- In this episode, the dogs and I are in western Kentucky hunting quail and woodcock. For us, late-season hunting turns out to be a little better for quail than early season. There is also truck camping.

Im here in KY for this season. Thank you for your video. It go me excited to go out.
Thanks for watching, and good luck this season!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching a man & his dogs ! For me, its not about the score at the end of the day. Its the ability to be able to look back on the memorable moments of the day. Its a real pleasure to watch y’all. Chuck from Texas.
I agree on the importance of memorable moments... and will work towards more birds. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Pretty country❤ and love that camp oven
Ive had a few Brittanies, one of the best breeds I have ever hunted over. An all-around dog, quail, pheasant, woodcock, snipe, and ducks. One, I had and hunted for 18 years. Great companion.
Wow! 18 years... that's great. I'm definitely sold on the breed. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
Great video Brady, well done! 👍
Thanks Eric!
Greetings from Ireland. Superb hunting - excellent work from the dogs. A pleasure to watch.
Thank you!
I agree Kenneth 👍🏻
Great little hunt and enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking us along and God bless!
Thank you for watching the videos!
Awesome video 🇺🇸👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed watching some top notch dog work.
Thank you!
I hunted quail and pheasant some when I lived in Kansas but I've been back in KY for the past few years and am getting the itch to go bird hunting again. Glad to see that quail hunting is getting more popular here! Hopefully that leads to more areas of them in the state! I hope you continue to make videos here in KY!
Thanks for your comment! I definitely plan to make more KY videos for both quail and woodcock. Thanks again!
@@thebirdbum9182 I look forward to watching them! Can't wait to try and get out there myself this fall. I am glad to know that it's better to go during the late season to public ground too.
@@kbowen2251 I'm also itching to get back to it. I wanted to add that probably not everyone feels the same way about late season... that has just been my experience. Thanks again!
@@thebirdbum9182 well for me the fact that late season is viable at least is good to know. Most of the early season I'll still probably be deer hunting on my own property unless I manage to tag out quickly.
Such a cool video!
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
If you're where I think you are, we found most of our birds near the wood lines when we were there in December. Next time you're in the area, reach out. I've got some pretty good private land in the area and wouldn't mind hunting with brittanys. I've been eyeballing that breed pretty hard lately.
Thanks for the tip. I have found them quite a bit around tree lines, too... or if there is even a small group of trees out in the open. Thanks for the offer to hunt! I'll definitely reach out. Also, of course, keep us in mind if you end up looking for a Brittany. Thanks again
Enjoyed the video. The truck camping looks great, and loved the dog work.
Thanks Del! Gretchen is already starting to show!
Really liked the video and dog work looking forward to some more.
Thank you!
Well done. Nice buck! We have another month of bird hunting here in Michigan, so stop on by anytime.
Thank you! I've actually considered it and will definitely try my hand at winter grouse hunting either this year or next. Thanks again!
That woodcock looks like a tough shot to me. Of course, you'd have no luck explaining that to the dog
That's funny! But you're right... the dogs don't see it that way. Thanks for watching.
Man that looks like so much fun! Would love to experience that!
Really enjoyed that!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the video. I am looking forward to retiring to Western Kentucky in a couple of years. I hunt Iowa now and enjoy getting into quail when we are in the southern part of the state. Have a great season.
Thank you! You have a great season, too!
Merci pour le partage de cette expérience de chasse
Happy to share! Thank you for watching!
Like these vids. Nice job. Makes me miss my Brittany Sam- great dog. 👍🏻👏🏻
Thanks for watching and for your comment! I know what you mean about missing old dogs. Thanks again.
Looks like prime hunting country, wish we had public land hunting here in Scotland. You either pay to shoot or get permission from kind farmers. Love the Brittany’s. Subbed 👍All the best from Scotland 🏴 GD
Thank you for your comment! I almost exclusively hunt public land and am thankful to have it. I'm surprised to learn there isn't public-land hunting there. I imagine there are quite a few bird hunters in Scotland. Thanks for watching!
Our federal refuge here in Michigan loaded with pheasants.. my son's been deer hunting in there few years.. not sure if you can hunt pheasant or not.. might open after duck closes .. some of our state management areas has pheasant.. really have seen improvements as fare as duck production and that's great for pheasant.. DU saved them areas and I like the changes they are making... They started stocking some areas that don't have pheasant but really new program.. birds are great raised professional.. we rather hunt grouse and woodcock or wild pheasant. We have some pretty good spots late season is always better
Sounds like there are some good things going on there! Late season is probably better in a lot of places. Thanks for your comment.
@@thebirdbum9182 really couldn't imagine living anywhere else being born and raised... Just so much public land and access.. our fishing really good big walleye are on the bite right now.. just keeps getting better
Too dry for woodcocks here in northern Indiana this past fall. Went scouting 3 times just before season, didn't put up a single bird. Didn't bother to go out for them.
I had pretty much the same experience here in eastern KY. When I went out, we didn't have hardly any Woodcock... I believe because it was too dry. Hopefully things will be better next season. Thanks for your comment!
What about your shower and some more setup videos?
Thanks for your comment. I had someone else recently ask about the shower setup. I'll get a video out about that before too long. I appreciate the suggestions!
Peabody WMA?
The truck camp set up is really neat! What size bed is on that truck?
I'm liking the truck setup. I believe it's a 6' bed; however, when I measured, it was actually a couple of inches longer, which helped for fitting in the cot.
Hi , what kind of dogs are you running? I love your videos
Hi.. these are American Brittanys. A good medium-sized versatile dog. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
@@thebirdbum9182 thanks for the fast reply? That's what I thought but wanted to to make sure. I live in wv do you know where you can find puppies? What kind of price should I expect?
Thanks!!!!!
We usually have a litter every year. We're expecting a litter from Boogie (in the videos) this spring. Here is a link to our website, which tells more about each dog and price: www.quailridgebrittanys.com/
@@thebirdbum9182 sent you a phone message ty!
What part of Kentucky are you from brother I was born in Madisonville ❤
Madisonville is great... we're in northeastern KY in the Morehead area.
Hey how do you find land to go camp out and hunt that seems like a ton of fun.
@@banjobbqllc It is a lot of fun! I hunt almost exclusively on public land, and in most cases you can also camp at these same areas. Camping is definitely better for me than staying in a motel... though I've done my share of that, too. Thanks for watching and for your comments!
Get video, what oven are you using on your stove?
That's a pretty basic oven... a Coleman oven. I added a couple of fire bricks on the bottom and put a bowel of water in while baking. I also stuck a cooking thermomotor in there to get a better read on the temperature. What I liked most about this oven is that it folds down flat when not in use, which helps with space. Thanks for your comment and for watching!!
@@thebirdbum9182 thanks! Great setup!
What over/under are you shooting?
That's a CZ Upland Ultralight.
Really like how you talk about your dogs and their different attributes.
Curious, what GPS program do you use?
Thanks for watching! I am using an old GPS system that I've had for a long time. It's the Garmin Astro 320.
@@thebirdbum9182 Thanks for the info!
