Aaah this networking shenanigans and mentorship things are a nightmare. I just want to show up for work and just go home abeg 😢..it’s so sad that cooperate has glorified extrovertness and if you’re not that you’re left behind. 🤬

I feel like mentorship and networking are corporate speak for gatekeeping. Some people just like to do the work and go home. Socialization is not for everyone and we are making fish climb trees and it's stiffling. Jane and Judith should think about being leaders who recognize this change mindsets. You'll see how people will have a spank when showing up at work without being expected to be seen

This!!! A great leader recognizes the strength of a diverse team. Diversity also applies in people’s personalities, business chemistry, strengths and so on. Imagine measuring everyone’s contribution based on one yardstick. This mentality makes workplaces breeding grounds for a lot of inauthenticity and a lot of big and empty talk.

    • @kashbish9887

Absolutely hate it. Those of us who like to keep our heads down and run with it are overlooked and assumed to be poor performers. In fact the louder you are at work, the more disposable you're likely to be, if only the powers that be looked closely. I just want to be allowed to emit Francesca Bridgerton energy without stress.

I think the issue is we don't have person-centred mentorship and networking - tailored to the specific employee. Most mentorship and networking opportunities are created to build competition. I had a former boss who mentored me but she allowed me to suggest ways I needed mentorship rather than her taking the lead. I remember the first thing she told me is "I am not trying to make you an extrovert or push you to be like others in the team so you can get higher positions". She allowed me to express where I needed support without the pressure of feeling like if I didn't take her advice, I would never climb the ladder. I honestly appreciated that kind of mentorship and now I try to use the same for other people

I loved Judies advice on working hard when you are young, full of energy and have the time. That is definitely what I would tell my younger self too! Now I am older and have less energy and a ton of responsibility outside of work. Do it afraid and do a a super job so that people speak about you in rooms you are not! Loved loved that!

White men also move with the belief that they are the superior race. That gives them audacity.
There is a debate video i watched, recorded in the 1950s pitring different students from across the world on different topics.
Seeing how the Ethiopian students had audacity stemming from a simple fact that they are an uncolonized African country..and they felt they are marginally better than the rest of Africa.
In a nutshell self belief stems from nurture and experiences.
