    I discovered spider mites recently. After listening to my personal plant guru (you), I bought the Bios herbicide spray and I love it!!! It makes all my leaves so pretty. Luckily, only one plant was infected so I placed it outside where it just happened to go through two mega summer storms (the kind that produce tornadoes). I can attest that spider mites cannot live through pelting rain and 50mph winds. However, that's a bit of an extreme solution. I think I would use the storm method over beneficial bugs though.

    I love, love, love beneficials - they are the best!! I bought a bunch of paper gumdrop cups with a plasticy silver backing at the dollar store & I dump predatory mites and pirate beetles in them and set them on the substrate, because I don't like having to clean up media they come in especially if it gets damp! Once they're done I just scoop them up and empty for reuse next time. - I so wanted a microscope like yours (here in Canada). I couldn't get it to work well without downloading software from China, so I had to send it back. I use my phone for banking and just couldn't take the risk. I'd love to have one though!

    Spider mites have always been a problem on my plumeria outside under the patio cover. They generally like hot dry conditions and suck the juices from the leaves as seen as stippling. I regularly spray my plumeria leaves with plain water to knock them off then periodically use a horticultural oil spray to smother them.
    Green lacewing larvae are super voracious eaters of pest insects including spider mites, so you may not want your mix them with your predator mites.
    I think predators work best in a closed environment like your mini greenhouse that way it’s easier to tell if they are effective and not just crawling away somewhere else.
    Best to inspect your plants often to head off any critter attack.👍
    Thanks for the informative video!

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow
      @ohtheplacesyoullgrow  3 месяца назад +2

      i'm pretty certain the predator mites were not alive upon arrival, which is why I felt comfortable releasing the lacewing, but I can totally see why you wouldn't want them both together at the same time!

    Rather than rubbing with your fingers, you could try a soft paint brush set for washing. I use the small ones in between the petiole and stem to remove crack hiders and the bigger brushes for the leaves + underside midrib and I never need to treat again, but I am super thorough cause I’m bad with repeated treatments. I like a one and done. Also, putting your pots on carpet (and putting carpet soil back in the bag) could promote spider mites, they and their eggs are everywhere cause they ride the winds 🌬️ .
    I have hypoaspis miles and they scavenge the soil and leaves and I’ve seen them keep spider mite populations very well under control (experiment). It’s weird cause I’m totally grossed out by spider mites but I let the hypoaspis miles crawl all over my hands (they freak out when you agitate the soil and crawl out of the pot). But I’m a soil microbiologist so maybe I’m biased to soil buddies 🕷️.

    I use preventive predatory mites all year around, that are in the sachets. You really have to be looking hard to know that their there. I've been using them for a little over a year and haven't had thrips or spider mites. A lot of people just use them in the spring/summer period when pests are more likely. For me there definitely worth the cost. 🌿
