I fell n love with philodendron hastatum for its colour. I spent the evening trying to find out the other variety that many people seem to think there is; unsuccessful. I searched for narrow form, wide form ... to no avail. There is the juvenile form that has leaves roughly the size of a juvenile pothos, then there is the semi-adult which is roughly the size of your larger leaves in this video and the adult leaves are increadible - like very large arrow heads. The word hastatum according to an online dictionary: adjective. Definitions: armed with spear/spears. first line of a Roman army. I'd love it if your friend could provide accurate info on the second form. There is however a philodendron subhastatum - that has long darker green foliage, and less pointy, and I wonder if that is what people mean with "the other form". It too is a nice plant, but totally different form Hastatum.
She sure is pretty. Love the wide leaf. I did not know there was two either until I bought mine as narrow form then went digging around for more information on this plant. I too LOVE the pretty light silver on the leaves. Mine is growing pretty fast too but it was just a wee thing when I bought it early summer so will be awhile before I can prop her to get a fuller pot.
Hi Suzette, thank you for the video. Just wondering if you had an update on Linda Sue, I know that I am late on asking this question but I just saw the video you posted the other day. I know that she was battling some health problems praying that she is okay and on the mend.
No question, the Silver Sword is one very gorgeous philo, but it is a vine & vines climb. I am in the tropics & this plant grows very fast, it can climb a 4 foot pole in a few months & as it grows the top leaves become really big & heavy as well as the trunk, & it becomes a problem at this stage as the whole system is now top heavy. A gust of wind is enough to topple it over. What to do? My biggest plant I cut into sections, rooting them now & in a week's time plant the cuttings, however it will grow & become a tall vine again. I am seriously thinking of planting them at the base of one of my trees & let nature take it's course. I am sure it will just shoot up the tree in no time. . Curious to know how you guys manage your Hastatum. .
Wow that is amazing. I think k letting it climb up a tree is a great idea . I would do the same if I could here..lol not in Ohio, no 😂 may have to tie her to start with but after that.. like you said nature will take its course. Well I just grow mine up a steak. Mine will never get that big as it will for you there in the tropical paradise. I have cut mine now several times and rooted and put back into mother pot so it's more bushy. I guess I'll just have to see how it goes as years go bye. Lol 😂 ✌️💕🌿

Ya they seem to grow pretty fast. At least mine has seemed to from a small uprooted cutting. Pretty 😍 plant glad I have it.

I really don't know. Last I knew she was still doing OK. That was a couple months ago.
