Weller earned his status as a legend the old school way... endless gigging and refining his stagecraft... in the same elite songwriter tier as Ray Davis and Steve Marriot. A true great.
Paul Weller is a LEGEND !!! Amazing that it's almost 40 years ago that the Style Council played Live Aid at the "old" Wembley Stadium....seems like yesterday (July 13, 1985)
@@apollovs With that song, he predicted the fall of the Berlin Wall. BandAid and LiveAid, of which he was part of, played a major role in creating a favourable atmosphere for Gorbatchev to successfully move forward with the reforms that would ultimately lead to that historic event.
Paul played at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea last summer,,,, it was without exception the best show I've ever seen, him and the band just smashed out song after song,, so much energy, truly an artist at the top of his game.
This is incredible. Love the arrangements on My Ever Changing Moods and Shout to the Top - two of my absolute favorites. Much respect, thanks for posting.
Great gig this was. I was sat pretty high up in the rafters so its good to actually SEE the gig, I could hear it as the sound was amazing. Having the horns trio in his band brought a new dimension to all his songs. An excellent gig. Shame they didn't get to play longer as so many good songs were missed.
Thanks for sharing. I normally don't understand people that record concerts rather than enjoy the moment. But, if you didn't post this, I would never had a chance to see this fantastic set by Paul. I live in the states and he very rarely comes around my way. I think 2017 was the last chance I had to see him live.
Any track from any album is good but every one of these is just brilliant- a set of career highlights - and still interesting and relevant . Wild to me that he’s my age and still writing playing singing and touring and aging with real grace.
Long live PW! Paul Weller is a OG! Love his voice. Don’t understand why he never caught on here in America but he has made some wonderful music for the last 50 years! Yes, I adored the Style Council 😊
I was there and you can’t compare the two artists/ group they are two different vibes. I am a passionate weller fan but tbh blur blew me away what a gig 🎉
Often seems to be the way with artists who have been around a long time that their original and earliest songs, in this case the Jam, always seem to get the most enthusiastic reception.
I know his "retired" sound tech, of many many years. He lives in Germany now next door neighbour to my mate.Andrew says Paul WELLER is a proper gent. smokes a bit too much, but always has time for people and is a thoroughly nice guy. Good to know :) Also a damn legend.
@@ronnyber Then clearly you have led a very sheltered big gig life. They all can’t play at the same time chief. Blur brought Weller in as a guest at a huge gig because they recognise his influence on their music. So many people wetting their pants about this. Just enjoy the fact that he was there…
I went Saturday night to see Blur...gutted when I heard the 'Modfather' was supporting Blur on the Sunday. For those arguing Paul Weller should be main act, he was just guest act supporting Blur on their huge tour. Love them both.
Exactly and being a guest doesn't always relate to size of the artist of anything. He's probably just doing it for a mate, something I know he's experienced himself as I remember many many years ago when he played Plymouth and had Noel Gallagher show up last minute and support him unannounced , playing a set of Oasis songs (plus some Jam and Beatles covers) when Oasis were just about the biggest band in Britain at the time. 1998 I think it was.
@@MJMilz14I was at a Charlatans gig in Brixton years ago and Weller came on stage and did just a song or two. I just think he loves performing and will support acts he likes and probably knows their crowd will appreciate him.
His absolute hatred of the Jam and any thought of doing a one-off for the long time loyal fans at RAH turns me off from the absolute wallpaper music he makes today.

Weller is a legend....but could not fill Wembley on his own.....Blur are showing respect by having him on the Bill.....let’s be honest he’s a massive influence on them. Great line up.
I've loved Paul since the Jam...this was a great show, but I am surprised and disappointed to see that the production or video folks for this show used the idiotic smart phone vertical video window. It makes for a really cheesy looking stage set, to be honest. Also makes Imag ineffective AF, you can only see one player at a time with the narrow ass screens. Stop it!! It is stupid enough on a phone, don't spread it to the real world. Video screens are wider than they are high to match your vision. This is like peeking between fence boards.
I'm a Japanese woman who recently became his fan.🇯🇵 I can't wait for him to come to Japan next February. He is my Star.Thank you for this Live Video!

Yes he did, and many of us already know it but time will show Damon Albarn is an elite songwriter also.
I'd put him above Davies and especially Marriot in status and accomplishment.
Very true and Marriot is Weller, look at how he performs, it's all there..
Paul Weller is a British treasure

It’s fairly obvious that a lot of songs were missed…he has literally hundreds. He was only on for just under an hour as a special guest support.

Thank you for uploading this. PW IMO is the greatest musician of ALL TIME. But to see him as an opening act for anyone just seems to bizarre to me.
Weird isn’t it 🤷♂️

The thumbnail for this video looks like Jimmy Saville 🤠

Changing man thanks Elo - 10538 Overture.
He seems to play more old songs these days. He must have mellowed a bit.
