Yeah, I was surprised that Aladdin started out making mantles for kerosene lamps. I wonder what made the company venture down licensed lunchboxes. One thing I did not mention is that the company started new subusidiaries in other industires, such as radios, phonographs and even chemicals. But they all failed.
Very cool collection of lunchboxes, Dave! Uber-cool Marvel lunchbox, man! Fireball XL5 very nice. The fact that you also have the thermoses to go with them is incredible!👀Very nice Super Friends with my man The Flash right there! I remember wanting the Marvel heroes lunchbox as a kid. Fond memories indeed! Can't wait to see part 2!! Great video, Dave!
Wow! I didntt think I would learn so much about the history of vintage lunchboxes in your intro. I've always wondered where the name Aladdin name came from. I just imagine it had something to do with getting your wishes by opening your lunchbox. I would never had made the link with lamps. * * * Not surprised Hopalong Cassidy was the first of these lunchboxes that was marketed. Hoppy was the king of merchandising! * * * My favorite is the Roy Rogers one of course! It looks brand new! So gorgeous! Close second is the Fireball XL-5 one! Love those Gerry Anderson tv shows so much as a kid. I think I had a Captain Scarlet (another great Gerry Anderson tv series) lunchbox when I was in kindergarden. Those lunchboxes were very fragile, especially the thermos, and I don't remember having any survive more than a couple of months in my clumsy boy hands. So my mom got tired pretty quickly of wasting money on these for me. I ended up bringing my lunch in a plastic bag the rest of my school years. Looking forward to part 2!
It's funny because as a young boy I recall having a metal lunch box, but I have no recollection of the subject matter of the box. My guess would be either some kind of western related box or a Saturday morning cartoon box, like the Flintstones. But pretty early on my Mom moved to the paper lunch bags.
That was a great video. Loved all the boxes. Very cool.
Great video! I love the old lunchboxes! The only vintage lunchbox I have is a 1965 Beatles.
The details on those lunch boxes are superb! Can't wait for Part 2! Neat history on Aladdin!

Nice! As always, your collection takes everyone else's to lunch!
