One thing I never see mentioned is the F hotkey (cancel). This makes the soldiers stop if there's enemy contact and start shooting immediately. This avoids the jank of clicking the enemy, which can be unreliable.
This channel is absolute gem. Clear, easy to understand tips/tutorials. I've got almost 2k hours into MoW/CtA and I still learned a thing or two. I've had GoH installed for a while now, but I've been playing thru a backlog of old shooters I've been meaning to play for years. Forget the shooters, I'm ready to get back into GoH!
few extra tips to add: 1. double right click to move fast: is your soldier in a sticky situation and need to move but they keep stopping to shoot? or you just need the to move fast in general? double right click to where you need them to move and they will run and ignore the enemy however you soldier is easily spotted while running so don't go running around when trying to flank the will see you coming also if your soldier a currently is a prawn position they'll get up and run 2.Enemy Minefield: if there's a pop up saying there's a minefield around stop what you're doing and stop your soldiers by pressing F then look around and try find the minefield sign usually it's around the area that you are pushing into, this sign have a skull marking and a "MINE" written on it it's also pretty small and can be destroy like other object making it hard to find, but if you find that sign look where the sign is facing the minefield is always behind that sign and also past the minefield there's usually another sign marking the end of that minefield, with this in mind you have 2 choices either you go around the minefield or you go through it, if you choose to go around it just bare in mind that minefield sign only indicate how long the minefield is it may be wider than the distance between those two sign so be careful, if you have to get through it then you can use the field engineer to sweep it or you can use your heavy tank to plow through the minefield both are dangerous risky move as the enemy may have some unit watching the minefield and you may miss a mine or two that may bite you in the ass, so if you can I recommend that you avoid minefield as it's dangerous and took a lot of time to deal with it 3. Capturing Enemy Equipment: as long it's not burning or blown to pieces you can repair them and use it this is also apply to your equipment too so if you want to denied your stuff from getting capture set it on fire or blow it up, also I recommend you to use a tank crew or an engineer to fix stuff as they fix faster than a regular soldier
Thank you so much for this. I just picked this game up during the summer sale without looking into it that much, the tutorial is awful, like broken for me with bugs, it was so disappointing I seriously considered issuing a refund. I am so glad I didn't, just went and started a dynamic campaign instead and it's one of the most realistic most satisfying RTS games I have played in my life, and I have played a ton. Videos like this are really going to help allot of new people.
I'm very thankful you changed your mind. Such an underrated game. Really hoping more ppl come to see what I see in it. Anything you need help with, feel free to ask
A great tips and tricks video. Watching your season 2 playing as the USA has taught me so much about this game and I've been having a blast playing it at nearly 15 hours now. Thank you for helping to make it more accessible for new players.
My favourite WW2 strategy game, bought it 2 weeks ago and I already have 50 hours of gameplay. I am hoping for the next dlc to have the Pacific theater. Keep up the tutorials, enjoying they videos
@8:25 There's a small nuance depending on the side of the walled area you're on. It's best to block the vehicles with the tank traps then lay barbed wire or sand bags on your side. That way the enemy vehicles can't open an infantry path by driving over it. For shift click, you can also over lap sand bags a bit while the wall is being built by queuing up the next. That allows you to create solid bends or angles. If a placement isn't queued by any engineer (as in, you can also micro two engineers or more), the wall ends. It's then hard to get the next bag close, oriented and as small of a gap as possible. But, if it overlaps too much, it fails to build.
Good stuff mate, great video! 👍 Just a heads up, cinematic didnt used to work if you have skype, took a few of us ages to figure that out. Hopefully its been fixed but if you are struggling that may be why. :)
HEAT rounds don't necessarily cause an explosion inside of the tank, they are purely kinetic much like the needle you described the APCR shell as. Damage to crew and internals relies on spalling. The explosion happens upon impact on the outside of the tank, and that's only to turn the conical shaped lining into a jet and pierce through armor. The bazooka, panzerfaust, and many other infantry AT devices use the same shaped charge design. It is only high explosive by technicality (though you still definitely wouldn't want to stand near the impact point).
As Men of War veteran I knew almost everything, that video is amazing, very good explanation, very informative, for sure helpful for new players. Oh and btw, yes smoke is very helpful and AI don't care, but when playing multiplayer against players you need to be more carefull with smoke, yes, AI won't mind but player could start just firing with machineguns or artillery into smoke, still smoke is very good, just be careful with it because player thinks, AI not
As an OG soldiers.../faces of war/men of war player, this brief video was a good reference for Gates of Hell, which is a bit more complex and not as forgiving as the other titles, thanks for tips!
additional tips. Use the PAUSE Button in Conquest and Skirmish, it will help you for a tactical break or maybe look at surroundings. also useful if there's a delivery guy knocking at your door
it sucks there is no "slow mode" in conquest, I'm not sure why they didnt put it in there, since it can't be THAT different when you play the AI then the AI in campaign mode.. And because i play the campaign almost exclusively, and in the slowest game speed(explosions and buildings blowing up are soooo dope in slow motion) that when i try to play conquest all the soldiers and armor seem to move ridiculously and immersion breakingly fast.. Like it looks so unatural to me.Do soldiers and tanks seem to move faster in Conquest mode than in campaign mode too you? Or is it just my old ass because i play the single player in bullet time mode?
Great video Puggo! The Right mouse button will take you into "sniper" mode once your in tactical view.. ie, looking down the barrel of weapons or tanks.
I was also gonna add a little clarification to this part of the video, Puggo didn't mention that you can only use infantry first person view with snipers who have scopes. No other infantry can get a first person iron sight or scope view. AFAIK Scoped view is exclusive to snipers, crew-served weapons and vehicles.
HEAT is not a copper slug that kills through friction. It is a copper cone with high-explosives behind it and an impact fuse in the front. Once the shell hits a target, the fuse detonates the HE and that explosion causes the copper cone to turn into plasma. A very, very hot state of matter that is simillar to a gas. Because of the shape of the copper cone, a thing called 'the Bernouli effect' then propells the mass of plasma against the target, and it literally burns through solid steel. Obviously that creates a big fireball inside the tank and will ignite any ammo that it hits.
I believe the explosively formed penetrator derived from the copper cone punches through the armour using entirely kinetic energy. The plasma from the explosion may leak through but I don't know if this is a big effect. The EFP punches through. It doesn't burn through. Under the extreme pressure of the EFP hitting the armour the metal can behave like a liquid and flow away from the impact point. The EFP is extremely hot.
@@EoinLynch-v1y While yes, the plasma jet does not literally burn the armour, an EFP is entirely something else. It uses the Bernouli effect too, but it's not the same thing as a hollow charge. The reason I said a HEAT shell burns through armour is bacause that's how I visualize the jet going through a plate, but thermal energy doesn't actually do much in this case. It's also based mostly on kinetc energy, like an EFP, but it's not a slug that's hurled at the taget from a distance, it's a mass of plasma that's propelled against the target from a relative short distance (once the fuse detonates). And it's the plasma itself, accelerated by the explosion of the HE behind it, that punches through the target.
Btw you can also Collect thing from ground or from dead soldiers inventory in 1st/3rd person. You do that when you go close to the object (rifle or dead body) and he turn to dark green and if you but that means you cant take yet it means you are close but not enough. If you go closer object turn into light green colour and then you aim on it and press left on mouse and soldier will pick up gun or it opens inventories.
Dont know if you care but if you are interested... * HEAT does not use heat to melt through armour, the HE part of HEAT forces the copper cone to go super fast (2km/s) to use velocity to go through armour but that velocity comes from the explosion and not from the projectiles velocity. * APCBC-HE...Armour Piercing Capped Ballistic Capped - lets break it down! One thing to remember with using smoke. If you use smoke to block the line of sight of your enemy to change position, if another enemy unit is spotting you from a different direction, your troops will be visible to the units you're trying the block vision of and thus will be shot at as if they were fully visible without the smoke. I've made this mistake trying to rush a position by smoking a trench line and trying to charge it with infantry, not realising i'm being spotted by other units to the left or right of the trench line.
Amazing video man. I know about cinematic feature. This is main feature on my channel :D but some was really interresting for example comander on point. I did not know that. thanks a lot for these tips :) :D
Thanks for the tips. Very useful. Some I knew , some I didn't and some I had forgotten! What frustrates me is that sometimes it's left click, eg place mines but sometimes it's right click to place a series of tank obstacles. Is there an easy way to know when to use which? For example when in game I want to throw a smoke grenade so I select them but then I panic and don't know if its right or left click!
as far as I remember most action use left click and the only thing that use right click are move action and placing a line of defenses like sandbag, tank traps e.g (you can use left click too but it only do one at a time)
Little more detail on lining orders up, troop movement especially orders, gunner orders you pretty much went over but gun placements and building fortifications around them and this would be a top notch introduction to the game. Other than that nailed it.
one thing that you could add is when you are starting a game you can use engineers to make a defense one you base. by clicking in them then hovering over the sandbags below your flag
Awesome video, sir! Don't even own Gates of Hell yet, but after watching I am very tempted to buy it. Problem is that I already own Assault Squad 2 (and all DLC) but to be fair haven't had time to play it much to this point. So my BIG question (seeking your opinion). Is GOH that much better than Assault Squad 2 at this point in time to skip ahead to this newer game, despite the lack of content and buggy issues I have heard about in STEAM chat, etc. or just stick with Assault Squad 2 for now and wait until GOH becomes more stable and has more content like Assault Squad 2 does. *I am assuming that you probably have played Assault Squad 2. Appreciate your thoughts! BTW: New Sub as really enjoyed your content. Thanks! :)
I have both and believe GoH is superior. It's more polished and less arcade-like. However, GoH is notorious for it's micromanaging and, at times, poor pathing. These 2 things can be damning depending on the person. Otherwise, GoH easily takes the cake. Devs are active in keeping things fresh. They drop big updates often. Whatever you do you can't go wrong trying it out!. Glad to have you!
@@PuggoRebornChannel Thanks for the quick and informative reply, sir! Much appreciated. Damn the torpedoes, I think I will buy GOH and give it a try! As you stated really can't go wrong and the sale price certainly is affordable for all the content! BTW: As you have both games, do you know if the "Valour Mod" works for single player games in Assault Squad 2? Description within Steam says it is a multiplayer mod yet I keep running across comments in chats from people saying it also adds new stuff to single player as well and others state it works only for multiplayer. Very confused! :)
one thing that took me a while to find out is that you have to keybind your camera movements to look to the right left upwards and downwards and it isnt automatic which took me a while to figure out
Any tips on when to place sandbags, also is the small sandbags used for say to cover fieldguns a little better? I generally build foxholes and trenches for infantry instead of sandbags.
I put high sandbags by tanks to save a first shot. Use small bags for field guns if the inplacement option isn't available. I like putting sandbags at forwarding positions. Hard to do this as a RUclipsr bc it can be so time consuming
foxholes and trenches works well for infantries as it cover better and can took more damage than a sandbag but they're took longer to build, sandbag in the other hand is faster and cheaper to build so if you need to adjust your defenses you use sandbag to make a quick cover for you troops it works well against an attack from unexpected direction
Should also add how OP the King Tigers are in comparison with the T26, Pershing, & IS2 Nothing can easily Pierce the King Tigers front except the Nashorn and another King Tiger. While every other tank listed can.
Very true, the best practice is to flank or use tactics that bait on coming forces. I'm planning a video to talk about how to effectively use US faction
Great and helpful vid, had to find out alot of this on my own but i didn't know about the recon or commander thing. got my dad to play and maybe this vid will help em. Also love the broncos flag in yhe background, lets ride!
I think you missed a very important tip that is very useful specifically with artillery: "Attack Ground" option. Lets say you are playing conquest and you have multiple long range artillery pieces. As long as they are in range, order them to attack ground near the flag inside capture point. You know there are always enemy soldiers. Now your artillery will shell the enemy point while your other troops move closer. You don't need to see the enemy. This works also in defence when there are choke points like river crossings or bridges where the enemy will come. Sometimes I can even hear the enemy vehicle engine near the flag point and order my artillery to attack the ground there. This works also with mortars. Now you need to remember that they will continue to attack this specific ground as long as they have ammo or you command them otherwise.
This game is amazing, and a far better upgrade from the original. I used to play lots of Men of War: Assault Squad, and I find this is far better. Thanks for the tips.
When it comes to tank traps i recommend putting the barbwire either between or behind the tank traps that way a tank can run over it and let infatry through 😮
Great video. Quick question regarding mortars, will they fire more accurately if there is troops nearby with LOS on their target or maybe only if there is an officer using binos who can see the target area? or is accuracy solely to do with their skill level?
I feel like officers in GEM engine games are always under appreciated and if developers are going for realism the game should incorporate morale system and more in-depth suppression system so officers could be better utilized. But that’s not implemented probably because engine’s limitations.
For enemy mines, once you've found them with the mine sweeper, goto the function option to "pick-up" an item. It will add it to your inventory once you select it. Cheers.. I haven't tried wirh friendly mines, but the process should be the same. Just skip the mine sweeper piece.
AI mortars are a straight-up meme, and the power of a frag is ridiculous. 😂 other than that, I love the game. Hoping to get as much content as the other games they've done, can't wait for the British and common wealth to enter the scene, and I'd really love to see some Pacific action especially with the power of fire.
Hey, good and informative video, thx. Still one question - is there a pause button/function? Even in singleplayer I have to hold my pee the whole session.
Question: how to prevent units from going down to the ground all the time when there's fire near? I want them to charge and not crawl to their targets sometimes
@@PuggoRebornChannel thanks. But what if I want them to conquer an area (F5)? Then I can't DoubleClick Is there a way to tell them: 1. Go there 2. Attack everything on the way 3. Don't crawl on the way ? 😂
would you mind like doing a pvp guide for the americans specific like which infantry squad is good which not maybe cover the tabks since there a ton of shermans and stuff like that?
Just so you know the tanks in this game appear to be modeled relatively accurately, meaning if you know where the ammo stowage is…. Well. Welcome to ammo rack city Maybe it’s coincidence maybe it’s intended, idk.
Fastest way to get used to using the fire modes is to have any amount of mortars on your side and realizing they will fire at anything detected in range no matter what's around the target area xD
The only thing I can think of is either the half-track isn't set to fire at will, facing forward properly, or is out of range. If none of these things I will check it out and get back to you. What mortar truck are you having issues with?
@@PuggoRebornChannel there is like an option to have a blue line around the silouetthe of the vehicle for a few seconds even if you are not keeping it in the sights... i used to do it all the time but forgot which hotkey gives you this

one thing that you could add is when you are starting a game you can use engineers to make a defense one you base. by clicking in them then hovering over the sandbags below your flag
Terrific tips thanks. Will have a look at your other videos. Have subscribed, looking forward to more tactical advice.
That was a Cowtastraphy, poor Daisy May cow!! Cows were hurt in the making of this video!!..lol Great tips!!
Lololol forgot the disclaimer
Good tips, and boy does this game need a guide, but I’ve never, ever heard a turret referred to as a ‘head’. 🤔
As long as you understand the lingo, I'm happy.
one thing that took me a while to find out is that you have to keybind your camera movements to look to the right left upwards and downwards and it isnt automatic which took me a while to figure out
Keep it up bro,
Great tips, thank you bro.
Happy to help!
Let's Ride! Hahaha thanks!
Good Tip, I just felt these were great foundations to start with
Excellent stuff - learned a good few tricks!
This game is amazing, and a far better upgrade from the original. I used to play lots of Men of War: Assault Squad, and I find this is far better. Thanks for the tips.
Absolutely!
Btw, love the diamond dogs logo. I'm ready for Snake eater!
Whats your PC setup? Specifically, whats your CPU? I have a GTX 2080 and a 10600k but your game seems to run so much better
They don't, it's purely based on unit skill
That's a really great question
I feel like officers in GEM engine games are always under appreciated and if developers are going for realism the game should incorporate morale system and more in-depth suppression system so officers could be better utilized. But that’s not implemented probably because engine’s limitations.
That would be great to implement if it could@@fatrat9676
Thanks that was really good. One question, how do you remove mines, your own and the enemy’s please?
For enemy mines, once you've found them with the mine sweeper, goto the function option to "pick-up" an item. It will add it to your inventory once you select it. Cheers.. I haven't tried wirh friendly mines, but the process should be the same. Just skip the mine sweeper piece.

Great video! Really helpful.
lol flamethrower vs tank seems a little OP
some handy tips though, thanks
best tutorial ive seen so far
brilliant breakdown! very useful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this I subbed 🙏
OMG!!! Thanks a lot man! Im a one of them (about point 1)! Its my first coment only for raise your channel!!!
Thank you! Hope the channel serves you well!
Funny enough 29:00 I hardly use the mechanic now unless if im up against a well armor tank 😅
Great stuff!
liking and subbing for this clean content
Excellent video, thank you
Glad you enjoyed
AI mortars are a straight-up meme, and the power of a frag is ridiculous. 😂 other than that, I love the game. Hoping to get as much content as the other games they've done, can't wait for the British and common wealth to enter the scene, and I'd really love to see some Pacific action especially with the power of fire.
Good tips. This game is so f'ing cool.
Hell yeah
Awesome videos! (All of 'em)
Is there a direct competitor to ctaGoH? What in your opinion is the better rts? What are the nearest competitors in your opinion? Thanks
thanks puggo very helpfull
How to fix the editor crashing when you open it?
Can't say I've had that issue, but then again, I don't use the editor much. I would ask CTA's discord. They're great at helping with these things
awesome, thanks 🎉
Great video👍
Klasse Arbeit !
Hey, good and informative video, thx.
Still one question - is there a pause button/function?
Even in singleplayer I have to hold my pee the whole session.
Yes, you just need to check your key bind settings
Goat
Great video
Cheers mate.
thanks for the share.
Question: how to prevent units from going down to the ground all the time when there's fire near? I want them to charge and not crawl to their targets sometimes
Double click where to go. They will book it
@@PuggoRebornChannel thanks. But what if I want them to conquer an area (F5)? Then I can't DoubleClick
Is there a way to tell them:
1. Go there
2. Attack everything on the way
3. Don't crawl on the way ? 😂
would you mind like doing a pvp guide for the americans specific like which infantry squad is good which not maybe cover the tabks since there a ton of shermans and stuff like that?
I will be doing a US Faction guide somewhere in January
@@PuggoRebornChannel ohh yes baby im really looking forward to it allthough i believe its comparable to men of war as2
Very good video! :)
Thanks brotha!
Just so you know the tanks in this game appear to be modeled relatively accurately, meaning if you know where the ammo stowage is…. Well. Welcome to ammo rack city
Maybe it’s coincidence maybe it’s intended, idk.
Fastest way to get used to using the fire modes is to have any amount of mortars on your side and realizing they will fire at anything detected in range no matter what's around the target area xD
Lol
Is there a way to put my grenade to my hotbar? I accidentally removed my grenade hotbar and for some reason I can't bring it back anymore
Thanks!
Nice tips !
Thank you. I'm having issues with the mortar half track firing.. the MG shoots but the mortar crew doesn't fire their mortars.. what am I doing wrong?
The only thing I can think of is either the half-track isn't set to fire at will, facing forward properly, or is out of range. If none of these things I will check it out and get back to you. What mortar truck are you having issues with?
Haven't played this in awhile, please, what is the hotkey for tagging a vehicle that gets into your crosshairs in direct control mode?
Idk how to tag, but as long as the cursor is on the target the target will light up for a while
@@PuggoRebornChannel there is like an option to have a blue line around the silouetthe of the vehicle for a few seconds even if you are not keeping it in the sights... i used to do it all the time but forgot which hotkey gives you this
I'm pretty sure during liberation update they made recon units harder to see I am pretty sure it does say it patch notes.
The update was after I made the video. Can you confirm the range? If so, I will pin it
I got I question, how do you get in the sandbox mod ?
Go to steam workshop. Might be able to find it there. Either that or follow steps thru Nexus Mod website
Thx
put your wire behind your anti veh obstacles.
Thank you 👍
You bet!
you can also right click for first person instead of scrolling
Good Job
