Years ago there was a guy in town that had a 70 Z28, ran good, burned tires all over town. One day i seen it at the wrecking yard with the front end crashed and someone had already pulled the heads off, one bank had the original 11-1's the other side was flat tops.
Ford did this in 1966 to some of there 289 hipo. I ended up with an engine out of a 1966 mustang that was winning drag races in the pure stock class. No one could beat him. He bought the car new and never knew it had mismatched pistons in it. 4 on one side had valve reliefs and the other 4 on the other side had no valve reliefs. I ended up with the engine because he totaled the car.
I've ran flat pistons and a solid lift cam for several years turn it around 7100 also run a 4/7 swap cam which I feel has a smoother throttle response. If you plan on running alot higher rpms may want to stay with your roller stuff.
@@CherezianRacing ... I finished in the top ten at Memphis Motorsports Park (3/8 mile) in the early 90's. I started racing halfway through the season.... I never even knew it for months, until someone congratulated me for a top ten... I just showed up at the track each time with the goal of winning .... 2 ND place is just the first loser ... Real men do it in the dirt kinda attitude. I only ran a left front brake just to set up for entering the corners (Brakes just slow you down 😁) I truly enjoyed racing ... I always put on a show for the kids ... that's how racing got in my blood...my dad took our family to Riverside International Speedway (1/4 mile) (W. Memphis Arkansas) when I was a kid ... This one Hobby car was a 74 Malibu station wagon ... with a suitcase strapped on top of the luggage rack and clothes hanging out.... These cars were not a "Bomber" class ... they were like super stock ... ...but this car was out running everything down the straights ...but that long car had problems getting around the corners a lot ....but what a show he would put on ... also, the car was "pink panther" pink 😱... it really stood out ... The deal is, I was making fun of that car when I first saw it because of the color ... but after it got 2nd in it's heat race and second in the feature, I learned a lesson .... so when I started racing, my main goal was to excite as many kids as I could when I was on the track ... memories last forever ... thanks for sharing yours. 👍😁✌️
I once put a 7:1 piston in a row of 9:1 slugs, in a stock 300 6-cylinder. It would idle on 5 cylinders, until about 2,300 RPM, and then all six would come in. You can get away with mismatched Pistons with low horsepower, but don't try that shit when you're making five or six hundred horses....🙄👍💯
Unless that motor has a roller cam shouldn't have a bronze distributor gear won't have wear issues unless you have it buried in the cam gear depending how much is machined off heads might need to 2 distributor gaskets for height!
next time take a paper towel soaked in marvel mystery oil the use the towel to scrub the cylinder walls. you will be surprised how much crap and dirt the mmo will remove.
@@CherezianRacing Guys, I build small cc 4 stroke engines for go karts and minibike drag racing. Many times, these motors begin life as Habor Freight 212 or 224cc predator motors. I make sure i give each motor the MMO paper towel treatment. Surprisingly the brand new the cylinder walls on these motors are disgustingly filthy.
You only need the bronze gear if you're running a Billet roller cam. Otherwise, it's totally unnecessary. Also don't run one of those Chinese distributors that's loose in the galley. That will cause oil pressure problems to your lifters. Another thing, make sure those Pistons have the same piston pin height. The skirt is not a big issue, but you want to be identical from piston pin to top of piston. It wouldn't hurt to get some plexiglass, and some clay, and CC the tops of those Pistons..... I could go on all day
Long and cold winter season here in Wyoming. Can't wait to see you racing again. Good content with really good explanations. 👍🙂
Thank you! Yea im sure your winters are just a little bit longer haha
Incredible job man. Learning so much. Thanks again
Thanks man!
Somehow this and your last video went under my radar, all caught up now though. Race season starting get spun up here in the Carolinas
Right on man. We are more than ready around here!

Haha nice
Yes hydraulic cam with solid lifter works
I think ill give it a try
Good job Ryan still cold 🥶 in ohio
Thank you Tony!

This motor is going in our hobby stock which is very limited. Maybe 300-350hp. No roller cams allowed
It is going to be hard to sell it after you win the first race of the season and wind up "Points Champion" for the year.😁
Haha thanks for the optimism! I dont think ill ever try to run for points again. Took a lot of the fun out of racing

Thanks for watching. It has a billet roller cam
You should have those pistons fly cut
Why?
First! Bush Beer time!
Yessir, you got that right!

It has a billet roller cam. And yea the pistons are the same part number so same compression height, rings, valve CCs.
I don’t where you race but that would never qualify as a hobby stock where I’m at.
