Seok Jong….you have a magnificent voice. I saw you sing Calaf twice last season. I hear the same strain in this clip that the others are hearing. If this strain is from a recent illness, please take care of yourself. However I too hear the beginnings of what sounds like a wobble. You have sung a ton of Calaf around the globe in the last few years and if inside your body you feel the voice is tiring then listen to it and lighten up your roles.
Very worrying technique indeed. He gets away with it because of the desperate passion of the monologue, however audiably there are strains, and sighs which are a result of the immense pressure his vocal folds are under rather than anything to do with Cavaradossi's plight. Most concerningly he cracks on the 'mai' of Mai tanto le vita, indicating that though he got the big note just before, he's done himself a tenor injury. He is obviously a talented artist and I hope those with more experience can direct his career appropriately
Simple - that happens when you try to open the G. You can’t. Especially that late in the opera when you’ve sung 2 acts already. That said, I think Baek is a great singer who just got a bit ambitious in this moment
I was very impressed with his Calaf last year - but worried when he said in an interview that he had trained himself to take on star tenor roles, as prior to 2020 he considered himself a baritone. I’m not a professional singer - but it sounds like he has pushed himself way too far. The vibrato is indeed a wobble. The breath control is shaky. I’m sure this is from a rehearsal but the timing with the conductor/orchestra is off putting. Perhaps that last part can be corrected with piano rehearsals- but his voice is a shadow of what I remember from last year. I think he needs to get back to baritone roles before it’s too late. I’m sure the tenor roles pay more, but I can’t imagine what his voice will be like in another year if he continues on this path. Such a shame. He sounded so humble and pleasant in his interview. I truly hope the best for him and that I am very wrong in my amateur opinion. Such promise.
Baek, I think, was vocally more comfortable with the role of Prince Calaf in Turandot. I saw the final dress rehearsal in person, and I thought it was much better than this.
Bravo maestro Baek!!!
Bravissimo..❤
Fantastic. Can’t wait to see it in cinemas.
Parabéns à Coréia do Sul que está despontando com uma grande quantidade de talentos no canto lírico!
bravo!👏👏👏

BRAVO! VERY NICE AND WONDERFUL!! 🙏♥️🌹🌹🌹 CONGRATULATIONS! MAESTRO!! HAPPY AUTUMN! FROM ROMÂNIA! 🙏♥️🕊️😘🌹🌹🌹🎀💥
Mucho vibrato, debe trabajar en eso. Su vozvale ese sacrificio.
Heard Freddie di Tomaso today in a simulcast, same production. It was markedly superior singing to what is heard here.

With this technique he won't have a long career.
He also throws his hands back and is obviously emoting there
@@somerandomguy84Corelli opened the G before, what are u talking about?!

??? How are you ever going to be able to sing Calaf if you can't sing Cavaradossi??
If anyone is disperato right now, it's Puccini. What they do to his operas is a massive despair!
0:31 why doesn't he sing togther with the orchestra? He needs more rehearsals.
Nope.
This is not worthy of the met...
Wieder nur BRÜHLEN😢😢😢😢😢 NICHT SINGEN😮😮😮😮
Do you mean German "tenor without high notes" Jonas Kaufmann ?
Bad technique. Bad Performance.
