The concept of the 'teenager' was really a post-WWII phenomena. Up until then; you were a child, then an adult. Following the war, you had the first adolescent generation with disposable income, and a 'what's it all about' frame of mind. This was again, a pretty new concept, and primarily (though, not limited to) American teens. Parents, at the time, either tried to enforce their own experiences through their children, or they indulged them as they could not be, during the Great Depression and/or the War. James Dean epitomized all of that angst, even if his career was very short (or perhaps, partially because of it), with both 'Rebel Without a Cause' and in 'East of Eden'. Your review covered all the main points of the film, and with your usual insight. Thanks, as always. :)
Thank you as always for checking out the video and for you great comment. I may cover Dean's other movies at some point as all are worthy of discussion. Hope you have a great week! Take care.
I remember watching this on an old black and white tv when the BBC did a season of deans films all three back in the early to mid 70s I’ve not seen it since As you say time to check it out. Interesting video thanks as always.
Brilliant film, one of my favourites. I love all three of his films, all are great!
