Sophia ask him "what is that supposed to mean?" and AJ says, "go ahead and call the cops I dont care, see you in the next life." I believe that he is AJ and he is planning to kill himself or know that he is about to die. I think the other guy that showed up at the grave is a real person and he knows AJ from jail or a foster home. AJ told the guy about his family at some point. AJ owes the guy money or something and the guy is looking for him. Probably to kill him. AJ went for a walk to meet up with the other guy that's why he didn't want Sophie to go.

The theory that it is the real one may be correct because during the scene where Sophia took a nap on his bed the look he gave her was one of longing, not brotherly love. Also, there was the scene where he gazed longingly at the bed later while in the apartment alone. It was almost as if he wished he had made a move. I have always found that I interesting and foreboding. Although the Matt son theory is interesting. I have to look back to see if in previous seasons there was any clues dropped. It would make for a great storyline.

I believe her real son was never locked up, and he was free the entire time just watching from afar. The AJ that was locked up was an opportunist that took advantage of the situation. The first AJ constantly speaks about researching the families life and their habits. I believe the first AJ stole the seconds identity(imposter) to have a better life and receive money, but the 2nd is her real son and he likely killed the 1st AJ that's why he is on the property. The 1st AJ was also eager to go back to prison, even Grace said he is hiding something, and that's simply because he wanted to protect himself from the real AJ.

I think the second AJ is the real one and the 1st AJ was hired by Faith And Harmony.Because when Sofia told AJ that he's her brother and nothing will change that,AJ said one thing will and I think is the fact that he is not Grace biological son also AJ was staying in a rehab owned by Faith an Harmony..When 2nd AJ tells Grace that everything has an end I think to some extent he meant 1st AJ's lies and Faith And Harmony devious ways to get the church...Also 1st AJ is feeling guilty for everything he has done to Grace after finding out she's a good person.
Okay just to add a new twist and now it makes sense. everyone's asking how could this young man get on the grounds, he's with Noah, Noah was showing him the grounds and Noah was probably talking with security because Noah was security. I think the other AJ is an impostor and someone that needed help, remember all he wanted was money from Grace he never expected to meet her at all, all he wanted was money. Do you find it interesting that Grace never mentioned Noah to AJ, and on the flipside AJ never mention Noah to Grace, think about? I think Grace was so upset with her giving up her son that she was going to believe anything and everything AJ said and did because of her feeling guilty. Remember Noah said he was coming back to get to know his son, therefore AJ knew how to get in contact with his son, and that's what he did, and that's where he's been all this time. But remember AJ went to his mom some years back and Grace turned him away. Grace will still recognize him. Besides there are a few things missing from this season, I just thought Noah's absence was one of them. Somehow that's not AJ. My opinion.

If you watch the movie closely, while Grace is still praying, AJ-2 can be seen a long way away, in the background, walking toward her. Point being that he did NOT just appear like a spirit. We, the viewer, saw him coming, but not Grace, until he stepped out from behind the Bush. Likewise, he doesn’t suddenly disappear. You can see him walking the length of the fence in the background. He really gave me the creeps though!
Based on a series called “Sneaky Pete”, I can see him being the real AJ. The first/fakeAJ could’ve been his cell mate, so he knew the family from listening to stories. The fake AJ could’ve been a con man and was able to steal the real Aj’s identity. I remember him telling Grace that he couldn’t tell her why he did certain things and said something along the lines of it making sense later or she’ll understand it later.

One of the issues that have me puzzled is that AJ had prescription meds in his bag. You can't steal prescription over the counter. Hopefully that will be explained at some point.
Here's why i think the "young man" is the real Aj. When Noah wife found out about AJ, Noah said he coming into town to be with son. Where was Noah?? The whole time fake Aj was there?? My guess would be he was with the real AJ aka young man.
The current AJ did alood to Sofia that he was holding a secret. I think both boys met in jail OR foster care. I think the guy allowed, the AJ we know, to use Grace to get back on his feet and now the guy is now forcing him to do stuff to repay him for the favor. That is why, the AJ we know, is so hell bent on turning himself in because he does not want to live like that and he feels that if he just removes himself by going back to jail, at least he will be safe from having to pay this guy back. He coulda just stayed gone but he is not as heartless as the guy/the real AJ.
Emeraldkut I like your theory but at this point it doesn’t hold up against what has happen so far in the story . There are scenes of AJ with Grace where he exhibits extreme hurt and abandonment issues. If he was faking that he deserves an Oscar. I hope all our questions are answered in the next episodes.
@ejf1007 That could be explained away as displaced hurt. He could have been speaking to her in that manner be she like his mom, if not her, gave her son up too. Therefore, even it was not her, he may have felt okay with expressing his pain with her cause she may have caused her son similar pain.

I was kind of spot on with Grace and her brother when it came out. I’m going to try my luck with this one. I think the first AJ is her real son. The one that popped out of the woods could’ve been an Angel or was the one who really did the robbery. He could have ties to him from being in the system for all them years. Maybe a foster brother. Either way, he’s familiar with that Greenleaf family. He called Grace name.
I think he is both Grace real son and an angel. One of my theories is he is Grace real son but maybe died or something. This explains how he appeared and left so quickly. The guy AJ isn't her real son. He maybe saw the real son die and assumed his identity or even killed him . After meeting them he had a change of heart because of what he did. As far as Jacob and Charissa I think she may end up pregnant. And her and Jacob will part ways and eventually he seeks out Tasha and they end up together hopefully. Charity and Phil I believe want be a couple. He's going to go back to his wife. The bishop and may will get Calvary back.
AJ has been making comments of suicide and has characteristics of possibly going through with it but is hesitant. When he left Sofia the first time he said "I'll see you on the other side." The pills look like his way of suicide. He doesn't seem to have a significant reason to live however, he has remorse for causing any future heartache and pain for Sofia. Thus, why he came back. He seems to be searching for his lifeline at the same time that's what he keeps coming back or not completely leaving. The person that shows up at the end seems like the angel telling Grace to go save AJ because he is about to die.

He probably met the real AJ in prison, got out, stole his identity and trying to live his best life, but he's I'll and has a conscious now. Hmmm this is a good one... and it kind of incorporates a bunch of different theories.
The theory that it is the real one may be correct because during the scene where Sophia took a nap on his bed the look he gave her was one of longing, not brotherly love. Also, there was the scene where he gazed longingly at the bed later while in the apartment alone. It was almost as if he wished he had made a move. I have always found that I interesting and foreboding.
Although the Matt son theory is interesting. I have to look back to see if in previous seasons there was any clues dropped. It would make for a great storyline.

I believe the first AJ stole the seconds identity(imposter) to have a better life and receive money, but the 2nd is her real son and he likely killed the 1st AJ that's why he is on the property. The 1st AJ was also eager to go back to prison, even Grace said he is hiding something, and that's simply because he wanted to protect himself from the real AJ.

If you watch the movie closely, while Grace is still praying, AJ-2 can be seen a long way away, in the background, walking toward her. Point being that he did NOT just appear like a spirit. We, the viewer, saw him coming, but not Grace, until he stepped out from behind the Bush. Likewise, he doesn’t suddenly disappear. You can see him walking the length of the fence in the background. He really gave me the creeps though!

Based on a series called “Sneaky Pete”, I can see him being the real AJ. The first/fakeAJ could’ve been his cell mate, so he knew the family from listening to stories. The fake AJ could’ve been a con man and was able to steal the real Aj’s identity. I remember him telling Grace that he couldn’t tell her why he did certain things and said something along the lines of it making sense later or she’ll understand it later.

One of the issues that have me puzzled is that AJ had prescription meds in his bag. You can't steal prescription over the counter. Hopefully that will be explained at some point.

The current AJ did alood to Sofia that he was holding a secret. I think both boys met in jail OR foster care. I think the guy allowed, the AJ we know, to use Grace to get back on his feet and now the guy is now forcing him to do stuff to repay him for the favor. That is why, the AJ we know, is so hell bent on turning himself in because he does not want to live like that and he feels that if he just removes himself by going back to jail, at least he will be safe from having to pay this guy back. He coulda just stayed gone but he is not as heartless as the guy/the real AJ.

There are scenes of AJ with Grace where he exhibits extreme hurt and abandonment issues. If he was faking that he deserves an Oscar. I hope all our questions are answered in the next episodes.
@ejf1007 That could be explained away as displaced hurt. He could have been speaking to her in that manner be she like his mom, if not her, gave her son up too. Therefore, even it was not her, he may have felt okay with expressing his pain with her cause she may have caused her son similar pain.

AJ has been making comments of suicide and has characteristics of possibly going through with it but is hesitant. When he left Sofia the first time he said "I'll see you on the other side." The pills look like his way of suicide. He doesn't seem to have a significant reason to live however, he has remorse for causing any future heartache and pain for Sofia. Thus, why he came back. He seems to be searching for his lifeline at the same time that's what he keeps coming back or not completely leaving. The person that shows up at the end seems like the angel telling Grace to go save AJ because he is about to die.
