Hey man! I've enjoyed seeing your channel progress through the last few years. You're one of my favs. Your breakdown of the youtube shorts experiment was interesting! Thanks!
I appreciate that!
I am not a big fan of the shorts format. But as long as you have a regular format every so often I will watch.
That's my goal - love producing the in between content but understand that YT was built for the long form - and of course, just watch what you want!
like and comment for algorithm 😉
I hate shorts! First of all, because they are vertical and I can't stand vertical videos (you are allowed to turn your phone 90°, people!). Then because they are, well, short... And mostly because they are most of the time "recycled" material from earlier longer videos. So I don't watch them, I even added an extension to Google Chrome to hide them completely from my feed. But I still get the information that there's a new video on your channel. I'm still hoping those will eventually go away as creators realize they don't make any money on those.
I would say about 50% is cut down material from previous videos (my argument is that 80% of my subs have never seen 95% of my vids, so why not introduce them to it), and the other 50% is all net new content that doesn't make sense for long videos, meaning it rightfully so should be short and informative for my audience!
Shorts are annoying and stupid. Shorts are borne of competition with TikTok, which has only exacerbated the shortening attention span issue. I happen to have a good attention span and want full length videos. That’s why I watch RUclips. I am capable and willing to learn ore than one thing in a video. I won’t watch shorts.
Just curious - do you watch TikTok or IG stories/reels?
