Thanks for watching " Copy Elements from Links in Revit Tutorial "!
Oh.... it is so simple. Much easier than I thought. Great tip, thanks👍
Used this trick back in 2018 but its more useful to open the linked file and select/filter everything you need then copy to cilpboard and use align paste in your model.
If the link is 1.2 GB and you already loaded your source model and you only need 1 or 2 elements …. Opening the link sucks!! Haha, but yes, of course you could do that
Thank you 😊
imtryna combine various services to become one model.how do i modify the hidden lines such as when you see it on plan view it reflects the arrangement as to which services are on top of which ones??the services model are links files
Thanks for sharing
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed! Useful tip for many I am sure! It has been for me.
Question. We have a navisworks file with some pretty detailed equipment from a supplier for an industrial building that we are designing. That is all they are comfortable sharing with us. Is there a way to get this file to actually plug into the revit file so that I can actually see it in enscape? When I open enscape navisworks files don't show up. Not sure if there is a work around or not.
No, Navis files brought into Revit are pretty munch only useful for visual checks. You'll need some other file format. You could try exporting from NAvis to a DWG or FBX or something along those lines. Or have the supplier give you a usable 3D file. Not sure why they wouldn't share some form of that if they were willing to share an NWC?
Hey Jeff, does this work with any family? I did something similar but it was using copy/monitor as the items i copied were wall based...
Pretty much anything... of course, there are limitations. Copy/Monitor is great and should be used but it is limited to only certain family types/categories.
How to copy model array group properties?
@TheRevitKid can i copy en assemblies from an arch link model to the host model?
Not 100% sure about Assemblies … but elements (families and system families) from an arch link 100% will work
Thanks a lot for the tip but i used it and it seems it doesn't work for all elements by showing " can't copy part of element " message ? probably it has to be a system family not a loadable family OR WHAT ?
@TheRevitKid Can i copy monitor a full category from a linked model like all the pipes from plumbing model?? !!
you can copy monitor a lot of stuff... copy and pasting like in this video has its limitations.
This could be the solution i'm looking for! I've got this linked model that i'm trying to bind and ungroup but it always gives me critical errors and forces me to cancel. Didn't know you could just copy from links.. Is there a way to select everything without doing it one by one?
Yeah, this could help when binding doesn't work! The only way to select multiple elements from a link is using Dynamo or manually control selecting... I haven't tested large copy/pastes and process.
If you need to copy the complete run of ductwork, it might be easier to just open up the linked file, tab select the entire duct network and use the same copy and paste aligned to your project. The technique Jeff is showing in my experience is best for copying single elements like plumbing fixtures or diffusers. But since you can only select one element at a time, opening up the project is probably going to always be better for large copy pastes. Just make sure you detach the revit file when you open it so you don't mess with the original. Let me know if you've tried that before without any luck.
@@mep_guy Agreed... This is great for one off situations when you don't want to open the link , for sure!
I'm seeing electrical items in our rvt. of a building link, which has an electrical links as an overlay. buts its an overlay not really there. I was able to copy and paste to same place for receptacles/swtiches on the walls but not the ceilings can lights even tho i can see them its saying " the following types already exist but are different."
Ceiling Types : Ceilings : Compound Ceiling : 5/8" GYP BD X2 Ceiling
Family : Lighting Fixtures : 2651-Downlight-Recessed Can_LTF_CB_AD : Lighting Fixtures : 2651-Downlight-Recessed Can_LTF_CB_AD : 6" Incandescent - 120V
Level Types : Levels : Level : 1/4" Head
Loaded Family Information : : 6" Incandescent - 120V
Materials : : Gypsum Board
Materials : Materials : Gypsum Board
Materials : Materials : Gypsum Board - Ceiling
Materials : Materials : Wood - Stud Layer
I click ok and it says this
"Can't place inserts outside of hosts. These elements wont be copied, Elements will be deleted"
Not sure how to fix. Thanks
is ducts modelled using fabrication parts?
They could be… doesn’t change the workflow shown here .
nice! can you copy everything from the link? thank you!
You can only do one item at a time…. If you were going to copy everything simple use the “Bind Link” command.
how do I copy multiple or all elements?
Dynamo or a plugin unfortunately….
my question ,how do you put gutters in inclined edge in a roof?
Same as on any roof...?
in inclined part gutter don't work so i need to use roof fascia with same gutter profile.🙄
@@arcdipesh Oh, you're talking about up the "rake"? I see... I am curious, why would you need a gutter there??
@@TheRevitKid in many cases, such as sloped vault roof, sloped two way angled roof for ramps ,external stairs, etc.
COPY ICON NOT WORK ANY HELP
Why would you use this instead of copy as part of copy/monitor?
Good point. Copy monitor works great but it is limited to only specific categories.
I tried to copy pipe with copy/monitor but it doesn't work, i guess that family system we can't copy it with copy/monitor
You can use Copy/monitor for only 7 set of elements. Copy monitor wont work on Pipes/ducts.
