What's more important is preserving existing forests. Unfortunately, you can't replant rainforests. It takes thousands of years for the complex ecosystems to develop.
Actually a lot of the worlds forests are now producing net C02 rather than absorbing it since they're so degraded. Plus they're still being chopped down so planting trees is a good way to go. Exponentially better than doing nothing as well. And the trees are being planted in places that resemble deserts so this is actually a great thing for the people who live near these places.

Hello, your report is very well thought out, but I want to add something: -Bing may be less "green" than Google, but ECOSIA has its own solar power plant, which "reimburses" their search footprint (only Ecosia's on Bing's servers). -If ECOSIA still exists, it is thanks to Bing, because, at the beginning, ECOSIA used Google's servers, which then fired them, for logical economic reasons, and Bing then agreed to "help" them.
Just an FYI about the "Self-published" accounts details for Ecosia, they are based in Germany, if those books were wrong we would have heard about it, it's one of the most regulated and monitored finance environments in the world.

Ecosia is actually a really nice search engine. You lose nothing and you help fight the climate change. What's not to like? :) Honestly, if everyone was doing these "Small Token" things like using Ecosia, choosing a paper bag over plastic, etc. then it would all add up to a huge difference. There are over 500 million people in countries being part of the European Union. People in the EU are pretty rich and even in the poorest EU member states average person can count on decent living conditions. If you were to take annually 10 Euro from each one in tax it would amount to over 5 Billion Euro. Assuming that planting a single tree costs about 0,2 Euro a tree (what Ecosia Claims), then each year there could be 25 Billion Trees planted each year. That number is of course greatly inflated and just an estimate, but take 1/5 of it and you still have 5 Billion Trees a Year with just 10 Euro a Year (less than 0.10 Euro a month) from each EU Citizen. Small things can add up to something great! Also, planting trees is one of the most effective ways of preserving an ecosystem. Trees stabilize the ground, protect less robust crops from too much sun rays and dehydration, they absorb CO2 and other environmentally harmful substances, provide habitat for various creatures, etc. etc. Trees are the simplest answer to most Environment Problems. Not all, but most + they look beautiful and a stroll through the forest is one of the great joys of life IMHO.
If you think about it....to make change happen, a lot of people have to change. And if you say to yourself "meh, someone else will do it, so I don't have to" think about how someone else probably just thought the same thing. So, yes, you SHOULD do those little things, because in the long run you'll be helping out
@@Honeyflight paper bags emit more about 40 times more carbon-dioxide than plastic ones, if you just throw the plastic bags away it's way better for the environment. Plastic bags are also cheaper. You could write a script that makes automated searches. In the other hand that would lower their income per search and increase the number of searches they need for planting a single tree.
@@happygimp0 I did this, but then I realized that they only receive profits from ad clicks. You could theoretically write a script that clicks on these randomly, but I feel like there's probably some kind of captcha in place.
@Koniki It should work, they do not use a captcha because no one would bother with that and the ad would be useles. It is called click fraud but i think there could be negative long term consequences and i do not know if it is legal.

Hello, your report is very well thought out, but I want to add something:
-Bing may be less "green" than Google, but ECOSIA has its own solar power plant, which "reimburses" their search footprint (only Ecosia's on Bing's servers).

To add - ecosia have now built their own solar power system which produces more energy than what they consume as a company, including the servers. This means that they're even more carbon negative than before!

Ecosia is actually a really nice search engine. You lose nothing and you help fight the climate change. What's not to like? :)
Honestly, if everyone was doing these "Small Token" things like using Ecosia, choosing a paper bag over plastic, etc. then it would all add up to a huge difference.
So, yes, you SHOULD do those little things, because in the long run you'll be helping out
@@heyitsdusk And the more people do these things the larger the difference will be and more people will be joining.
Don't use paper bags, they are way more damaging than plastic ones.
@@feikedejong5247 Just use reusable bags because both aren't very good. But if you had to choose I think paper is the slightly better option.
@@Honeyflight paper bags emit more about 40 times more carbon-dioxide than plastic ones, if you just throw the plastic bags away it's way better for the environment. Plastic bags are also cheaper. It's a shame that there is such a lack of focus. There is a lot of talk about things of minor importance. for example, I suppose you have been told to shower less. But if you replace meat from your diet once a week you can leave all your taps running and you would have a higher impact.

I just want to say that you have to use the search thing 45 times before you plant a tree.
@Koniki
It should work, they do not use a captcha because no one would bother with that and the ad would be useles. It is called click fraud but i think there could be negative long term consequences and i do not know if it is legal.
@@happygimp0 They could be using a hidden captcha that just makes sure the clicks are genuine, but you're probably right, I doubt they would actually care about this. It doesn't look like there's much legislation on click fraud and is more of an issue when it's committed by companies. Just throw the script onto a Tails VM and should be fine xD
@@koniki7050 Ad companies do use machine learning to tell if you're an actual human browsing their page or just a bot that clicks on things. I've heard from people who work in that industry that filtering out fake clickers is extremely easy nowadays.

Ecosia planted +100,000 trees on the amazon starting last month
But also keep in mind the cause of the Fires.
It's mostly farmers setting the Forest on fire because of the demand for animal products.
The animal products industry is the leading cause of deforestation worldwide.

Awesome idea for a video! I did some snooping around a while ago when I heard about ecosia because I was skeptical and particularly concerned the tree plantings wouldn't be indigenous to the areas they'd be in, but I was a little put off by the concept of not being powered entirely by renewables. But then again, I think the principal of what they do is important, and I'd imagine that if their values are ecological they would aim to make their work as sustainable as possible in the long run within their own ability. Loved this video, keep up the good work
