@@philippelevesque5223 meh. I care cuz you do. Actor and Strange Mercy are 2 of my favourite albums. SV had a few good songs, but she's gotten a bit contrived since then IMO. This new stuff doesnt do anything for me, but I dont feel bad for anyone about it.
Right. I noticed that too. The trick here is that she actually sucks at playing guitar, but she's really really really good at improvising so when she misses a note she knows when to bend it, etc.
"St. Joni ain't no phony, smoking reds where Furry sang the blues" Great reference to Joni Mitchell's "Furry Sings The Blues" from her album "Hejira" (1976).
They gave her a custom sig model of her guitar with a hendrix style reverse head stock. Music man hookin her ass up! lol. And omfg when they all stand up at the end... Brings back memories of the funky 70 days lol.
Since Music Man sued Musicvox for making a guitar with a 4 + 2 tuner arrangement, and Musicvox make guitars with 2 + 4 tuner arrangements, I think Music Man should expect a law suit anytime soon.
@@jameswarner5809 Lol They also sued and won against earvana since earvana has nuts that are basically the same as default nuts used on music man guitars. Message to guitar people... Stop stealing shit lol. Might get sued. Just sayin... Copy right is a thing. I run a monogram shop and can't exactly profit off of putting basket ball team logos on peoples shirts... Why should they have been allowed to copyright it and; B. What's stopping anyone from copyrighting the industry standard 3 + 3 or 6 + 0 arrangements?
Mostly what we see here is exclusive. Either we get good backup singers, talented band, extravagant looks, badass guitar skills, cute voice or unique mood, but Anne, dude, you're combining it all every year
I know people are falling in love with St.V’s performance and the incredible backup singers but just listened to the lyrics and really let it hit me just how much respect she’s giving to female performers from the past (singers and actresses). Her performance is ALWAYS stellar but the thing that has always caught me about St Vincent is her incredibly vivid and strong songwriting skills. Talk about poetry in motion. ❤
One of the many reasons why I return to watch this video over and over is to listen to the gorgeous, spot-on harmonies from the supremely talented background singers.
The times we are in look so bleak that about the only thing I think that might pull us out of the nosedive is a social revolution precipitated by music (and I lived to see music do this before so I know it's possible). And out there on the fringe of wherever it is that we are headed I see St Vincent. I don't know why she elicits that feeling in me because I wouldn't normally be drawn to her kind of music but I've been captivated by her and her energy and I can't shake the feeling that she is capable of inspiring a lot of people to take us in the direction we need to go. She is a beacon of trusting your own personal creative muse and riding that wave. Thanks Annie.
Justin Meldal Johnsen. Also played with NIN and does plenty of producing. And for any bassists out there, his signature Mustang bass he’s usually playing (not here) is KILLER. Best bass I’ve ever played.
There’s so much that goes into an act like this. It has to be nostalgic, powerful, current, SEXY, and completely en pointe. She nailed it all. I love St. Vincent.
This one makes my eyes well up every time. I love a lot of music, new and old, and there hasn't been a record like Daddy's home in a very long time. St. Vincent and the Down and Out band really did it.
Ive gotta be honest i was initially turned off by the vintage revivalism of this album but its really growing on me. Plus the production is so clean goddamn
amazing how compelling her performances are, even though very simple in a way--no flying from the rafters, or 300 back up dancers twirling things, etc. what a pool of talent on this one, from JMJ to guiliana to the singers.
I love so much that you have been inspired by the 70s and 80s, one of my favorite snl's forever I can't wait to hear the full album for sure it will be the best
That moment with her riffing fills on her guitar surrounded by the BG singers belting it out was magic. Lot of musical talent on that stage and Annie is the party planner that puts this all in motion. I think the 70s packaging is a bit contrived from a wardrobe perspective but why not play dress up if it fit's the album's concept? This is genuine live music, performed by really talented musicians on mostly vintage instruments and just makes all of the other stuff filling up the charts seem kind of pathetic and plastic. This performance had soul and most of the other ones you see on SNL, not so much. Well done Annie!
don't you just love it when rock stars go through their 70s phase.
Nope

Hey, it worked for Goldfrapp.
Only St Vincent could perform on SNL with her golden custom guitar looking like she just came home from the wildest party
I was thinking of the name for her aesthetic -- Seventies shabby sheik?

SERIOUSLY! Those three show how it's done!
Those background singers snatched my soul...
I will NEVER tire of listening to her play guitar.
She simply does not play enough. So very very good at it.
Right. I noticed that too. The trick here is that she actually sucks at playing guitar, but she's really really really good at improvising so when she misses a note she knows when to bend it, etc.
She eats John Mayer for lunch and defecates Joe Bonamassa.
When people say there's no real music these days, just point them here.
yes yes yes yes yes
A creative engine. Doesn't hurt that her band is amazing. Those backup vocalists are amazing!

Her music references is just amazing
Her guitar playing is extraordinary and the calm she has with it is mesmerizing. I love her!
holy hells bells, how is she such a glamorous libra queen!!!!! so talented! so beautiful!
the women in the chorus sounds like angels
I love how she blends so many different eras and styles in her music.
