I like Ray's new arc of playing 20 year old games commonly called some of the greatest of all time and discovering that they are, in fact, pretty good

I love that in the master collection they even acknowledge the disc change, when it gets to that point, when it would prompt you to put the second disc in it just does a digtal video of a disc swap which was funny
Fun Fact. During the Hind D fight if you call the Colonel he tells you can hear where he is... Unless you're playing on a Mono TV. The game proceeds to make fun of you for playing on a Mono TV

Fun fact: Only one of the voice actors appear in this game with their own name. The one was David Hayter. Video games were a new thing and people were worried that being in one would hurt their career. Most if not all of them did return to their roles in Twin Snakes but this time using their real names.
Having watched years of Ray's VODs of playthroughs, this playthrough of Metal Gear Solid has become one of my instant favorites. Plenty of cool and funny moments.
It's always a blast to see Ray try out games for the first time, and even greater when he's enjoying himself!
It's crazy that this game is 26 years old, and it's better designed, with a better story, than 99 percent of modern games.
You mean the fact that basically all modern tactical/war shooters are completely identical to eachother, are broken messes, and have the shortest campaigns ever? Yeah... there's a reason Lethal Company outsold CoD.
I would love to see mgs2 and 3 in the future.

These games have randomizers? Seeing as how these are all mostly linear games, I'm not quite sure how that would work...

@@nataliecameron and re games have you in a single location that you are constantly backtracking in. MGS games are linear and have you changing locations constantly, at least in the later ones.
Idk I just don't see how randomizers make much sense in linear games.
@@DorrajMGS 1-3 make sense for a randomizer. 1 and 3's maps maybe somewhat linear, but you can backtrack to pretty much any area and they branch off a bit. 2's map is literally a circle for the most part.
Great game one of my all time favourites, i never thought i would ever see Ray play it i'm so happy he did, you got to play the rest of the main series ray :)

I always found it funny that Snake just pops Valium like candy. Dude would OD so hard he'd be more limp than Ditto.
It lasts decently long in game, Ray was just popping them like candy lol
I like how Kojima's batshit insane trap placement caused a bunch of this playthrough to just have a red virtual boy filter due to Ray's fear of being blown up.
I do hope he checks out The Twin Snakes one day as he says he might. His reactions to those cutscenes would be some amazing content.
Especially the backflip off the rockets
I can't wait to hopefully see Ray play through MGS3, probably my favorite one.
Imagine running out of chaff grenades before entering the room with a gazillion gun cameras and it's your first time playing the game.
I love metal gear so much, so absurd but so good. I really hope Ray plays more of the series.

MGS2 has its own good story beats and advancements but his community can do him a huge service by pushing MGS3 before 2 if he does do one more Metal Gear game. It is it's own standalone story and has a ton of modern improvements he'd probably click with a lot more than 2.
Ray's also played MGS2 years ago, whereas he'd be going into MGS3 totally blind (I think)
@@Kaneland2014He said on one of these streams he watched a friend streaming 3, so it wouldn't be totally blind. Based on how he basically didn't mention them at all, I feel like 5 and Peacewalker are probably the two he knows the least about story wise.
3 is way more slow than the others so I'm not entirely sure he'd enjoy it. The others you could get away with mild stealth but 3 pretty much requires you to stealth your way through it.
Also I don't trust his twitch chat for anything, they can't even listen to dialogue for more than 60 seconds before they cry "they still yapping?"
It's a freakin MGS game. Yes they're still yapping. That's the whole point of this series.
Ideally he plays them all tbh. 2 is a lot meaner about detections as the riot crew are good at ruining your day. Plus Yell Dead Cell is still the best boss theme in the series.
3 just has the benefit of better controls and the free 3rd person camera movement.
I really wish the Big Chungus bit at the end was here, please add it to the monthly highlight, you reaction was so good.

its funny because ketchup originated as an east-asian fish sauce brought to europe and the colonies by dutch and spanish traders, and went through numerous evolutions of different vegetables and mushrooms. tomato was actually the last to reach mass-market because the acidic tomatoes would leech poison out of the cans it was stored in during transport, until alternative processes were found. it is also wholely american in its current iteration.
Ray playing PS1 games is a combo as great as peanut butter and jelly.
I remember as a kid how mind blown all the twists and turns were and emotional the betrayals were. Now, it’s just so cheesy I couldn’t help but just laugh along with everyone in the chat and Ray’s reactions 😂😂😂😂

I am SO happy to see Ray genuinely enjoy this game. He even seems to be mostly paying attention to the cutscenes! Makes a grown man cry.
I know he mentioned possibly adding more MGS games in the next sub goals, but my dream is this is another Yakuza for him and he just plays the rest of the games for fun. Not gonna happen, but a man can dream! 🥲

As someone who never had any real interest in the Metal Gear series, I seriously want to pick it up after watching this playthrough.
Really loved the metal gear playthrough, hope we get to see Ray play more metal gear games in the future (aside from revengeance)

Throw a grenade into Rex? Shoot Liquid? Stun grenade? Stinger to the rail gun? Nakita into the leg? Tell Liquid he has the dominate genes? Start going on and on about how their father never loved them? About the poor childhood they had? Or, plot twist, about the AMAZING childhood Solid had to make Liquid jealous and focus on him? Tell Liquid that all of this is happening in 1998, which is the same year as when the Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell in a Cell down sixteen feet into the announcer's table while JR shout's "Baw Gawd! That man had a family!"? I know this is scripted, but still, a few options.
I really hope Ray plays MGS 3 and 4, too.

Also the twin snakes vwrsion has a lot of quality of life updates to it. I played it on the GameCube of all consoles about 13 times and remember the switching to the keycard wasn't a thing, free aim up and down, tranquilizer gun, amongst other things.

Personally, I didn't think the final shirtless fight was so much difficult as it is just kinda janky. Which I guess makes it difficult but more in a tech limitation way than intentional design sort of way I think.
