as a fan of the series. Cheers :)
What ruined the experience of Bl3 for me was the fact that around the time DLC 1 launched, a bug deleted all my fast travel points after I already found all of them. I wasn't going to fully explore every single planet again just so I could fast travel again. I did play the dlcs however and I liked the 1st and 4th ones more than the middle 2
It's a fun game as long as you ignore story (thank God for the addition to skip cutscenes). Has the funniest gameplay loot of any game still (new games need to get on the looter shooter gameplay loop) and has AMAZING gunplay, but man is the endgame grind boring and the balance was God awful.
It is a fun game, but the story is an insult to borderlands fans, and even as a casual borderlands fan who isn't too invested, the dialogue and writing is complete cringe.
When you look at other "Games as a service" style games such as Anthem or Destiny. Anthem has become completely abandoned for the time being, at least until the devs decide to release their "Anthem 2.0" overhaul. While Destiny 2, I felt had similar issues at launch as BL3 did, but it too kept up with its player base and now serves as another great looter shooter. And that's the thing, we don't know how long Gearbox is going to keep adding on to BL3, which is also a double-edged sword. I would love it if they allowed for the time-limited events to be purchasable and permanent, that's one of my major complaints with the game currently. I, for one, never got the chance to play the cartels or the valentines events. So hopefully the future DLC's (as mentioned in the recent Gearbox showcase) will be more like the headhunter packs of BL2 and less like these limited-time events. I am excited for the 4th skill trees that will be added to each of the vault hunters, that should really allow for more build diversity and allow for annointments that are unusable on certain characters (like "on Action Skill End" annointments on Zane) to finally be viable. I hope that Year 2 for BL3 provides lots of fun and exciting content that fans, and assuredly the newcomers that will arrive with Next-Gen consoles, can play for years on end. I do feel like BL3 has come a long way since launch, while also having some of the best DLC's in the series to date, so here's hoping it can become on par with launch BL2 by the end of its content cycle!
The reason I left the game as a veteran bl player was the constant lvl cap increases. Refarming the same gear I spent several days acquiring is NOT FUN.
I remember at launch I had my FL4K build in endgame that could destroy gravemind in under 10 seconds and there wasn't anything else to do in the game. I haven't played it since then, and that was before the first dlc, now I'm playing through again and doing everything again, I trust like BL2 the DLC made the game what it is as a complete package.
BL3 in a nutshell: A shit story with more of the same BL gameplay but with a worse farming and loot routine... Its a good game and it did some pretty good stuff but goddamn was it disappointing, specially at first... I like the gameplay improvements like slide and climbing alongside some quality of life changes and additions but that was like the minimun for a new game, the story had some... uh, decent stuff but either doesnt make up for the garbage or it gets buttfucked by the garbage directions... like troy being the underdog and then still being the underdog when "his time came"... great character development lol
I feel like they should’ve dialed back the story a bit and used BL3 as a setup plotline for the Eridian War if they still are interested in doing that storyline. Or whatever the battle where we were gonna “need all the vault hunter you can get”. It think the Maliwan Vs Atlas would’ve been a good setup where we can bridge the characters from the telltale games to the mainline ones and by the end, bring most of the characters together from past Borderlands games by the end to finish it all off and then finally tease the big battle that’s going to happen in BL4. I think a Infinity War style setup game would’ve been a excellent move for them. Or at the very least if this is the story they really believed in they needed to trim out the fat of the story, take characters like Ava out so we can have more of the past character returning because the cast of Protags is already big enough and hire a better writer or a team of them who are all capable of handling a large cast of characters like this and giving them all natural dialogue that stays true to who they are while also being comedic and/or emotional like Borderlands has always excelled at until BL3 and satisfying character arcs that give us those moments that make the crowds cheer and can’t wait to see more. Also more Player to game interaction in the cutscenes would’ve gone a long way. That is what made BL2 resonate strongly as well plot wise.
I myself was a victim of the mayhempocolypse, it was totally unplayable and after returning recently it feels like a totally different game and much more enjoyable
Just like the pre-sequel I actually liked the story unlike others opinions. it was a nice way to refresh the borderlands series, the villains may not be as good as handsome jack but was a nice concept. The dlcs where pretty good aswell.
I feel like it would’ve been very interesting if the players relationship with the calypsos could’ve been dynamic. Like in bl2, you would get to know jack a lot through him just talking to the player and missions revolving around him. If bl3 was basically that time 2 with the calypso twins, the story could have played out with them turned against each other in a more impactful way to where you would end up picking a side. Either tyreen or Troy would be the antagonist depending on your decisions
I thought of this as well. Jack was a villain that continuously taunts you via Echo net just like the Calypsos do, but he also has lore within his reasons why he puts his plan into action. With Troy and Tyreen, all they ever do is taunt you with jokes (that are mostly cringey) and that's literally it. Getting to know Jack through character development or emotion is what made him such a great villain. I honestly wish there could've been more lore/character interactions with Typhoon Deleon and the Calypsos. Maybe that could've put more emotional development for the villains. Sadly he had to die as well.. :(
Loved bo3 never had any issues with mayhem or the level cap plus I don't care if people don't like it anymore. I like and I enjoy playing it sucks for people who don't feel the same their loss more borderlands for me.
@@BoyFromBlokM Yeah, and it gets really rough when you have to run away from an immune enemy about to kill you but then he just teleports to you anyways
Ava in borderlands 3 goes Ava was trained by Maya for a little bit, she loses Maya, exists on sanctuary, gets Maya's powers and gets sanctuary. She did nothing special, nothing right and Lilith just gave the little shit sanctuary
I actually loved playing BL3, mostly because of the gunplay, the music, the boss fights, and the visually stunning environments. I agree that the story was awful, though I'd argue that gameplay is far more important in this game (and should be in most other games) than story. Though, I feel like this game deserves a good story because of how many interesting characters there are and the fantastic world that Gearbox has created. I mean, the Tiny Tina DLC had some of the best writing in all of Borderlands, and when you can make something as good as that, then the audience is expecting that same level of quality. On a side note, in a game that IS heavily story-based and not so much gameplay-based such as The Last of Us 2, you're going to NEED a good story to engage with the player, which is why I prefer BL3 over TLoU2, since I found the story in TLoU2 to be a bit lackluster. Also, great video!
here's the thing though. borderlands is a game meant to have a HUGE amount of replayability, it's basically part of the looter shooter genre. borderlands 3's just awful story mode actively discourages multiple playthroughs of the game because most players don't want to have to sit through literal hours of characters talking at them about a story they've already heard AND don't want to hear again. even with the ability to skip cutscenes a player is still going to have to waste time "talking to lilith" and going through snoozefest main quests before they can get a second character up to end game content. borderlands games need a good story almost as much as it needs good gameplay, because without a story players can replay and enjoy, the game loses a lot of the reason to come back to it.
@@spazzmasterkoad Yeah that's true. I definitely was in no rush to replay the game as soon as it finished. I've played Borderlands 2 at least 5 or 6 times all the way through and each time I was thoroughly entertained. I can't say the same for BL3, though I'll definitely go back and play it at least 1 more time because I do have fun shooting stuff.
I totally agree with that comment. I still love this game and with my already 620+ hours spend, it’s going to be at least 800 till the end of the year. The thing is. If you played through with each of the 4 VH‘s there is no need to replay the story. Just replay the DLCs, the takedowns or farm to improve your build. You can spend much more time on that.
My least favourite thing about BL3 is what they did to the Maliwan weapons. I was a Maliwan elemental main and sadly the hold the trigger charge shooting just annoys me. Luckily Hyperion has shields on some of their weapons which made me actually like the manufacturer.
Upon replaying BL3 with the Redux mod, I think the main problem with the story (if you include the deleted Maya funeral in your head cannon, which I do) is just the length. So much of it feels too drawn out. GB really thought people were not going to want to play multiple characters and only go through the story twice.
Yeah the story length is the reason I 1. Only play 1 character mainly (Zane, occasionally I will play flak) and 2. Left the game after returning on a different platform (I played originally on ps4 but tried it out earlier this year on a Xbox series S and got to Eden 6 before dropping the game out of boredom, however I've returned again and finally beat the game and can finally enjoy the good parts of the game lol)
As someone who hasn’t played since the first dlc this is an awesome vid. I can’t bring myself to keep playing this game on console due to bugs, story, etc. with that’s said still loving BL2 so I have that to play
This is just a theory of mine thou, the vault that troy is in is the destroyers vault in bl2, just the surrounding would give you an idea, and what happened to the people on concordia , when lilith became one with alpis , just wondering.
I really wish this game had better ways to respawn bosses or a stay as a group feature. Farming with friends is nearly impossible because after 1 kill of a boss thats it there is nothing else which really sucks bc multiplayer is fun
I had a lot problems with my Ps4, playing BL3 or MW even smaller games. My Ps broke always the data and game files from BL3, the game always crashed in a few minutes. After all this pain i've sold my ps4 pro, a few weeks later I bought myself the first version in the ps4 francise. And i'm being honest, It does not make fun to play BL3 anymore and the commands you give from your controller to the game are also delayed. I'm looking forward to play with the Ps5 and I hope it will now give me the enjoyment back I had in the first days playing BL3.
Idk something about them not adding any new cosmetics in the vending machine since launch date don’t sit well with me. But I do agree with everything said here
Wonderful history review. Very fair, Herodotus would be proud. I think the mayhem mess was an attempt to compete with the Fortnite and multi player games that hook players for months. I would like your next video to look at the future, here are some ideas....borderlands 3 had a lot of new things....capture what worked from the loot machine, great gun play, etc. I would in a year or two make an expansion pack for this game with some of these.....NPCS that travel with you that you can only equip purple or less items with (thus bringing some relevance to those items again). I would also in the expansion play around with cars....new builds for them, new designs, races that lead to money, eridium and possibly pearlescent weapons. The story....elaborate on the next guardian the time traveler entity....and what it intends to do about the vault hunters and the destroyer (the war that the Watcher predicted is coming in BD 4). And BD 4 could have us choosing from not only 4 new characters but all the vault hunters from the series (time travel), and with NPCs give us a real war of companies, guardians and a new entity that would set up a new type of borderlands with fresh concepts and ideas leading to a Borderlands X1 or something. The players want a big event...give it to them and close the book on this great saga for a new saga that anchors itself on a series that spans 4 games and years of fun and creativity. Borderlands 1 was a rooted in fun and imagination...and the basic concept works. Remember that and build on it....and guess what, the players remember too. Players do get mad and move to other games......but they can be forgiving too..if you WOW them....dazzle them.....and remind them why this series still captures the fun factor.
Why not a build your weapon, mode where you have to use purple or less parts to create your own weapon. And once you have it, you need to eliminate a set number of bosses and foes to make it legendary.
Can we all agree sanctuary 3 have the best ambient music and the music in bl3 is awesome compare to 1 2 and presequel? Seriously the main menu theme, sanctuary 3 theme are much better than the others borderlands main menu and sanctuary theme they nail with the music in this game 👌
I really appreciate this video. Most content creators seem to pretend all is fine with this game while it still needs work, and already lost too much time and playerbase.
Ive loved all the BL games, yes 2 is the best, but 3 is good in its own right. I play 3 very regularly, my last 2 games sessions, all i played was BL3. But i do take breaks from it, while I play other games. BL3 has been supported and tweaked very well indeed, it puts other games and their devs to shame! Ive got moze to 65, flakk at 59, zane at 58, and amara is bringing up the rear at 33! But iam getting there, just enjoy playing with moze so much!!
I think my major problem with BL3's story was that the main chacters have 0 appearance in any of the major story cut scenes so it felt like the chavtwr you whwre playing as where not as important to the story as the supporting characters. Like you where a errand boy for more impatant people. I loved the game play and not just the gun play the sound design was great, The changes to the wepon companies was cool, and the different planets is fun. I'm a casual player tho I'm probably having more fun the the hard core players that farm all the time tho.
I hate how accurately you describe how i felt after playing it. I admit that i have not touched BL3 since week after launch seeing as the level cap increases were not coming soon or even at launch.
I will never play bl3, I spent a year waiting for it to come out, then Randy Pitchford did Claptrap dirty and then I heard it was going to be a epic games exclusive, THEN I HEAR MAYA DIES and I was like "Nope, I'll never pick up this game." I'm sure the gameplay is good but story is important too.
for me the biggest joykiller was the endgame loot ... you get like 20 legendaries per hour at higher mayhem but 90% of them are shit or just does not do anything special
This might be unpopular of me, but, I don't actually dislike the Calypso twins. Sure, the story isn't amazingly written well, and there's a couple bad story decisions. (Maya's Death being the obvious example.) If Maya's death was later, (the Troy Boss Fight for example) I might not actually mind it. Also, Ava could have definitely been left out of main story importance, hundred percent agree on that front.
I couldn't force myself to play after playing it at launch. Tina's game needs to be ALOT better. Bl3 is a good example of corporate pushing out a product that has no real direaction.
I got BL3 at launch with my wife and we played through it entirely and fuckin HATED the story. After we beat it once, my wife put it down and never played again, but I kept playing by myself, farming the Graveward for HOURS every day trying to get a better Lyuda so I could go into NG+. Then when they were nerfing all the fun guns, they also nerfed my Lyuda, so I said fuck em, I'm done and hadn't touched the game again until just earlier last week. It's fun enough still, as long as I ignore the cutscenes. I still hate Ava with every bone in my body.
You say free content as if that's abnormal for the series and not the standard they set in the last game. You don't get points for not monetizing what was previously free. That's not showing how much they care, it's meeting standards they previously set as a studio.
I was heartbroken. I just couldn't get into it. I looked forward to it so much and after playing for six hours I just couldn't get into it. Uninstalled
Story for BL3 5/10 now gameplay is a 8/10 very few things that I feel felt out of date but hey I'm also one of the ones who believe the DLC saved BL3 with replayability
I hated mayhem mode, it made my Moze build that was popping off on all cylinders seems weak as hell... but that wasn't even the worst part about it because every time some sort of build that was devised by the community to survive and thrive in the and game, gearbox would Nerf said build straight into the fucking ground.
My biggest annoyance with this game is the BS invincible armor almost every boss gets. This is abused throughout the whole game and I've never seen it used as badly like in this game.
Sadly for me the sluggish perfomance is what killed the game for me,I can't afford a pc right now but I'll probably jump back in one day when I get one
I think they should've given more meaning to low tier weapons. Before launch I was hoping legendaries were more you know... Legendary, and low tier weapons would be more needed.
I think mayhem does add some need challenge with the modifiers kinda it's basically 4 mod at 10 and usually 2 are pretty interesting that mix it up and the last 2 are usually so annoying to deal with that it's almost enough just to not turn them on, I just wish eridium drops and xp wasn't basically dog shit without the modifiers and some weapons just cant drop unless you're on mayhem 6+ kinda infuriating
Beat bl3, beat it again, beat it a third time and 100% it, beat and 100% all the dlcs, reset the missions and just got done beating the main story AGAIN and am currently going through the dlcs again. I dont understand peoples issue with the game at all. It is not drastically different from bl2, but I enjoy borderlands and just having more of it with upgrades and updates here and there is perfectly fine with me. Except the addition of ava, terrible choice.
i bought the game and beat it 5 days later and did some extra stuff for a few weeks and looked forward to playing it after work everyday and stopped playing the game when everything was broken constantly. havent gone back since and it feels terrible because i played the absolute shit out of the other games.
Yknow how Marcus is the one who tells the story? An easy way to retcon the story of this game would just be for the next game to start with someone calling bullshit on his story.
I don't remember which video the comment was from, but someone pitched the idea of BL3's story having been made up by the children that Marcus usually tells the stories because he'd gotten drunk and passed out.
GreenDinoRanger omg yes, and then have them actually go on with the war that they foreshadowed pretty heavily on pre-sequel and tales from the borderlands
It needs a complete rewrite or retcon at this point. I had an idea of how to get Maya back and include everyone that was neglected but... there's SO much that needs to be addressed and/or corrected that it's nigh-on impossible to not fuck anything else up. Especially with what they did with Siren lore
..am i the only one who didn't think the story is as insanely bad as everyone thinks it is? I played through the story mode start to finish and I really don't know what's making everyone shit their pants over it
@@HolyPetRel My opinion: mediocre drawn out story, ruined by bland/irritating chracters. -Most of the old vault hunters and B-team (=pretty much all of the interesting chracters, the main strength of the series) were swept under a rug and replaced by inferior unfunny chracters. -The utilized old vault hunters were given Disney Star Wars-ish treatment. -The main villains were unfunny, uncharismatic, irritating and not menacing at all. They also lacked any kind of attitude change like Jack after Where angels fear the tread-mission in BL2. -The story pretty much disregarded the stuff teased in previous BL games: "war is coming" and origin of the sirens.
Opposite for me, I was burned out after previous titles and wasn't sure that I would have much fun w BL3. Damn was I wrong. BL3 is the title i have enjoyed and played the most. Still having fun with it.
One of the biggest mistakes from bl3 is AVA. Like honestly i would prefer pickle who would at least make me chuckle at times compared to Ava who is just annoying and cringey beyond comprehension and of course was the reason Maya died.
yeah she is annoying but i think people "overhate" her. Gearbox is probably not going to kill a child in one of their games, but at least she didnt made an appearance in any of the DLC, so, thanks.
@BlastinNick people take the whole Maya thing a little too seriously. I personally don't understand the argument, i think Maya would've died there with or without Ava. But i agree with you.
@BlastinNick Problem is that she is enabled by everyone else (Lilith). Her character would be forgivable if she learned humility by the end of the story, but that wasn't the case. That and the mistreatment of former vault hunters (Sal and Axton are completely absent)
Ava wouldn't been bad if she wasn't forced into a bigger role right away. I mean, had her built up and put her into the bigger roles in future projects. I just hate Ava because of the way they killed Maya just to force Ava onto the fans instead of just allowing Maya stay alive and Ava remain the sidekick to build up character.
I'm going to be honest, but I do feel that in some way, the story between Atlas and Maliwan was meant to be the main story, but someone higher up came in and saw what was popular, streamers, so had the entire story reworked around that and the Atlas-Maliwan war is now sideshow to what would've been the main story. I'd honestly love either one giant $50 DLC or a whole new game, that redcons BL3's story and focuses it on the Atlas-Maliwan. Since it has both a better villain and story.
I'm not sure but I heard that they had planned to make jack come back in bl3 but when they heard that the fans didn't wan't jack to come back, they scrapped up everything.
@@Kantech_exe I would be fine with Jack returning but add some kind of twist to his return like he foreseen his own death in pre sequels And started hiding out and went completely insane being afraid the vault hunters are gonna kill him and instead of killing him just re descover him and take him prisoner and make a plot so he would have a triall on sanctuary after his capture
Also Sanctuary should have a fast travel point that takes you to the bridge as well. All the times you have to stop what you're doing just to talk to lillith is just annoying.
playing the story for the first time HURT, and that’s why so many people were unhappy. it’s like fallout four compared to new vegas. we didn’t get more iconic borderlands, but the gameplay is better
@Mick Salo yup. even playing bl2 over and over again it was still a good time, as much as I hate going to the dust over and over again it still isn't so much of a chore
Thing is that after I played bl3 I couldn't go back to bl2 cause the gameplay is so much more better like the guns feel way better the movement is way better and personally I have 1k hours on bl2 and i love the game its just I actually like bl3 a lot more than bl2 (my opinion, yours can be different :)
@@taintedascetic while i agree on the gameplay, for me it just made me uninstall all versions borderlands, and i have not touched it since the story was so shit to trudge throu, that i could not even get motivated to play, but i wanted the gameplay of 3, so if i tried 2, the gameplay was less, and i just uninstalled bouth.
@@gampie13 that’s honestly just stupid lol, I fully agree that the gameplay is amazing but man that doesn’t make any sense bl2 is still incredible and has amazing gameplay
@@jimhalpert3409 not realy, the gameplay of 3 (thank god slag is finaly gonne), is so smooth compared to 2, it is a big improvement, but the story and characters are utter trash, so when you have felt the gameplay of 3, going back to 2 feels like a slog, but the story and characters of 2 is good, but due to the imbalance, and that I notice it, i rather just not play any of them
I still find it stupid how hector was in a tiny dlc released 7 years into BL2s life cycle and still managed to be a villain miles better than the Calypso Twins
Great voice actor but the dlc was over before it even started, I wish we could've gotten more from him, he had good motives, his story was great and he wasn't a cringe inducing streaming
The one thing that they will never be able to fix in this game that no patching or work will fix is the shitty main story and the lackluster story in the krieg dlc. The abandonment of past vault hunters and the lack of player character interactions with the world voice wise like in the presequel.
Fuck yes, I replayed borderlands 2 an unhealthy amount of times because the game was fun and the story was amazing. I couldn’t even max out every character for 3, not because the gameplay was bad, but because the story was so shitty and cringey that playing through it felt more like a chore than a pleasure.
As much as i loved Pre Sequel i doubt people would like another Pre Sequel (i mean they already hated the first one). Especially because the Calypsos are just horrible even with more backstory.
Loot system is optimal for the marketing theyre going for. Guys its 2020 a bnk3r situation does not cut for the genre What you personally want may not be ideal for them or for us
My Favorite things in BL3 you didn't mention: Weapons brands had a gimmick to them. Fast travels, especially to Vehicles. Integration to streamers. Ice element, Beam attachments Ground slam return from TPS. Guardian Ranks additions. Multiplayer modes Lvl syncing capabilities. Side objectives in the world. New Vehicle system.
"Side objectives" you mean the thing that existed in bl1. Also weapon gimmicks were in bl2. You dont praise something that was universally regarded as good for leaving it in.
@@enjoshi-godrez8775 There's more side objectives with better rewards in Bl3 though. The weapons gimmicks in Bl3 are little more pronounced and impact the entire gun for almost every manufacturer. They took the systems they had already and improved them. They did that for almost every aspect of Bl3 all the core mechanics of the game are the same and improved slightly. They just really mis-stepped with how their loot pools and balancing worked. Even now It's sort of rough but fuck BL3 is my favorite borderlands game now. Especially because of the level syncing I can play with my friends of any level and not just stomp everything as long as I'm not using some ridiculous OP gun. At first Bl3 was sort of a dissapointment but picking it back up again recently it is really more enjoyable. I felt the same way about bl2 actually. I thought they made the game way worse when bl2 released I bought it the day it came out and I didn't play it again for a few months then tried it again and loved it.
borderlands 1 felt more hardcore nitty gritty. post apocalytic wasteland kind of westerny. Borderlands 2 was a masterpiece of a game. variety of environents and enemies also 6 total playable vault hunters. lots of personality in npc and story bl3 wasnt the same goodness as previous installmenta
Borderlands 1 had meh story and writing Borderlands 2 had good story and writing Borderlands 3 actively ruined characters from previous games and had very bad story and writing
My issue with the game is how awful the main story is. For me, it lost much steam and potential to be great after Maya's death. I really enjoyed the Atlas vs Maliwan arc, and basically everything leading up to the first vault, but then all the potential left. Katigawa was intresting, but after the atlas vs Maliwan arc, You're stuck with these Stupid obnoxious twins ! Plus the funeral for Maya's death was a joke, Ava is more hate-able then the actual main antagonist. She treats the leader like crap, then inherits everything, including the ship! The DLCs are fun, but short. Krieg's and the Handsome Jack DLCs are easily my favorites. The Wedding could of been great if they had more characters returning. Zero, Axton, Salvador, B team, and The other former members of the crimson raiders should of been there for the wedding as well, it would of been more impactful and a better experience imo. Ghenna had the best weapons add on hands down, but the least interesting story imo
to me it was strange to only have axton and salvador return through some dlc boss raid, since both zer0 and maya (gaige later and with krieg getting his own dlc) was allowed to make a proper apperance. hammerlock is such a staple to the borderlands game and for people not to show up to the most important day of his life? dang.
Least memorable DLC for me was hammerlocks, I did not give a fuck about him getting married or tentacle shit. The locations were cool and gaige coming back was amazing but fuck that boring ass story. Should’ve brought scarlet back.
I never minded buying SDUs with eridium. The loot from crazy Earl's machine is worse than world drops anyway, and the only other purchasable items are cosmetic.
At least now the gun gun can shoot legendaries with eridium, so there's a use for it besides slots, and being 250 eridium per shot means it's not necessarily going to shower you with OP gear or be game-breaking.
what i would love to see added to BL3 is some kind of Adventure mode (much like Diablo) when you beat the story at least once you can start right at the post game with a brand new character and not redo the whole story. I feel that would be a MASSIVE improvement to the game, and also have TVHM be something you turn on and not do the whole story again.
Idk tvhm and uvhm was the reason why i enjoyed the game. It made sense and acted like a new game plus to continue your character plus on borderlands 2 specifically you ended up learning a lot by being forced into going through multiple playthroughs. Op levels you had to run something 8 times and was fair challenge whereas mayhem you instantly got bored of because you could just go turn it on/off, that killed mayhem for me because the op levels was the grind back in da day.
Maybe plan where you would want Borderlands to go with like DLC and changes
Could we get some love for Tales from The Borderlands? That would be good.
Aye
The Maliwan-Atlas war was the best part of the game, story-wise, IMO.
@@Username_834 It was a good idea for the main story and in itself, a missed opportunity
Yes. Katagawa and Aurelia were amazing
Wowwww like how did you phase lock the entire moooooooooon
I literally ended up skipping every single cutscene in the game. Couldn’t be arsed to waste the time that I could be shooting
This whole series has been filled with garbage writing
agreed about the calypso twins. if you ask me they should've made them opposing characters, like perhaps troy would be the more calm collected one who's only going along with tyreen cause he needs her to live, and tyreen could've been the way she is. but they were just the same characters just with different model
bragging about it selling 5 mill copies 5 days after release isn't a flex for BL3 its a flex for BL2.
Borderlands 2 had something that 3 does not: *charm*
The game oozes charm and personality from every frostbitten crevasse. With 3, it was like Gearbox tried to replicate the charm instead of creating more of it.
Exactly man and the characters and locations were j not as memorable
TRUE! borderland 3 feels artificial
I don't know if they tried to recreate jack-shit from BL2 or 1
At the 1 hour mark when I was doing a sidequest about "HAHAHHA XD SUCCC SUCCC SUCCC XD HAHHA SHIT EATING SKAG SUCC SUCC" I had lost my hope on the game.
Even worse the whole main story was just the same recurgitated year old memes.
@the super bros gameplay wise, 3 is the best, but it falls flat on its face with every other aspect, mainly the writing
Classic attempt to recreate lightning in a bottle without understanding what made it so great in the first place.
For it it's faults, I liked that in the presequel the game acknowledged the vault hunter you chose
That was a nice touch.
Yeah, in BL 3 you are either "Vault Hunter, Killer or Sup", actually the Vault Hunters themselves are the only ones who use thier names sometimes lol.
I had much more fun with The Pre-Sequel than with 3.
I loved the pre sequel hunters cause of that. So much personality. Its a shame they did Aurelia dirty considering her character arc in that game
I haven't played Bl3. Do they not acknowledge Amara as a siren? Do they just call her "Vault-Hunter"?
This is a genuine question, it would be stupid if they didn't, since the entire story revolves around sirens
I wish there was an option to turn off everyone’s voice accept Zane and Fl4k
Yeah there should be a separate volume slider for Player Dialogue
Their dialogue is honestly top notch. They have some of the best lines in the entire game. Been playing through the dlc’s and Zane and Fl4k have been making me and my friend bust out laughing.
brev pad
Zane really nails the fusion of professionalism and insanity
Fl4k is funny because he tries and fails to fit in with people which makes his constant belittlement of people even better
Best boys right there
@@mumblerogre2455 Exactly!
I feel like there is too many legendaries, with not enough being usable.
Legendaries don’t even feel hard to get no point to farm. I get them all the time
Once I got my first legendary at level 3, I literally never used a gun lower than orange for the rest of the playthrough. There was no reason to. I was getting more legendary's than I could feasibly use. I was getting two legendary's on average from every named enemy I killed. My level 60 character has over 200 orange weapons stored in the bank.
What part of that is "legendary?"
Just bin the base game legendaries it's all about paid dlc guns no wonder
They're too common....
Common Legendaries.
Something doesn't stick with that.
I think it’s funny how “the door” in ascension bluff was a big mystery and now after the final DLC nothing has been done with it...
1: it opened with the current dlc. 2: how did you know that phyco krieg was the last dlc? Because it isnt
Cheers :)
@@jacklucas2123 cheers indeed my friend. Borderlands 3 is only going to get better from here, i believe. I'm happy to see you returning to the game!
And they said gearbox didn't care...
First person I've seen say that dlc 3 wasn't the best.
Say what you want, but I still enjoy playing this game from time to time.
I wish you can reroll annoints at the cost of eridium. Then you would be farming the gun for parts/prefixes and not the annoint itself.
Your wish was granted!
My only issue is how the game ran!
I played plenty of unreal engine games and they never gave me any lag like BL3.
The menu scrolling was horrendous
This game series is just a testament to how bad men can make good art only for so long before their nature starts to harm their art.
I remember people evaluating how effective their build was by how fast they could kill Graveward.
He was *THAT* easy to farm.
Leaving BL3 after 9 months then coming back to it right now feels so refreshing knowing i have so much content and improvements to look forward to.
Is it also worth noting the discord created with the 6 month exclusivity?
Im curious to see how the Steam release in March would've changed sales.
BL3 in a nutshell:
A shit story with more of the same BL gameplay but with a worse farming and loot routine...
I really don't like how this Epic guy downplays the entire thing. This game was awful. 0 balancing, 0 optimization.
You didnt even mention the nerfing spree
You really are a nice person
Just like the pre-sequel I actually liked the story unlike others opinions. it was a nice way to refresh the borderlands series, the villains may not be as good as handsome jack but was a nice concept. The dlcs where pretty good aswell.
i never finished the game fully, but now this video is making me want to give it another shot
I probably would still be playing if they hadn’t nerfed so many items....
Funny you say that because as of recently they've been buffing everything
Someone’s still butt hurt about the Lyuda nerf a from last year
The almighty potato the Lyuda got buffed and is really good now, not Tier one, but really not bad.
@@dr.ugly.376 its just that it takes hours to get the perfect rolls just for a gun to become useless
They nerfed things so the dlc stuff is more op to sell
Anointed enemies were an issue for lots of people, giving non-bosses immunity phases and teleportation mechanics was a terrible idea.
@@BoyFromBlokM Yeah, and it gets really rough when you have to run away from an immune enemy about to kill you but then he just teleports to you anyways
Also great job on the video! I like the way you assesed everything and laid it out to explain.
I only started BL3 when it went to Steam, by then most issues were fixed. It become my most played game on Steam (about 1000 hours).
The only problem i really have with bl3 is all the waiting for people to finish talking
Deezer is your friend
Left the game after returning on a different platform (I played originally on ps4 but tried it out earlier this year on a Xbox series S and got to Eden 6 before dropping the game out of boredom, however I've returned again and finally beat the game and can finally enjoy the good parts of the game lol)
i think its a great idea for ava to be the final boss just so it can release some stress whenever i want to farm her
Didn't know that many players had the "got bored of farming graveward" problem aswell
The fact that they didnt add effervescent with the last dlc make NO FUCKING SENSE it would have played in so well
As someone who hasn’t played since the first dlc this is an awesome vid.
3:55 im sorry, typhon who?
I knew someone would say something
EpicNNG lol I’m sorry man you say it how u wanna
@@imsellingmyhairline7422 I'll say it however you like if it means I get a piece of that hairline
I really wish this game had better ways to respawn bosses or a stay as a group feature. Farming with friends is nearly impossible because after 1 kill of a boss thats it there is nothing else which really sucks bc multiplayer is fun
I love every single video you put out, you really care about your channel and put tons of effort in them keep on going and don’t put oil in your pasta
Thank you! Will do!
BL3s main story was like 3 storylines pushed together and it didn't end too well
Ive loved all the BL games, yes 2 is the best, but 3 is good in its own right.
Zane: zer0 moze: Salvador amara: maya fl4k: axton borderlands owner has 0 ideas
I will never play bl3, I spent a year waiting for it to come out, then Randy Pitchford did Claptrap dirty and then I heard it was going to be a epic games exclusive, THEN I HEAR MAYA DIES and I was like "Nope, I'll never pick up this game." I'm sure the gameplay is good but story is important too.
for me the biggest joykiller was the endgame loot ... you get like 20 legendaries per hour at higher mayhem but 90% of them are shit or just does not do anything special
It always takes me awhile recall the names of the Calypso's anytime they come up in conversations.
14:36 exactly why i haven't replayed 3 that much
Borderlands 1 ended with "No Heaven"....
Borderlands 3 ended with "Girl on Fire"...
Need I say more?
I may have missed it but for a long time I didn't know about the mailing system cause I thought it was online only.
It’s meant to pad out game time
Sounds like i did the right thing by waiting til the game and all the dlc's were deeply discounted before buying.
Sadly for me the sluggish perfomance is what killed the game for me,I can't afford a pc right now but I'll probably jump back in one day when I get one
Till all are one...
this was my first ever borderland and i liked it tbh didnt care it was long
I think they should've given more meaning to low tier weapons.
I think u should have added the "revive" of bl3. Cuz mayhem was never better than now and also 4 awesome dlcs and so
i bought the game and beat it 5 days later and did some extra stuff for a few weeks and looked forward to playing it after work everyday and stopped playing the game when everything was broken constantly. havent gone back since and it feels terrible because i played the absolute shit out of the other games.
When captain traunt was more memorable than the main baddies
TROOOW-OUNT
Oppressor is my actual profession!
TRAUNT APPROVES OF THIS
Ah yes the BL3 idea of let's yell everything because that's funny. BLOOOOOD FEUD!!
@@kaliss7192 id prefer that to the actual main baddies
Yknow how Marcus is the one who tells the story? An easy way to retcon the story of this game would just be for the next game to start with someone calling bullshit on his story.
I don't remember which video the comment was from, but someone pitched the idea of BL3's story having been made up by the children that Marcus usually tells the stories because he'd gotten drunk and passed out.
@@GreenDinoRanger That would be awesome.
GreenDinoRanger omg yes, and then have them actually go on with the war that they foreshadowed pretty heavily on pre-sequel and tales from the borderlands
It would also explain why Ava was so Ava and made a leader
Don't do that... Don't give me hope.
The game needs 4 more dlc's centered on left out vault hunters, so we can all forget the main plot.
Favk21 also the b team
It needs a complete rewrite or retcon at this point. I had an idea of how to get Maya back and include everyone that was neglected but... there's SO much that needs to be addressed and/or corrected that it's nigh-on impossible to not fuck anything else up. Especially with what they did with Siren lore
They need 4 more dlcs to make up for how short the existing 4 are and what a rip off it is given that they charged us for it.
..am i the only one who didn't think the story is as insanely bad as everyone thinks it is?
BL3, the game I looked forward to the most and played the least.
Dayum, i feel ya
I am still playing bl3
Felt that
Opposite for me, I was burned out after previous titles and wasn't sure that I would have much fun w BL3.
Damn was I wrong.
BL3 is the title i have enjoyed and played the most.
Still having fun with it.
Yeh not quite borderlands 2
One of the biggest mistakes from bl3 is AVA. Like honestly i would prefer pickle who would at least make me chuckle at times compared to Ava who is just annoying and cringey beyond comprehension and of course was the reason Maya died.
Look at me Maya, I'M PICKLE AVA!
yeah she is annoying but i think people "overhate" her.
They should make dlc that has multiple storylines effected by our choices
@@Kantech_exe I would be fine with Jack returning but add some kind of twist to his return like he foreseen his own death in pre sequels
And started hiding out and went completely insane being afraid the vault hunters are gonna kill him and instead of killing him just re descover him and take him prisoner and make a plot so he would have a triall on sanctuary after his capture
Could be a future dlc I would like it
ً jack needs to stay dead and gearbox needs to understand how to move on from dragging him through the mud

a 10% of it is screaming stuff
the remaining 1% is tina

Also Sanctuary should have a fast travel point that takes you to the bridge as well. All the times you have to stop what you're doing just to talk to lillith is just annoying.
I'd rather not have to speak with her, just skip this objective and progress the way it should be.

TRUEEEE
playing the story for the first time HURT, and that’s why so many people were unhappy. it’s like fallout four compared to new vegas. we didn’t get more iconic borderlands, but the gameplay is better
Honestly this game needs a pre sequel type game, keep the gun play and the engine and just make a new game with a better story and loot system
I'm thinking the same thing here, I'm hoping by the end of year 2/3 for BL3 a Pre-Sequel type needs to be released.
Borderlands: The Pre-Threequel
Fuck yes, I replayed borderlands 2 an unhealthy amount of times because the game was fun and the story was amazing. I couldn’t even max out every character for 3, not because the gameplay was bad, but because the story was so shitty and cringey that playing through it felt more like a chore than a pleasure.
As much as i loved Pre Sequel i doubt people would like another Pre Sequel (i mean they already hated the first one). Especially because the Calypsos are just horrible even with more backstory.
Loot system is optimal for the marketing theyre going for. Guys its 2020 a bnk3r situation does not cut for the genre
What you personally want may not be ideal for them or for us
My Favorite things in BL3 you didn't mention:
Weapons brands had a gimmick to them.
Fast travels, especially to Vehicles.
Integration to streamers.
Ice element, Beam attachments Ground slam return from TPS.
Guardian Ranks additions.
Multiplayer modes
Lvl syncing capabilities.
Side objectives in the world.
New Vehicle system.
"Side objectives" you mean the thing that existed in bl1. Also weapon gimmicks were in bl2. You dont praise something that was universally regarded as good for leaving it in.
@@enjoshi-godrez8775 No, the Notorious Monster hunts, Part hunting for Clap Trap and Ellie. Propaganda Towers, and the others in the DLC.
Borderlands 2 was a masterpiece of a game. variety of environents and enemies also 6 total playable vault hunters. lots of personality in npc and story
bl3 wasnt the same goodness as previous installmenta
Borderlands 1 had meh story and writing
Borderlands 2 had good story and writing
Borderlands 3 actively ruined characters from previous games and had very bad story and writing
Loved all your previous videos on the borderlands series, definitely deserve way more subscribers
Thanks a ton!
