I rescued two four-day-old kittens abandoned by their mother. All the vets told me that it would take a miracle to save their lives... It was hard, I had no experience, but it was wonderful to breastfeed them as if I were their mother: they are now 9 months old. Don't turn away, don't ignore a faint meow, give these defenseless and wonderful creatures a chance. ♥
That is absolutely amazing!!! Thank you so much for saving those newborn kittens!!! I know first hand how difficult it is to hand-rear newborn kittens, and yes, it is very HARD! It's 'round the clock feedings, weighing the babies at the same time each & every day, (and possibly multiple times a day, even)....It's sterilizing everything from the water for the formula, to the nipples, syringes, and bottles, to
not being able to leave your home for long periods of time, and you can forget about going to work, unless you're allowed to bring the babies with you!
You see, I breed Persian and Himalayan kittens, and most people have no clue what I have to go through with every single litter I have. Most people think that momma cat does all the work, but they couldn't be further from the truth. I am up every 2 hours in the middle of the night, weighing them to make sure they are all nursing, and if not, then I have to supplement their feedings with KMR.
I've been breeding since 2015 and there has not been a single litter (for many different reasons), where I didn't have to "intervene" and I had to feed at least 1 (but sometimes even all of the) kittens from each litter, around the clock. It is absolutely EXHAUSTING, but soooo well worth it in the end!
So yes, I see you!! I know what you went through, rescuing those neonates, especially since it was your first time doing this, and I just want you to know that you are very much appreciated for everything you had done, and for all the sacrifices you made in order to save those poor tiny babies! I loved hearing your story and how they are 9 months old now! ❤ I'm assuming you still have them ?

Kittens are very fragile and must get a warm bath also. Be dried of very carefully and be kept warm, stimulated after every feeding, so they can defecate. Thank you and very sorry for the loss of Steel.

I would understand the grief of a mother and the stress of leaving her kitten apparently unable to care for it. Probably thinking it was dead. I thank all who took part (including very knowledgeable vets) and the passerby who observed these events and took the needy kitten to a shelter for saving the kitten. There are many of us (I would have done the same) who understand that as very animal caring individuals that at times we must intercept nature and try to save creatures that cannot control their environments . Every animal cannot be saved and this is just life. But those we can certainly believe it is worthwhile to turn these single (without mothers) animals and take actions to make certain they will experience life in loving and permanent homes. I cannot imgine the grief a mother (animal) must feel when nothing they do will save their young.

I am always baffled about the reasons why a mummy cat would abandon her baby, particularly a newborn kitten in the cold. Thanks to the good samaritan who rescued these kittens. I am so sorry that the first kitten did not survive. Nevertheless, he/she was able to experience loving care before for a little while before departing. Little Pangpang is a joy to watch as he explores his environment. Good girl Bubble for taking on a motherly role to Pangpang.
The mother cat probably sensed Steel wouldn’t survive. He got more time than he would have, though.
When queens sense that one of their kits is unwell and unlikely to make it, they'll abandon the kitten to save milk for their other kittens. Some queens will even cannibalize the kits as nutrients to feed the other, healthy kits. Sometimes, finding these unwell kittens means they can be saved through human intervention...but that's not always the case and there is fading kitten syndrome.
Así es, muy sabia y linda reflexión. Efectivamente Steel experimentó amor y muchos cuidados, no murió de hambre o frío solo en la calle, tuvo la oportunidad de ser tratado con cariño, bondad y respeto, claro que es lamentable que no la haya logrado pero un grupo de personas luchó por él. Qué alegría que Pangpang lo haya logrado. Muchas felicidades a cada uno de los ángeles que intervienen para cuidar, salvar y atender a todos los animalitos en estas circunstancias!
