I think the scene on the staircase with his parents was Deans finest acting moment. He has trademark angst and yet is wise- the character is wiser than his parents.

Supposedly James thought up staging the scene on the stairs. His creativity and knowledge of his character and story was phenomenal and even to today, unequalled. Also credit to Nick Ray to allow James to do what he felt was right in the film

When he suddenly turns to his dad and says, "You better give me something... you better give me something fast," ...I froze up. He has amazing presence and power. I love him.

An absolute classic, and a must-see. But am I the only one who thinks that Sal Mineo was terrible in this? Not for a nanosecond do I forget that he's acting. And he got nominated for an Academy Award!

People forget that Dean wasnt famous. He only became famous in death so the man himself missed out

@Clink Roslam Dennis Hopper said in a interview that East of Eden wasn't successful in its first run money wise. His friend Lew Bracker said no one ever asked Jimmy for an autograph when ever he was with him.

OMG!! Words cannot express how much I love James Dean, he's my favorite actor :) I love everything about him, his looks, style, and acting. Thank you for posting this video. I've been looking for the recent one Giant on TCM The Essentials. Do you happen to have that video too? If so, could you please post it! Thanks :)

Really miss Robert Osborne, it seems to me that TCM is just not the same without him. Tough shoes to fill.

this was also the first Natalie wood film to be a PG-13 rating for its subject about teens

? There was no ratings board until 1968 and no PG-13 until Red Dawn in 1986. This movie is a PG imo, if it came out in the 70s it would've gotten a G quite possibly, the retroactive PG-13 on this film is absolutely laughable, considering the content.

@@janinebrittanica4314 The PG-13 rating was on the back cover of my DVD which is very disappointing.

Where does the title of "Rebel Without a Cause" come from? I have read it in the Bible.....can't remember the scripture, though.

Sharon Collins a book from the 40s'. Movie has nothing to do with the book. Two totally different stories. Only the titles are the same.

The film is one of my all time favorites and it is a story that transcends identity, backgrounds and circumstances. It speaks to all the struggles that teenagers go through and Jim, Plato and Judy all represent each of them with great heart and humanity. This is the film that made me fall in love, idolize and respect James Dean. Sal Mineo's character Plato I related to most- an introverted, sensitive, and devoted soul who craves love and understanding in the face of an insincere world. A classic for everyone no matter what age- this movie is a classic through and through.

This is one of those classics that does not need a remake. The movie has been adapted for a stage play I heard. No one can play the characters like the original cast and while the story is tragic and deals with lots of hard issues- there is no point in changing a detail or try to top the original.
