Montserat Caballe, the opera singer who did a classical album with Freddie, said she knows no singer who is as good as Freddie when it comes to "selling the song". What she meant with "selling the song" is, that he didn't just sing the right notes with a pretty voice - he also always found the perfect tone, grit, the right mood, emotions, etc that fits the song and its theme, which is as important to sell a song to the audience. People often overlook that. As you said here: it's the attitude! He knows exactly what he's doing and how to pull it off.
@@EnoVarma Roger Daltrey is a good singer but he is not on Freddie 's level when it comes to expression. Subjects such as expression tend to be explored far deeper in genres like opera, because you are playing a role. So you have the express the feelings of the character. This video explains more of Freddie's expression in a technical manner: ruclips.net/video/1bnDkBdWMNg/видео.html
AWESOME You said it. Nothing more to add. But I will … PERFECT !! Every second of this song couldn’t be better. That’s a lot to live up to and they did ( Only thing better than hearing it is seeing it LIVE 😂 ) Your guitar is beautiful ✌🏼
The live performance at Milton Keynes 1982 is awesome. Another of Brian's songs that screams to be played live and sung along to like We Will Rock You and Tie Your Mother Down. Freddie had fun with this one on stage. A classic.
You'll also notice that the back of the album is the opposite of the front. White with black circles, instead of black with white circles. Also, on the back of the album, the word "Jazz" is also backwards. This is because the backwards masking. Listen to Dead On Time, but do so backwards. It's nothing evil or satanic, and it's actually kinda funny.
During the time Paul Rodgers toured with them, '04-'09, when they did this song, Brian, Roger, the bass player would move off the main stage. Roger had his bass drum, Brian his guitar the bass player had an upright bass and Paul sang. Quite cool.
Neato! I've listened to this track many times - NEVER wearing headphones. Real neatness from all four of them...Freddie, Roger, Brian and John, just musicians extraordinaire!
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of the occasion, way back in the late 70's at a church disco I used to attend, that a rather Victorian misery of someone's Grandmother complained when this song was played, stating that it was, 'vulgar', due to the title. And, even back then, as a supposed innocent child, I felt quite incredulous to the fact that someone would think such a way, especially when such a mild descriptor as a, 'fat bottom', that belonged to a girl was deemed inappropriate. Mind you, it's a rather puritanical attitude that still exists to this day, with a certain streaming service that caters almost exclusively to kids having omitted the song from their Queen's Greatest Hits album, for exactly the same reason. Seems some people's attitudes never change. As kids, we knew that girls had bottoms and that some of them were fat. Beyond that, we never even thought about it, or had any kind of connotation of what it was supposed to mean. It was just a great, rocking song.
Awesome ...again. Lovin your Queen reactions Squire! ... I like all your honest analysis to each one, I had pleasure in seeing them live 6 times from 79' to 86. The best gigs I've ever attended !!!!
Love your guitar!! Thanks for sharing! 🎸 Believe it or, it’s a favorite of my granddaughter’s!! Can’t help but move to the melodic beat!! Performed live is my favorite. 🚨🚨 Great reaction from a “blue-eyed floozy”! 🤣🤣 🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️
i hear fat bottom girls and i think Zappa but it's Queen and possibly different girls (by way of Jewish Princesses not because Zappa said they have fat bottoms but because songs with titles like that make waves )
Jealousy next, I'm a life long queen fan, no matter what you think of the song, the penultimate jealousy, in my opinion, is my favourite note he does. Great reactions, love your honesty.
Harmonious ode to the pudge! #Queenfightsnegbodyimage. Didn't know basses had drop down D pegs...some of the Floyd Rose trems have em....but I've heard mixed reviews. FBG used to revive a bunch of us rowdy wrestlers after grueling practices! Ah...the good ol' days.....Great J!
My son is putting those tuners on some of his 4 strings for same reason. He has Mama Mia musical he is playing in and the music calls for a 4 string, 5 string and fretless. He is working with his teacher to avoid needing the 5 string. He wants to play fretless on some so…. And I can’t stand this song. lol. It’s played way too much on Sirius radio (yes, I’m the guy who subscribes to Sirius😂). I can say after all these queen songs, I’m still not a fan. Yes, like some songs but never in my life will I see myself sitting down and seeking them out.
At first I was wondering how you got your hands on Stevie Ray's guitar. 😂 That tuning peg looks like a feat of engineering. How it can do that and hit the right tuning is beyond me.
I heard this had been recently taken off their playlist because it's insulting to fat-bottomed (overweight) women. In the non-PC years of the 70's this was, to my knowledge never given a thought. That drop-D tuner is clever. I love this song, it's completely bombastic!
It was not taken off “their playlist”. - It was removed from ONE rather obscure streaming service that is geared toward small children (ages 2-6), and was not the only song so removed (ie from bands/artists other than Queen).
Unless you know the Jazz album pretty well, I doubt you've heard Jealousy. It was a single, yes, but not very popular. The B side of the Jealousy single was Fun It, another funky Roger Taylor tune.
Huh! I think this was the first time I listened to this song through headphones! 😳 And I've known it for 43 years! 😅 The mix sounds kinda 'empty' to me during those two parts with only 1 guitar in them, panned hard Right. And I heard a wee boo-boo from the guitar in the Right channel after the first Chorus (G-major chord but he plays a low F for a second) 😊
Now thats some REAL aging on a guitar, not some of this factory crap. If your gigging stuff happens. I need to get a drop D tuner, thats, as we used to say back in the day, bitchin’.
Fat Bottomed Girls - by Brian May John Deacon: Bass Brian May: Backing vocals and electric guitar Freddie Mercury: Lead and backing vocals Roger Taylor: Drums
Apparently a “kid-friendly” music platform released the greatest hits album recently but omitted this song because it was deemed inappropriate for children. A lot of debates occurred because of that... I enjoyed it a lot as kid though 🤷♂️ … perhaps my parents didn’t appreciate that very much lol
Great rocker and a definite highlight, but I've always felt the mixing is a little off. It doesn't quite jump on your throat, if you know what I mean. Should have been produced like a Who track; that guitar deserved better. This one I really fell for after a classic episode of "Chuck" - awesome cover. My jazz rating: 1/10. Not even slightly jazzy.
According to Brian May they were recording in the red when it hit the tape.... it was a style at the time but it does lead to a bit of a hard sound I think... I always wondered if that could be fixed in the modern age with AI... The Game was more glossy but I was done with Queen by then.

Roger Daltrey
Yes, indeed Freddie had some of the very best expression of any singer ever.

Legendary song! I will be anxious to hear your take on the next song. Thanks for the reactions.

Fat Bottomed Girls, The Prophet's Song, White Man, Procession, Headlong. The Hitman are all in drop D tuning!
Yes, and they are all Brian's songs ... Awesome.
A perfectly constructed rock song.

Queen are masters at writing novelty songs!
I'm so used to the radio edit that this sounds positively epic. 😆

Bands in my small town used to play this one, rock and country bands. Great song. Great reaction

❤I LOVE THIS SO MUCH❤❤CLASSIC QUEEN!❤Thanks for the great reaction❤
Hard to not love this song. Strangely a good dance song. I love it, what can I say, It is a Brian song.
Yup awesome & straight up fun. The video is very fun.
My favourite line in the song is right at the end - when Freddie says, "Ride 'em, Cowboy!". No reactor ever seems to notice, though.
i hear fat bottom girls and i think Zappa but it's Queen and possibly different girls (by way of Jewish Princesses not because Zappa said they have fat bottoms but because songs with titles like that make waves )
Always liked this one. Attitude with tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Fun. I need to explore dropped D tuning.
Definitely a song of its time, lyrically.
Jealousy next, I'm a life long queen fan, no matter what you think of the song, the penultimate jealousy, in my opinion, is my favourite note he does. Great reactions, love your honesty.
Yes am in anticipation. Guitar in Jealousy, like a veena in Indian music.

What fat arse decided to do that😊?

Only Freddie could get away with singing a naughty song like this.

Fat Bottomed Girls - by Brian May
John Deacon: Bass
Brian May: Backing vocals and electric guitar
Freddie Mercury: Lead and backing vocals
Roger Taylor: Drums
i just kicked back and sang along with this one (albeit I was quite out of tune as always). Thanks for your reaction.
you know that beat, you slow it down or speed it up and it wouldnt be the same stomping

It is questionable if its implying abuse
Brian said there is a darker theme to the song but didn't elaborate
Big fat Fanny, the nanny, made a bad boy out of Brian :)@@bluebell3720
When are you doing the Taylor Swift discography? 🐾🐾🐾
Queen and I parted company after A Day at the Races. Hated this in 1978 and here we are 46 years later....my opinion hasn't changed😂
Love it !!!!! 6th!

I think they mean Jazz as in Roger's song "More of", i.e. more of that "stuff"! (a tip to how eclectic this album is?)
@@betseyclark2832I'm just having fun with the concept.
