Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" what will happen if you pour liquid nitrogen into you foundry?
You really need to clean that thing. So much metal residue. In fact, how about make a video on how to properly clean your crucible?
pyromaniac000000 agreed
Was about to comment on how badly he needs to clean out his crucibles. It contaminates and messes up anything he melts in them.
pyromaniac000000 I agree
It looked like the glass could be used to clean the crucible
I've been thinking this since his last crucible before he got the new ones. We seriously need some clean crucibles on here.
Rip to a legend will be missed by many😓😭
He will be missed 😢
You’re the only person who said that on this video
I already miss him😭😭😭😭

@@ramslade that is exactly what I was thinking as I read this comment. 🔷〰️🔷
The bottle you made looked just like the original! Well done!
while it's pouring keep it heated with a blow torch as it falls into a mold. Please like so Grant can see this.
A blow torch probably does nothing considering the high temperatures needed.
AckmanDESU maybe it will slow the solidifying on the glass
mk
Grant should make glass radioactive gear
I had this exact same question today! And here is Grant with the answer. Awesome video!
+JerryRigEverything Sweet!!
yeah wow
JerryRigEverything how do you think bottles are recycled? do you think they just clean the used ones?
Hi
Glass is glass and glass brakes 🤣
I want to see a liquid mixture of glass and metal....
#* Sometime with DIVYANSH yes
An act of heresy!
Idk if it would mix, i think the metal or glass would sink to the bottom
Wont mix for the same reason oil and water dont.
You did
you may have passed away but you will never be forgotten to the king of random
Grant, nitrile gloves are a bad idea. They are the opposite of fireproof. If they catch fire, they will melt to your hands. Upvote so Grant will see this
For heat you really should have high temp foiled gloves, but plain cotton gloves make a pretty decent substitute.
these guys are going to get hurt one day
We all miss you grant, you brought so much to out lives. You were an amazing guy and im sure your looking down at what this chanel is now and smiling at it.
i think a smaller crucible with broken up glass will get a better flow, plus make sure its clean of other materials.i really like how you had two propane tanks heating it up,unfortunately i think it might have created an excess because there wasnt enough glass to keep hold of the tempature to keep it liquid because of the extra space in the oversized crucible.
how bout crushing the glass first?
you have been playing to much minecraft
How does that mean he plays too much minecraft?
In Minecraft do you crack the glass before melting it?
김진수 well were playing minecraft rn
김진수 no.... You can't melt glass in mc, you can though melt sand 8nto glass
Hey Grant can you think of some way to make a glass play button
NICKILLS I like that idea.
NICKILLS I was going to say that until I saw your comment but I will still say because that means there is more of a chance he will make a glass playbutton
I would love to see you guys do a diy glass blowing video. Sooo satisfying 😊

i think they did.
Ugandan Gamer your profile pic is the background of my IPad
You should try to make prince rupert's drops, first with water and then with liquid nitrogen
Irving Galindo yes
Do it
Today
Press channel already did it the other day
Can you put sand in the crucible to see if it will turn into glass
It takes more than just sand to make glass
Seems like Silica sand or quartz sand is the primary ingredient, the other ingredients seem pretty easy to get a hold of so I bet he'll be able to do it.
sand + sodium carbonate + calcium carbonate = glass
well, mixed at great temperatures
I already commented that
Minecraft has corrupted society
The music selection is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7:52 That's me in the bathroom a week after Chipotle and Taco Bell
I feel ya RIP
Try melting just plain silica sand. Please, I want to see if you can make your own silica glass.
GRANT IN ACTION!!!
Thank you!!!!!! I've been looking for this!
Maybe try having a metal pan on a grill to keeo it warm then get a blowpipe to blow the glass and use the pan or something else to shape it and hopefully the grill will keep it warm enough to take shape and not solidify. You could also try having someone with a blowtorch on the glass itself to keep it heated. I wanna see you make somethin outta glass its got me excited!
When blowing glass you use wet newspaper to shape it (while wearing a heatproof glove obviously)
now you can make molten glass try to make you own prince Rupert's Drops
p.s maybe try it with liquid nitrogen and see if it makes an diverence compared to water.
Stiderspace do it with liquid nitrogen!
Try putting the molten glass in water to make a Rubert's Drop.
GumballMachine3k i like that idea
*googles Rupert's drop* oooh yea.. Thumbs up Gumball's comment so he sees it plz !
I was just scrolling down to make this same recommendation :P
Thanks guys!
It's really nice seeing both grant and Derek excited about this
When you do the casting, make sure you keep the glass hot and moving! You can find glass blowing vids on RUclips :)
So, can it turn sand into glass?
Scot Chaffin yes
Can jet fuel melt steel beams?
Bottomline Stinger the twin towers theory
Bottomline Stinger ofc everyone knows that
Bottomline Stinger no but thermite will
Bottomline Stinger I don't know if jet fuel can but bush can
Duh look at 9-11
Every glassblower out there is cringing at the sight of this 🤣👏
I work in a bronze foundry and my boss (casting for 50+ years) says he used to use glass bottles to clean up the molten bronze in the crucible
can you melt magnets?
Yes, but they will just be metal and he will have to re-magnitize them
Sassy Cucumber2259 yes
The magnet will degauss and turn to normal alloy.
yes you can but you have to remagnetize it with electricity etc
The reason magnets wrk is because the particles are aligned melting them will de magnitize them
Now you should make a video about trying to clean that crucible...
Agree
Yes!
I agree
I agree I know someone who does metal casting and he struggles to clean his crucible
Hello There, I'm Axolotl, Esquire haha
I have used small propane torch on lab glass works, glass is neat stuff to play with!
He now entertaining the heavens with his random ideas
Grant, try melting glass through the solar scorcher. Will the goth go through the glass or will the light burn the glass.
Can you make a alloy of molten Glass and Copper?
Yep, the two things he has trouble with, let's stick with that.
I need to see this.
The ancients mixed metals with their glass. Maybe you should be more open to new ideas...
Could this fancy foundry melt T12 fluorescent tube ? If you could make a video it would be awesome.
I've melted bottles in a regular campfire
JoeMotta M ,Hi , how long was your camp fire burning? , I tried to melt glass in a camp fire but it would not melt ?
Mike Espo
He might have meant plastic bottles but I'm not sure, I could be wrong though
No glass. Just a massive bonfire will do it
What would happen if you made a glass bullet and shot it? would it shatter before it left the barrel or would it survive until impact?
Lukewal99 Get this to top comment this would be an amazing experiment!
Lukewal99 this would be awesome to watch
I think it would be awesome to see. As long as his bullet casting goes better than the bottle. We don't want him to ruin his gun.
This has been done on RUclips already. The bullets shattered.
shatter. but then it would turn a rifle and a pistle, or whatever you are using, into a shotgun
Could you turn sand into glass
Sure. With enough heat and pressure, that's part of what happens when you fire ammunition or explosives into sand...it turns into a muddy glass.
Yvonne Siggemann yes
minecraft fan XD dont blame you same here XDXDDDDDD
Yvonne Siggemann yeah but it's a really difficult process the channel "how to make everything" attempted several times but he never got a clear glass
I agree
I need a link to the video on how to make the that. We were just talking about if only we had a way to separate solder from number 2 copper yesterday and I think this is the perfect solution if we can regulate the temperature
It pulls like molten sugar it's so pretty 😂 they seem alot alike in terms of how fast it cools and pulls. Alot more viscous obviously
Make a prince rupert's drop!
Hey Grant, maybe you could add some soda ash to the glass as you melt it. I've heard that lowers the melting point of glass.
You should melt down some glass and then try casting some molten metal on top of it (or vice versa if the glass is less dense) before either solidifies. I'm pretty sure this is how they used to make highly accurate flat surfaces.
You: What's for dinner?
Mom: Glass soup!
Will the solar scorcher melt glass?
Gaute Robertsen possibly🤔
Yes, it did. He showed it in 1 video
Gaute Robertsen it was in an old video once
Mr. Goodman ps just so u know if y look at 100 year old glass panes the bottom is slightly thicker than the top since the glass flowed downwards
Then you can try glass fidget
Grant I know this is gonna sound weird, but you should open up a p.o. Box so we subscribers can send you some materials for all of the cool experiments you do, because I know some of that stuff gets really expensive. Like you said in your other video the copper gear that copper is expensive and I think we viewers would like to see some more of those casting vids. Like if you agree
Thanks for the suggestion. I just might do that
M&B Hunting yes
M&B Hunting YYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSS
hey Grant!!! maybe you should see how long it takes to BOIL glass!)
maybe you could also try and put molten glass into a vacuum chamber!!
+Enrique Vazquez hi
Please MAKE glass in the next video
I make neon signs which entails heating glass tubing to a softening point in various burners to bend it to shape. The burners used are either natural gas or LPG and air which is more than enough to melt soft glasses but not quite enough for borosilicate.
What happens to a live bullet in the foundry? Will it fire or melt.
The gunpowder will go off pretty quickly, long before any of the metal melts.
PolyJohn even if that's the case id still like to see it in action.
K
Hey Grant..
I've been asking this since 2 weeks..
Please do a "molten glass dropping into liquid nitrogen."
(Prince Rupert's drop)
please notice me.
they say, the glass dropped turns to a super glass.. like really hard to shatter... (when dropped in liquid nitrogen.)
is this true?
Yeah that would be so cool
Look up Prince Ruberts Drop
prince rupert's drop??
Was meant for Ramya Narendran.
actually glass is a supercool liquid
for some of its amazing properties
We used a normal Bunsen burner to draw out glass tube to make a pipette in our chemistry lessons, so I knew that a gas fuelled kiln would be able to melt glass. I was a bit disappointed that Veritassium didn’t figure the whole thing out beforehand. Someone with an engineering degree should be able to look up the melting point of glass, the expected temperature that a kiln would achieve and come prepared. But maybe he just wanted to keep it random!
You should do something with prince rupert drops!
Oh yeah! Plus Veritasium did a video about it so he can help with it!
yeaaah ... and do it with liquid nitrogen
can you do experiments with a prince Rupert's drop?
really was informative useful , keep up
can you show us how to make graphite crucible at home? please ?
Ik this is only for science but can u make popcorn in the metal foundry and make the cap fly off ?😂😂😂
Now this is something I'd like to watch
Akuseru2K yes I want to see this too
Next you have to make glass from sand
im pretty sure that grant doesnt live in a minecraft world
Jack Bowe that isn't how it works..
DKMiniMix You do know that's how glass is made right? You should check out MakeEverything's channel. He made glass from sand but couldn't make the chemicals to make it clear.
DKMiniMix you guys do know glass comes from silica sand, right?
Farhan Kanapiah glass is made from silica sand, and a bunch of chemicals, not just sand.
I have softened bottles in a backyard fire pit. They softened enough to push into other shapes with a long stick.
Perhaps turn your bricks sideways to reduce drop height. Perhaps blocking end might keep the ambient temp from dropping fast. Could use glass panes to still be able to film process
@GrantThompson to keep the glass hot while it drips into the hold, can you try to hold a blowtorch on each side and see if that is able to keep the liquidified glass hot enough to make the mold?
What about pouring molten glass into liquid nitrogen, would it make a super strong Prince Rupert's Drop?
The leidenfrost effect would make it cool too slowly to form a PRD, water has a higher heat capacity, and cools glass _FASTER_ than liquid N2.
I came across this video to better understand how glass could be molten. I found some molten glass (or at least it looks like glass) on a 40-50 cm dark patch on the ground during a walk on the woods nearby and wondered how it could have melted in such a small fire.
Could that be something caused by a lightning strike?
Dude that is so coool!!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪
Can you use a vacuum chamber to de-carbonate soda?
mankey 13579 all you need to do is shake it up but yes you can
mankey 13579 jes
mankey 13579 it happened to he when i left soda in the hot car and it tasted horrible
cheeriosspagetty leave that's not s vacuum Chamber lmfao
you can do that at home. all you have to do is buy some soda and put it in and glass and leave it......
Hey grant can u try to cast a glass mini master sword it would be pretty cool
oooo, i second that
InfuriousFlames Gaming I was gonna say that
InfuriousFlames Gaming unfortunately glass doesn't work like that. There are ways around, but only in a glass studio. I'm afraid that the backyard will not cut it. 🙁 I would actually like to see him try in a studio though!!!
I think if you make a foundry with a poor spout (though this will make the crucible nonremovable) you'll be able to cast glass while it's still fast flowing hot.
I've deconstructed some old houses where the windows were thicker near the bottom and thinner at the top from where the glass actually flowed down
make ur kids a glass bong
DO IT!
PsychedelicFeen LOL and send it to me
lmaooo
420 BlAzE iT m8
lol yes!
You should've made a "Prince Rupert's Drop" from the molten glass
don't think that's possible with only that forge l. You would have to super heat it to about 2000 degrees for it to melt and stay melted for enough time to make the drop. But if he gets a different one. Deafinetly possible.
Or you can just take a glass rod and use a propane torch to heat the glass up. You don't need some super forge
You should TOTALLY do glass blowing!!!
Hm not familiar on the chemistry of fluxes - I wonder if you can use a regular flux for glass or if it needs something different?
what happens if you use a bullet mold to make glass bullets?
stupidkidlol ...it would be glass that looks like bullets lol ?
you'd get moldy bullets :p
Melt sand and try to make your own glass
Not how it works
Jacob Schweigert sand doesnt turn into glass. Sand consists of different minerals/rocks. Glass needs to be made with very specific amounts of certain minerals, like quartz sand.
Jacob Schweigert you play way too much minecraft
I think the sand would just meld with the crucible.
Johannes Kure Nielsen lol yeah im a minecraft addict too
I'd love to see you try this with steel or cast iron
Have you ever attempted making a foundry but with map gas or even HHO to yield a higher smelting temperature?
grant if helium makes your voice go higher and sulfur hexafluoride makes your voice go lower what will happen if you take both gasses at the same time?
John Ulrich Seludo it creates mustard gas
yes do it
John Ulrich Seludo nothing
he did that with Lance Stewart
under 5 insane science experiments
you should try to make a Prince Rupert's drop!
grant you should
King of random! We throw bottles in a camp fire and they change shape from the heat!
Glass is a supercooled liquid. to make flow easily you would need very high temperature and continuously kept hot . The goey mass of glass could have been loaded onto a rod and shaped like they do for handmade candies.. or as you said blowing glass would have been cool too. the bottles are made by blowing method ( if I am not mistaken)
Make a glassblowing video! I DOUBLE DOG DARE YA!
Woo Doggie
+Tejas Gajare it wont mix
Try making a glass knife
i know you have almost 10 million, but you deserve so much more.
Glass can only be molded at very high temperatures. It completely melts/liquifies at approximately 1400 °C to 1600 °C depending on the composition of glass. Glass is made from a variety of substances, depending on the intent of use. Mostly sand, lime and soda are what most glasses are made of.
You should try making your own glass. Like super heating sand.
you need much more than sand and it would be a process only a high-end company could make, though that would be cool
be interesting to try though, sand does need to be melted at slightly higher temperatures but that glass melted easily enough
ahh didnt know that
all it takes is sand limestone dust and some flux
What happens if you put a light bulb in the vacuum chamber?
TheBirdNerd o
This was on my birthday
The aluminum tinged the glass yellow.
Next time you need a torch on the glass to keep it from becoming solid while you cast it.
make a glass playbutton please.
Geert Perton i think, glass molding would be really hard to do
Geert Perton holy jeez slow down your pacing he JUST learned he could melt glass
I think its doable. u just need to mill a disposable crucible with a base in the shape of the play button so its both the crucible and the mold.-- not economical, but doable.
Joshua Jones stfu it's the king of random, I bet he can
You should do Prince Rupert's drop vs some of your home made pyrotechnics. Like if you agree
TheJdollar15 definatley. And he should get a slo mo camera, and shoot it, catch it on film just like smarter everyday did
Damnit I commented that 3 hours before yours and it faded into oblivion ._.
Or since everyone is doing fidget spinner videos, you can get a metal fidget spinner spinning fast with compressed air and see if it can break a Prince Rupert drop
I was thinking that also. Just wanted to know if anyone else was. Some people probably don't know about that. Its know to be almost unbreakable accept if you snip the tail end of the glass
At what temperature did it melt?
Try to melt sand.
>Implying a metal foundry can't run 200°c hotter that it did in this video.
=how to make glass
Glass isn't 100% sand though
Try to melt a mirror
