Brody admitted to being addicted to drugs during the early Distillers days and you can tell she was on something, I'm so happy she's clean now and the band is back together
The lady who translated probably was a bit overwhelmed by too many people talking and laughing, she missed many parts. For example Brody says she likes Circus Stars, people who perform acrobatic things in circus shows - the Woman who translated only got the end word of it 'stars'. The drummer Andy Granelli talked about their pet dogs who they train to do tricks and jumps, the guitarist Tony said Yes and they trained me too, asked by the emailed question what they need to have great fun for a good show, they probably meant the best to have a is a great connection to the audience, and named places in Leipzig - did they say a venue there is called Dog House? Etc.
So awkward with the English/German language barrier and just the nature of punk rock musicians. Love it. Creepy ill admit but i love seeing Brody smile. Not a common occurrence as she smiles rarely. I love seeing any bands smile that i love. However ill be as cringe as possible by saying shes brilliant when she sneaks a smile on camera.
Seriously the most hefty time for the band, never ending tours, the studio sound tech here is very messy, it's 2 song television in-and-out dury run, pretty much the worst you can get as a band and musician between sleeping on a band buss and coffee on the petrol station, no it was not ''the drugs'' - the most mainstream audience anticipated thing to talk about. All the other above are enough. Like many bands in conflict with a sudden jump to a grade of fame, this band stopped their journey in response. They part re-united on Brody Dalle's projects Spinnerette and Diploid Love and returned as The Distillers in 2018. Again the Covid years 2020-22 took their toll. A live album and a single since, but not yet the new album. We're with them since and forever, regardless. Check their songs on other videos with better sound recording and original album audio.
Beautiful. Iconic. Rad. Wow. Just WOW. (BTW idiot guy said distillers dismantle me and they went into drain the blood js like wtf my dude get it right!!)
Not to be That Person replying a year late, but Dero DID say "Here are The Distillers with 'Drain the Blood' and 'Dismantle Me'" before they launched into "Drain the Blood." So he did get the song name right. And he's far from being an idiot.
A few things here, because I am irritated and have little patience for ignorant monolingual English-speakers today. * The host, Dero, is the lead singer/drummer in a band called OOMPH!, which was founded in 1989 and single-handedly created the Neue Deutsche Härte genre that a little band you may have heard of called Rammstein belongs to. He is NOT normally a reporter, much less for this TV station. (Dero also has two other side-projects: What About Bill? which covers English songs in a jazz style; and Die Kreatur, his new project with Lord of the Lost singer Chris Harms.) * Some of the other comments here are on how bad/awkward the interview is (I'm guessing by Distillers fans), and I- *You* try having an interview in a country not your own where you do not speak the language the host does and have to rely on an interpreter. * The band straight-up admits at the very beginning that they do not speak any German whatsoever. And Dero _does_ occasionally code-switch to English when he wants to make his point clearer. * You can also kind of see Dero die a little inside with the sorts of questions he has to ask or listen to from callers (this isn't his usual job, okay, he did his best). And it's so obvious that The Distillers had no idea what they were getting into when they agreed to an interview on this station. * And I mean?? Dero's _trying_ to find a common connection with The Distillers when he starts the interview, but their answers being frustratingly vague and their singer being strung out on _something_ during the whole interview (or coming down from it) does _not_ help. * Watching Dero's face and body language during this whole interview... you can kind of see him start to get... not quite _irritated,_ exactly, but . . . * It's also just... _weird_ and very rude to me that the band starts subtly making fun of Dero near the end while he's interviewing them. Like ...????? the hell?? Just because Dero's more comfortable asking questions in German (because *you are in a German TV studio recording for a German audience),* you're relying on a interpreter translating what he's saying to English because _you do not speak his language at all,_ and Dero has an accent when he does switch to English to clarify a question. I- ??? Rude much?? (Like... Dero’s not dumb at all, so he knew.) Dero, later: * rattles off a question in German about the album's lyrics * Andy Granelli, the drummer: "...What is the... wha-? I don't know... [laughs]" Dero, with a not-quite pleasant smile: "The lyrics, mainly." me, pointing at Dero: _Save him._
