+MrZapparin Dumb is relative though, right? I mean it depends on how you're defining dumb. If akiman23 23 is basing his assessment off of cognitive abilities such as abstract thinking, problem solving, self contemplation, creativity, and using your average human as the standard, then yes most animals are dumb. I love my dog, she's incredibly sweet and I believe she has strong affection for myself and my family, but when comparing intellect I would have to say she's dumb; maybe not by dog standards, but I'm not a dog and I'm making the assessment so I'm using my own standards.

Dr Kaku is a scientist who needs physical proof, however he needs to address the non physical information from many believable sources that seem to open cracks in the mystery of this temporary life. Near death experiences, psychic abilities, first hand reports of UFO and alien visitations etc. All have the ability to change our perceptions of reality.

When he says - he needs more proof - it means he is tending towards existence if afterlife.
But my strong logic for afterlife is that when we all are existing as individuals for once then why can't it be for twice, thrice and more and for always in lot of frequencies. Yes, it can repeat again and again.

+MyworstEnemy Oh please. No one knows anything by the strictest philosophical standards. Thankfully no one uses those standards...unless desperately defending a religion they were brought up on. You don't even have to ask complicated questions to debunk ideas about heaven:
How big is it? How many people are there? How do people get around? Are there chairs? If so, does that mean people get tired in heaven? Do you need to sleep? Is it ever dark? Is it warm? Is it cold? What if I like 70 degrees and you like 60? Do people wear clothes? Do they wear the same clothes every day? If naked, do you become perfectly fit? Can you opt to have more or less hair on your body? How old are you when you get there? When infants die, do they stay in an infantile state? Do you have to eat?
It's pretty obvious that heaven is a fantasy conjured up to protect you from fear of dying. It's nonsense, and you shouldn't believe it's true for the same reason you shouldn't believe that Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are documentaries.

I have also seen him in some talks of god, and he never seems to try to be completely for or against. I feel Michio Kaku is a great educator in that he always shows facts to what we know for certain, but never tries to shove beliefs (ideas that are made to fill in gaps between facts) down our throats, and this is why I have so much respect for him.

There is one thing that a rational person can be certain of and that is that every person and any text that claims knowledge of, proof of, or answers to "all things in the universe" is wrong about that assertion 100% of the time.
"Who is more humble; the scientist who looks at the universe with an open mind and accepts whatever the universe has to teach us, or somebody who says everything in this book must be considered the literal truth and nevermind the falibility of all the human beings involved in the writing of this book?"

The subject of Quran is to introduce God to all human beings of all times places cultures languages, fields etc.scientists are extremely tiny fraction of that. Quran is supposed to introduce God to us and teach us the good way of life so that we live successfully on earth and hearafter. in doing so Quran states some facts about earth, universe and human life and other things around us. So far not a single fact has been proved wrong by any scientist, on the contrary many scientists have embraced Islam when came across those facts. Maurice Bucaille is one of them. That proves truth of religion and God.

The problem with your statement is that you could have easily substituted the word "Quran" with "Old Testement" and made the same case for the Jewish faith. You could also have substitued the word "Quran" with "New Testament" and made the same case for the Christian faith.
Here inlies the problem: all Abrahamic religions suggest that Allah / Yahweh / God is, at best, a coy and fickle being, or at least our limited interpretation does. These religions cannot seem to get along with themselves among different sects let alone coexisting with each other; Reformed Judaism -vs- Orthodox Judaism, Catholic -vs- Protestant, Sunni -vs- Shiite.
I believe that we ALL have historically brought great shame to our faith and dishonor to ourselves in the way that we have treated each other. Muhammad, Moses and Jesus were ALL sons of Abraham. They are brothers! I believe that they would see our behavior towards each other as an utter disgrace, as abject evil, and all done in their name. Shame, shame, shame on all of us!
I believe that our creator cares most about how we treat each other and all of creation than how we practice our ridiculous man-made dogmas. This is the truest test of our worthiness in the eyes of our creator. We are ALL chosen people because we were all born on this beautiful blue spec of dust.
When will come the day that we can all honestly and truly honor Allah / Yahweh / God with the greatest homage that we humans could possibly offer; with respect towards each other, as Father Abraham teaches? When shall we denounce those among us who disgrace by preaching literalism, hate, bigotry, intolerance, misogyny, territorialism and violence? Our greatest honor, our greatest homage should be that of PEACE! Could we start today?
"All you need is love!" -JWL
      -Peace & respect to you.

cristop5 Conscious function is the same for everyone regardless of intelligence. Consciousness is not a result of the brain. The brain just interfaces the consciousness with the physical world. The quality of the interfacing can degrade or be altered but the conscious willful being is the same just what changes is the experience. The biological body with the brain are just tools to operate and experience the physical world and the experience itself is not the same as the soul or the conscious mind. Don't confuse the experience with the experiencer. Don't confuse the brain processing power and memories with the mind's ability to make willful decisions. Just like the user of computer software and the software itself are two separate things is the same way that the conscious willful mind is different than the biological brain.

They have and that's how humans advance. You can't advance in anything if there isn't proof that your statement is true. When someone says something to be true you better be prepared to show evidence. Truth is not bias. Truth stays true no matter who or what is observing. If you state something and cannot prove it you either do not have no evidence, not stating the truth, or delusional.

Boris Alfaro you are confusing a claim with truth. They claim something to be fact and truth when it has been far from proven. You can advance simply by more evidence/data. The existing evidence and data on old ages is far from resulting in any truths as they are very lacking in their modules and have been left to use many assumptions.

Setting aside the creationism claims in the Book of Genesis, I’ve found that most YECs simply have a difficult time accepting the idea of 4.5bil years, because, to them, it sounds too far-fetched; and they’ll often deride the idea of a timescale so vast. The problem is, the timescale we use as humans - years - is essentially arbitrary (aside from the obvious fact that it takes a 365.25 days to orbit the sun).
Let’s say we lived on Jupiter, which takes 12 earth years to complete one full orbit around the sun. If we used the Jovian orbit as a calendar year, the earth would “only” be 375mil years old. If you used Neptune’s calendar year, which year is ~165 earth years, the earth would “only” be 27.3mil years old.
The point is, our unit of measurement concerning time is relative, so we have to look at the bigger picture when we hear timescales that range in the billions of years.

I was a creationist once before in my life. I wanted to know that when I died something would continue onward. Eventually, being shown the overwhelming facts against my belief system and swath of information for the other sides, I came to the conclusion that the existence of a deity, as described in most religions, was impossible. That lead me to a change in my life that resulted to where I am today, hoping to one day shape the future of those who will live after me as positively as I can. Science is really the only long term way to forward that cause, as it is proposed that, with sufficiently advanced technology, almost no one would have to die again and their lives while they were alive would be enjoyable. As depressing as it is to know that one day my existence will be quickly pulled from me, it makes me happy to know that I may one day contribute something immensely helpful to the humans that come after myself. That's the reason why I believe most creationists lean the way they do, they do not wish to accept the fact that there is a finite end to life, and I really can't blame them.

Disproving that the world is only 6000 years old is sort of like learning that Santa Claus isn`t real. The majority of religious minded people understand that. That has very little to do with their belief in afterlife. Faith in afterlife, God, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha is mostly personal and you either have it or you don`t. If you have it, you know that it is real and you don`t require proof. If you needed proof, you could refer to those who have died and returned with their stories of afterlife. I always understood I had already been baptized as a baby and pretty much figured I'd leave it at that, however since I been attending another church and possibly different doctrine, however I found they were pretty much the same. After attending on and off with the First Baptist I decided to be dunk baptized even though I already knew I was already covered when I was a baby. This happened in 2004 the same year my father fell I'll to cancer and died. I did get a chance to see him a week before he did pass and I'll never forget what he told me while in his room at the v.a. center. He was sitting at the edge of the bed and he kept rolling his oxygen hose up and putting it away and I kept having to tell he wasn't supposed to do that and he should put it back on, otherwise our conversations were pretty much small talk all of a sudden he looked at me and said "son why are you covered in water?" I asked him to explain and he said that my whole body appeared as though it was covered in water and that my sister looked the same way....it turned out that she had gotten dunk baptized too, I know he knew about her baptism but not mine and I asked her if she had said anything about it and she said "honest to God no!" I won't even try to convince anyone here what I believe especially in a room with people who need proof in something that requires surrender and faith. I now believe that people on their death beds are in the process of having their veil lifted or at least my father did and he saw something that we cant see at least till were ready. Some things are forever etched in my mind... I remember when the space shuttle blew up, the world trade center disaster etcetera, and what my father said to me in his last few days left on this earth.

This is a misconception. In the beginning of Genesis, when YHWH or (God) tells (Adam) to be fruitful and multiply, he says to replenish the earth. It also says, the earth was void and without form. And darkness covered the face.
my point is, the dirt that composes the earth, and all of the elements, are likely billions of yrs old, if not timeless. What the statement here is, is that the current shape, the current time or age if you will has begun.
now there is even a timeframe offered. It says Abraham is born in 1948. The original. like 1948yrs after the fall of man. Then it says in the geneology, that from Abraham to bondage was 14generations, from bondage to exodus was 14 generations and from exodus to messiah was 14 generations. So three sets of generations. A generation being 70yrs, also taken from scripture. So 3*14*70+1948= the time span between Adam and messiah birth. Which is believed to be 3bc.
Which would make 2015 the 6900th yr after the fall of man, as of last April. of course they called it Nisan.
So, with one week of creation, a day being as 1000yrs, as he says on genesis, that puts 6900 yrs since the fall, and 7000yrs of creation. So 13,900yrs since the earth was without form.
There is nothing to say it was not once or more formed before. The translation for earth here was really land. earth means dirt. soil. solid sediment. So technically its not even referring to this planet. Scripturally the planet is Jerusalem.
any who ^^, hope that cleared some up. have a good one, and feel free to search and see if you come to the same conclusion ^^,
interesting, when Adam fell, he was told he would die that day. Adam freaked out but was reassured a day was 1000yrs. he was recorded to be 930 when he died. So exactly 70yrs shy of 1000. One generation.
Later, he says he will cut the time short for the sake of the elect, lest even they fall. well. Adam represents man, right? so exactly 70yrs from the end of this current thousand yrs is 30yrs from now. Makes me wonder if he will cut time that short for man as a whole ^^, I do not know.

"Time" is an infinity grid. For the sake of simplicity, "time" is a measure of change. There is therefore, such a thing, scientifically, as a state of 'timelessness,' which divides 'time quanta' or stated as, 'windows of change,' which is what 'we' are familiar with, so far measured as "Planck time."

Can we all agree that our time is limited? Can we recognize that the more time we spend arguing the less time we have to do what we really want to do? Just really comprehend how valuable your time is--it's the most valuable thing you'll ever have--do you really want to waste the most valuable thing you'll ever have? Will forcing your opinion on someone else really make you that much happier, that it's worth wasting your life doing?

I rank in the top 1% for science comprehension and have an IQ in the 150 range. He makes me feel like an idiot. I do not fault him for that, I fault the American education system. Any American student who deserves it and qualifies for it should be given free college scholarships. ***** I've seen past what I'm up against. I'm already aware of what I'm up against. Also I said God, so therefore demigods are already out of the question.
So, as to what God, I have no idea. God could be anything for all we know. Thus the purpose of faith.
Also, I don't necessarily even believe in a God. That understanding may come later in life, but as of now I'm agnostic. If you were even able to comprehend my comment, you would understand that I said God is vague and hard to understand scientifically. And you are making a a huge misunderstanding. "Scientists" combating religion with contradiction to theology isn't scientific in the slightest. That's all opinion versus opinion and logic vs logic. None of which can ever prove that a God does or does not exist.
Now what I know to be certain is a life after death after talking with countless people who are able to detach the from the body and travel in a spiritual form which who knows maybe the spirit is a very advanced form of energy which technically could be supported with Einstein's theory if there were collected data. At first I thought this was bullshit because I was an atheist an only believed things I could relate too but then these people started to tell me what was going on in a room without even being in there. I then tried to learn how to do this myself and I've been practicing for roughly 2 years and up until about a 2 weeks ago did I actually have my first minor success.

I love your work and TV appearances professor Kaku, but I must differ with you in your initial statement where you said that only humans had a concept of their limited time on Earth, and therefore, of death. I heard these same kinds of statements where others have said that animals don't have a concept of the future, which makes me wonder why then would a bird prepare for winter, build a nest, or warn other animals of impending danger. Non-human animals have an even deeper understanding (does not have to be intellectual) of their relative time on Earth. Anyone who has raised animals and has a close bond with them, while studying to understand them thoroughly, can realize this. The more I study about non-human animals and interact with them the more I realize that it is us, and not them, who still need to learn from them. In fact, much of what Homo knows about survival have been learned through observing animals in the natural world.

Its faaar more complex then you understand it to be. Take 1 element out or lower/raise that element and Life doesn't exist. It all was created with razor sharp precision.

What if God is in another dimension? I really think the Bible says this too us. Many times God is referenced as "all seeing", images in Revelation of having "many eyes", etc. One way to explain this is that God is in a higher dimension than ours. (For example, say a piece of paper was a 2D universe, if you held it far enough, you could see everything on in at once since you're a 3D creature).
If God is in another dimension, it would also scientifically explain why he is the Alpha and the Omega, or how he has no beginning and end. In another dimension, time doesn't have to exist!
    Just my 2 cents.

    • @jannmutube
      @jannmutube 9 лет назад +2

Shankovich God is omnipresent. He would be in any universe or dimension. He's even in you if you accept the Lord Jesus as your Savior.
Actually, the idea of "everlasting to everlasting" or another universe or dimension (someplace other than our world or universe) is not a new idea. It's thousands of years old.
... Psalms 90: 2, "Before the mountains were brought forth , or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God".
... John 14:2, "2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Sir Michio Kaku, you probably won't believe me, but I had a dog, which was incredibly smart, unusually smart, a thinker. He was not of pure breed, but mixture of many. Anyway, he knew he was going to die and he cried when he was sick. He also knew the day he was going to die and took me for a long walk. I didn't know that he was going to die, so I actually wanted to make the walk shorter, so I sort of forced him to go home with me. He didn't want to enter the door, so I had to force him to do that as well. And then he made himself comfortable, fell asleep and never woke. Then I understood everything that happened during walk and while getting back home. So when you say that we're the only ones who understand that we're going to die one day, I'm afraid, you're not correct.
EDIT: I have a strong feeling that all the cells are intelligent as well and are adapting to environment, making new and better structures and organizations, how else can we explain such an incredible and unusual dog, right?

7:22 "1 foot every thousand years" 9:19 "a thousand years per inch" What? "6 inches is equivalent to Ussher's time scale for the whole of Earth's existence." First off, Ussher's timeline stated that the world began 6000bc, not 4000bc like this program is stating. Secondly, how do you go from 1 foot to 1 inch? I'm not saying that Ussher was right, or that the river didn't form the canyon(which 5 million years ago "that" river and "that" ocean were nowhere near there, but that's besides the point), I'm just saying that you should really get at least SOME facts straight before you attempt to FILM something to be on TELEVISION. I mean, good grief.

They're talking about different things. At 7:22 when he say's "1 foot every thousand years", he is talking about the rate at which the river carved the canyon down. At 9:19, when he says "a thousand years per inch", he is talking about the rate at which the sediment built up before it was eroded by the river.

No, they aren't. He says it took 1000 years to form a siltstone strata, which is a layer of rock formed as sediments deposit over thousands of years. Watch the clip at 9:19 again.

The show assumes you aren't stupid. Usshers time scale DID start at 4000 BC which was 6000 years ago, you're confused. You seem to have no idea about geology or plate tectonics, yes the erosion may have started 5000 years ago but the rock would have been pushed above sea level in the order or hundreds of millions of years ago, way before the existence of the river. God damit people like you annoy me. How about learning something about this world instead of waiting to get into heaven eh?

Everyday everything we do on earth is for, by, of the bodies with our five senses: smell, taste, touch, hear, and see like breathing, watching, talking, eating, wearing, shopping, thinking, praying, singing, crying, haircuts so on. We do not see what our souls can do by themselves or not much the souls can do without our bodies while we live on earth. Life after death: Religions tell us that our souls live on after our bodies die. What our sous do in eternity (never end) since our souls cannot do much without the bodies? Are our souls aged or not?

As human beings, we all know we will eventually die. The idea of a God, especially a personal one who watches you and listens to your prayers, is comforting to some humans. It can also be terrifying to some who think of it as a celestial North Korea where you are constantly watched. It is also comforting to believe that there is an afterlife, which we would go to upon death. There is no guarantee that we would know anything more than what we know now after we die. If we are all beings of energy and that energy is just absorbed into the universe, we cease to exist as an individual entity. We are not the center of the universe, but we are the center of our personal universe. Your life is in jeopardy every single day from all sorts of threats. The old saying that "there are no atheists in foxholes" is just fear of death manifesting itself. All we really know is that we are alive today and that life is a privilege. Make the most of this life because it may be all there is.

Carl Sagan said something to this effect, If I really believed what Jesus taught about life after death and hell etc. I would crawl over glass to let people know. That's why Christians tell you the gospel. "There is a principle that is a bar against all knowledge, proof against all argument and which must keep people in everlasting ignorance-that principle is contempt prior to investigation." Herbert Spencer

Why can't religious people just keep it to their self though? I don't go around telling people that pizza is amazing and that they should eat it. Why push your beliefs onto other people? The problem with religion is that some people use it to justify killing people. In science there can never be any sort of justification or order to murder other people. If your religion really is all about peace then there is no need to make a big deal about it. If you have peace of mind what does it matter what the rest of the people around you believe?

i think a lot of people are under a false assumption that people are "pushing their religion on others." Other than the yearly knock at the door by the Mormons, no one ever talks to me about religion. No one at work tries to force me to follow what they believe, either. As a matter of fact, I don't remember any time in my life where someone was actually forcing their beliefs on me. If I'm somewhere and the host asks us to bow our heads for grace over a meal, I don't count that as a horrible mean thing that puts me out. I bow my head - it makes them feel good. I'm simply being courteous. I certainly don't have to, but why be a dick about it? Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the issue. In the mid east, religion is scary.... they'll kill ya over it. In the western world, it's not an issue, though people continually freak out over it... on both sides.

I very much appreciate Michio Kaku's respectful approach to the question. I would like to point out (hopefully not to spark debate, just to perhaps clarify?) that in the Bible, books like the book of Genesis are written as legends/mythology, so naturally the conclusion that the world is 6000 years old and created in six days should by no means be drawn as fact. There are more important things in the Bible. By the way I certainly don't mean to deny religion, but hopefully speak for religion (I'm a Christian).

It doesn't speak of genesis as a myth. It does not say the world is 6000 years old.
People simply think the first time they read it, and an image forms in their mind,
that this MUST be what actually happened,
when truth is, they have it figured wrong.
Created in 6 days didn't mean it was in 6 ..EARTH..days.

To dicuss the possibility of a creator we have to assume that the creator would transcend the universe and the laws that govern it. As a Catholic we are tought that heaven is a different state of being. God is was and always will be. He is not bound by time.

Evidence has not convinced me that religion is real, and I refuse to blindly believe.
That said, we are confounded by our current understanding of things. That is, we're unable to explain things within the realm of science as we currently view it.
Take for instance the question, "when did time begin?" We ask that question based on our current concept of time, but the question itself, using the word "when," implies that time already existed.
There can be a start or end to many things, but not time, not existence.
This brings us to the concept of "eternity," which is immeasurable. Not being measurable puts it beyond the reach of science, as science is currently viewed.
I'm sure that someone will find fault in what I have said, and I welcome criticism. This is just my first imperfect attempt at expressing something I have long felt, but been unable to adequately express. My hope is to hone my message over time, through replying to criticism and support. Thank you.

Scientifically speaking, if the soul is energy, and I don't know of any religion that says otherwise, then the law of conservation of energy means the soul doesn't cease to exist the moment the body's compost. Now, where it goes after death, that I'm not gonna go near because I haven't died and then come back. Frankly, anyone who hasn't is unqualified to make unequivocal statements as to what happens after death since their opinion is thereby uninformed.

    • @Admiralhall2000
      @Admiralhall2000 8 лет назад +1

Energy though is not the same as the soul. Your mind is just a highly evolved and well ordered collection of electrochemical signals. When we die they convert to mostly 100W heat and some chemical changes. The mind is thus dead since no electrochemical signals are flowing. Conservation of energy has occurred. Order has become chaos. Entropy rules. So to believe that the law of thermodynamics applies to the minds survival as a soul is illogical.

+Ariel Fetters That presupposes a pragmatic framework for epistemology which is limited. Being there and back doesn't necessarily, in itself, allow someone to know with certainty what they've experienced. That being said, science is limited by those same constraints of a sort of pragmatic epistemology that goes along with the open world arrangement in inductive reasoning. You can't know anything with absolute, epistemic certainty through science. However, you can get close enough that it's reasonable to believe in scientific theories. I'm not saying that your analysis of the situation is wrong, but it's primarily representative of one type of logic. There are others that allow for certainty i.e. the illative sense, and deductive reasoning. However, deductive reasoning pretty much has the caveat that you're assuming something. Like, "if these things are true, then I'm certain about this other thing."

The earliest memory I can remember is when I saw pitch black, red eyes, shaped like a tiger. I felt a pinch and then crushing sensation in my right arm. I yelled and the beast got smaller and I yelled again and it kept getting smaller and smaller. It shrunk to a dot size and starting getting big again and I screamed loud as it backed down for the last time. That was all that happened then I remember waking up holding my crib I think I was still a toddler maybe 1. I've always felt brave after that if there was a word for the emotion I still feel now as a fighter of the boxing ring. It's strange too because I have a birthmark on my right arm. Oh well all of it could've just been a dream.

His very first sentence is an assumption: "Unlike all other creatures on this Planet, we are the only ones who know our time is limited". Really? Did you ask that horse? How about the ant? Or the dolphin? Oh wait, they don't have "intelligence" so they can't know.
Which ironically, is his own Christian values coming through - the Bible has the idea that animals don't have souls, and thus are not worth saving. But his own "science" has disproved this - crows solving puzzles, mice learning mazes, animals showing love....
This just seemed to be him having a gentle go at Christianity, which is a cheap shot. If he really wanted a challenge, he should have tried Buddhism, which states that the Universe is infinite and ageless, and that time is not really anything more than an ever-changing now moment.
This is just "Science Creationism" vs. "Christian Creationism".
