It was all part of Joey's plan. He knew that his dad had an unhealthy obsession with Jason, after recovering so many of his victims, that it wouldn't take much to push his dad over the line. He ever bought the mask with the blue chevrons on them, and gave it to his dad as a gift for Father's Day, a year before he would be sent away, because he was eating more than Roy could afford on the salary of paramedic in a one horse town. The only time he got any real business was when Jason would kill. Joey even asked his dad one day that if anyone ever killed him, would he avenge his death, like Jason's mom avenged her son's death. Joey was the mastermind of it all. He happily took those axe blows, because it knew it would actually give his dad some purpose, other than having a lousy job in a shitty town with a chocolate eating monster. But he had no way of knowing that anyone would discover his father's hidden weakness, that he could be killed by nearly anything. Especially spikes. RIP Roy, and FU Joey, for getting Vic arrested.

This movie was worth it for the outhouse scene alone. Hands down the most entertaining kill in the entire franchise.

Friday the 13th V gets an undeserved bad rap. It’s a solid horror movie with good kills and a not unrealistic progression of a copycat killer. Granted he isn’t a copycat in the traditional sense but more someone just using the legend to cover his crimes but still.
The age you were when you saw this definitely affects how you view this movie... saw this when I was 13 (go figure) in ‘85 back when you could spend half the day hopping from theater to theater to watch everything for the price of one ticket ... I loved it..
I didn't start watching the series until I was an adult, but I quickly became a fan. This one must've been pretty mind blowing, haha.
or when you got FREE HBO for a month...that's how I saw a lot of R rated movies back then...even a few Friday the 13th ones.
I first saw this as a 15 year old in the mid 90’s on cable. By that time I only had seen parts 4 and 6. I thought it was a strange and interesting movie. The Jason imposter angle didn’t bother me. Over the years it slowly crawled its way to being in my top 5.
I was ten. It was my first Friday.
i was around 13 as well. i saw the first four before so i was a little disappointed there was no jason (but like…come on… it’s basically jason). i love how funny it is and how sleazy it is to this day. the characters are fuckin’ amazing too, probably the best in the franchise.
I didn't really care for this one on first viewing, but it's definitely grown on me over time. It stands out from most of the other ones. If you want to watch a Friday the 13th movie that is just pure sleaze, this one delivers, lol.

One of my favorites. Everyone leaves out that along with Miguel Nunuez, Mark Venturini, who plays Vic in this movie also plays Suicide in Return of the Living Dead. “You think this is a fuckin' costume? This is a way of life!”

This movie has absolutely stood the test of time for me personally. Despite its long list of undeniable flaws, it has some of my favorite characters, kills, non kill scenes, and humor of the franchise and has one of the best scores as well. It’s an admirably shameless, endlessly fun wild demented ride and one of my top 5 (sometimes top 3) fav Fridays.

I remember watching this on a family beach trip. It definitely grew on me with time, especially the crazy characters like Ethel.

As a kid o hated this entry due to the whole copycat angle. But as a grown up now I’ve learned to appreciate it more. The side characters in this movie are among the best in the entire series. Edna is the absolute best. “Don’t you touch me sheriff. I got a bomb on me I swear to ya”

The reaction to this Friday the 13th movie was very similar to the reaction of Halloween 3 1982.
Halloween 3 though is a great standalone movie.

Nothing better summarizes modern film criticism better than talking about how this movie about teenagers getting hacked up is not sensitive enough to people with mental health issues

I love this movie IDGAF what anyone says! It's so campy and corny and re-watchable, the characters are so quirky and fun, and dont forget the Reggie the Reckless scream!

Me too! It's in my top five! The characters are the best and most memorable in the whole franchise, and when it comes to horror movies, memorable characters are everything!

Roy the character De Guain played is one of two non-Jason killers in this franchise, this channel the original killer is Jason's mother.

This is one of my favorites thanks to Melanie Kinnaman as Pam, Shavar Ross as Reggie, Deborah Voorhees as Tina & Anthony Barrile as Vinnie.
Its one of the best. If it wasn't roy being the killer, i bet this would be one of the best fridays according to the fans.

2 things the narrator said that need correction:
1. Reggie’s brother is called Demon, not D-Man.
2. Roy Burns is not the franchise’s only non-Jason killer. How could the narrator not make it a point to know her subject? Jason’s mother was the killer in part 1.

I think some of the other ones have better kills. Part 5 has some stand out moments for sure, it just sucks that they were censored so heavily. At least it wasn't censored as badly as Parts 7 and 8.

Agreed. Story was weird, you can't go down that far in sequels without straying off course. But the one redeeming factor for Friday movies are the kills.

Richard Young who plays Matt also plays ‘Fedora’ who inspires Indiana Jones in The Last Crusade.
At times, I felt that the Italians were waaay more interesting in their approach of copying whatever genre was popular at the time and dictating the output from low budget studios/companies overseas. They gave zombies a good run in the early part of the 80's, made some fun Road Warrior/Escape From New York entries, and did well with Commando Rambos and whatnot. With the slasher filcks, I felt like they didn't utilize the concept enough. I don't necessarily count Giallo films as just Slasher flicks, despte Giallo being considered the forerunner to the Slasher boom (and rightly so, for the most part). Sure....the gore was prominent in almost every subgenre, and remained a selling point. But I can only recall a few "slasher" films that remained prominent from Italian filmmmakers combined with Spanish/West German/French producers. But the few we got were pretty great to watch......
Hell....even Jess Franco gave us a decent picture in the subgenre with Bloody Moon.
D'Amato and George Eastman blended genres with The Grim Reaper and it's "sort of"sequel, Absurd. Not a bad film, to be honest...even if it is a sort of hack job. Super happy you mentioned it.
Argento had quite a few in his more modern Giallo films like Opera....
I think Stage Fright (Michaele Saovi?, I want to say) is the best example of an Italian Slasher film, if we are to go by certain guidlines.

I'm a huge Friday the 13th fan. I think part 5 is actually a good addition. It was all good til the ending and people got upset bc it wasn't Jason. I like the who dunnit aspect and its the most like the original in that way. My personal favorite is part 4 andi love watching 4 then 5 then 6 dubbed the Tommy Jarvis saga. It has Jason though in spirit......literally.
Friday the 13th movies don’t take a downward turn until part 8 when somehow a secluded lake leads Jason onto an ocean liner that for some reason is taking some teenagers to Manhattan from New Jersey. There are much easier and faster ways to get to NY from anywhere in NJ.

When Roy Burns heard about Jason, Roy Burns aspired to be like Jason. But when Jason heard about Roy Burns, Jason aspired to be like Roy Burns… This explains why Jason comes back as a complete badass in part 6 lol.
Roy Burns was impressive in this movie but he never was on Jason’s level before or after Jason’s resurrection. Jason had a murder spree that lasted almost a week all while surviving a machete lodged deep in his shoulder, being hung by his neck, AND an axe hacked into his head. Even while battle damaged he still was capable of remaining stealthy, and annihilating a whole entire group of vacationers, even crushing a couple people’s heads with his bare hands. Before meeting his demise at the hands of Tommy, Jason killed no less than 33 people in under a week.
It does IF your one of those people who actually have an open mind and don't just instantly cry like a toddler about Roy and, it not having Jason in the movie.. If you just watch it for what it is, the movie is entirely enjoyable.
I think we need to reevaluate paramedics. I mean, the guy at the end of H20 was a paramedic and he flew out a car windshield and got crushed by a van and was still ready to party. Old Roy from Friday 5 was taking damage, lifting adults up by their neck, doing various Jason stuff. Bottom line, paramedics work out and are ready to snap.

I will fight anyone, ANYONE, that tries to deny this movie is outstanding. It's basically a remake of the first film, and it's a damn good one too.

Ethel Hubbard and her dimwit son Junior are two of the most memorable supporting characters in the entire franchise. I love this movie. Oh and Miguel Nunez isn’t the only Return of the Living Dead alum in this film. Mark Venturini, who played Vic, also played Suicide in that movie.
Violets scene in her room dancing to There is a man with no light in his eyes , makes this movie for me ! Loved her character so much !
This is the essential Friday the 13th the best in the series. I'm a hardcore fanatic of the entire franchise.

Saw the original at the drive-in summer of 1980 I was 10.
Saw them all in chronological order as they were released.
New beginning I saw opening night shortly after my fifteenth birthday.
Very first already movie I seen without the accompanied by an adult.
It was like a baptism into being a teenager.
Opening night in the theater was solded out.
It was like attending a rock concert... alcohol and joints were being past everywhere.
There were cheers and yells with every kill or every scene of gratuitous nudity.
I have never had such a better time watching a movie then with new beginning....
It was 1985, I was young and the TIMES WERE GLORIOUS!! ❤
I saw it when I was about twelve years old.. 87ish. I thought it was pretty good! It wasn't the best movie ever by far, but it was kinda creepy and interesting.
This goes back to the first one in that it's a who done it horror story. I always liked it for that.
I like Friday Part 5. It gives birth to Friday Part 6. If not for this one we wouldn't have gotten the critically liked Part 6.
If I want to watch part 6 I have to watch 5 first it's a weird ritual of mines it sets up unstoppable zombie jason so perfect once he step out of that grave with that piece of that gate as a weapon you zone in 💪🏾

I always thought the guy running the home for the teens should've been the killer, with his plan to frame it on Tommy. That would've been way more shocking in my opinion.

You know I actually liked this entry in the series its something different similar, roy took revenge for those he felt was responsible for his sons murder,(even though he didnt kill the guy who did it) kinda similar to what Pamela voorhees did in the first movie, but for someone who wasn't jason roy did things that would be hard for someone to do like the kills he did also throwing another grown man in a window, getting up after being hit with a bulldozer, going through a door and turning it into pieces. His costume was also unique and it would make sense to pretend to be a killer that already exist and put the blame on someone else.

the fact that the Mask is totally different should have told people that his was not "THEIR" Jason, and other hints. also if this was a series it wouldn't have hurt to throw this in..it kinda plaued out like an episode if not for the length.
The fact that it’s not Jason will always disappoint me. But, I think the movie is entertaining for sure.

Glad you acknowledge what I've been saying for years .. Love it or hate it.. Especially the twist.. This Friday entry is the most Friday the 13th of the entire series everything are told.. Sex, drugs, gore are all at the highest level here .. some elements were present in others . But later entries were a bit more muted and even neutered by the mpaa.
I have a soft spot for this entry 😊
This is probably the most underrated sequel in the series. Suspenseful and funny.

Highly highly underrated
This movie touched on Evil being infectious long before Halloween Ends. If they had made it more of a mystery, incorporated Roy more into the cast, and didn't give him away in the beginning, this could have been a lot more satisfactory. But it's still one of my favorites.
I don't think the movie is all that bad. I hold it in the same category as Halloween III: Season of the Witch, except this film is still a part of the original Paramount Pictures continuity (I do not consider the New Line Cinema films as part of this canon.) Despite the fact that Roy is the Killer, Jason IS actually in this movie in both dream and hallucination form.
I appreciate that they tried something different, however they somewhat dropped the ball when it comes to the Logic in Roy's motivation. They are clearly drawing inspiration from Pamela Voorhees' story but there was logic in her murder spree. Roy never took revenge on Vic at all. He went after innocent bystanders who had nothing to do with what happened and the teenagers who were clearly mourning for his son's death. I could see him taking issue with Matt Letter or Pam for allowing someone like Vic in their program, aside from that I don't care for the one-dimensional "he just snapped" excuse. Even someone who has snapped would not allow their child's killer to continue breathing. Maybe if the writers had "Jason" deal with Vic, I could buy into the unhinged Roy shifting his anger over to the staff and kids of the Pinehurst House when they reveal everything in the film's epilogue.
People love to question why didn’t Roy go after Vic. Well, Vic is locked up and that would mean breaking into whatever precinct they have him in, and get past countless cops armed with GUNS in order to get to him. Roy would’ve stood no chance.
@@williemakeit2346 That's why you have to get creative with the writing. There are possibilities to get Vic out of that precinct in transport to a county lock-up which makes him an open target.
@@TONYGILLEY Roy would have to somehow get the drop on them during transport, which in itself would be an incredibly difficult feat without explosives being involved. Otherwise I definitely couldn’t see Roy breaking into county. Nice premise tho, would’ve elevated the movie.
I really enjoyed Friday the 13th Part 5, i have always loved it, loved the twist, and really enjoyed how they tried to continue the continuity in the franchise. Screw the haters! lol

Friday the 13th part 5 A New Beginning is the very first Friday the 13th movie i remember seeing and watching on TV 📺 HBO and Cinemax when i was a kid because i remember HBO and Cinemax showing this movie so much back then so yea this movie definitely brings back childhood memories for me every time i watch it now 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning is not as bad as it is often made out to be. It is a daring and original sequel that offers a different perspective on the iconic character of Jason Voorhees. It is also a fun and thrilling ride that delivers on the blood and scares that fans love. It is worth giving this film another chance and rewatching it with an open mind.
First of all, the film is a bold and creative attempt to explore the psychological effects of surviving a traumatic encounter with Jason. The protagonist, Tommy Jarvis, is haunted by nightmares and hallucinations of Jason, and his sanity is constantly tested by the violent events around him. The film also introduces some interesting themes, such as the cycle of revenge, the nature of identity, and the role of masks in hiding one's true self.
Secondly, the film is a fun and entertaining slasher that delivers on the gore and kills that fans expect from the genre. The film has a high body count, with 22 deaths, and some inventive and brutal methods of dispatching the victims, such as a road flare in the mouth, a pair of garden shears to the eyes, and a belt around the head that crushes the skull. The film also has some humorous moments, such as a character singing to himself in an outhouse before being killed, or a character who thinks he is talking to Jason when he is actually talking to a parrot.

I wish fans gave this sequel more of a chance. The copy-cat Jason might've worked out. Instead we got the zombie Jason, that got old after part 7.

This was the first Friday movie ever saw back in 5th grade. So it has a special place for me.
What I love about part 5 is the story and background too it doesn't really explain much in the film but with Friday the 13th the game pieces everything together nicely

For me it does. I like this movie, its a fun watch :)
I just revisited it last night on Bluray, and im really coming around on it. It's kind of a "yes, but" film. The production design is great, and some of the shots are really good, but some of the shots feel lazy and rushed. The casting is great, and many of the actors are giving solid, committed performances; but the characters are weak and aren't given much to do. The premise is interesting, but every scene feels padded, if it has a point at all. It seems like some really competent people showed up and tried hard, but the writers and director didn't give them much to work with.
F13 5 has moved up my franchise rankings every year. I have come to appreciate this movie.
Roy isn't the first "non Jason" killer, but he is the first non Vorhees.
And to this day it still kills me that no one brings up the stinger ending where they set up Tommy as the new Jason. It would have been a fun angle for the franchise to take (And don't get me wrong I love Jason in all of his bloody awesomeness) if they kept the stinger ending and did something with Tommy being overwhelmed by the trauma and becoming the new Jason. Hell they could even use the possession angle from Final Friday to bring back the real Jason (And yes I know final Friday is later in the series and not thought of at that point but the idea would've come up eventually regardless) thus bringing it back to our good ole Mr Vorhees. I'm a die hard Jason Fanboy and love the random directions the later movies take, and part 6 is close to my heart as the first Friday film I saw, but I still want to see Tommy Jason so bad
People crapped on part 5 back when we thought the series was capable of better. We were right for exactly one more movie. Now that the series is pretty much complete and we know what we're dealing with, we can look back and pretend the impostor twist doesn't exist in order to enjoy what's otherwise peak 80's Friday.
I didn't like this one.This is the M.Night Shyamalan of the Friday the 13th series, just because in the end it turns out not to be Jason.Such a bait and switch move left me completely uninterested in the movie.
Honestly its a good horror movie.. But I hate its not really Jason doing the killing so it makes me like it a lil less

The Friday sequels aged better than the Halloween sequels/requels
If Jason was in the movie this would have been one of the better entries in the series. I will say this portrayal of Tommy is a much better and realistic performance than what we got in part 6. Tommy would have been severely mentally damaged after the events of part 4.
It's okay kinda fun.
It's not my favorite, but on its own it's not that bad. It's not the worst in the franchise anyway.
