    You can use anything from any version of d20 / ad&d with little to no change on the fly. From b/x you add 1 to AC. From 3-5e you -1 to AC.

      Yes on all counts. Plus, let's not forget the connections Troll Lord Games has had with the Gygax family and now the Gygax Estate and what future projects that may bring. ALSO, in the last 36 hours of The Hermit kickstarter Troll Lord Games connected to Arcane Library to include The Hermit converted to ShadowDark RPG.

    Yes!! I've got the 3 core C&C books plus some floppy modules so I will be running C&C for 10 months or so but then .... when I receive my ACKS 2 Imperial Imprint physical books slipcase set next year i will switch over . Bye Bye WotC zoo animal Thundercat superhero D&D -- hello Sword and Sorcery Pulp Fantasy. So glad there are games like ACKS and C&C and even Hyperborea 3e out in the gaming world.

      It is my honor. I had the pleasure of meeting Gary in 1985 and he was very gracious to me. He introduced me to Tracy & Laura Hickman and asked them if they had any VIP tickets available for the Dragon lance dinner party, and I was given one. I ate at the table with Tracy & Laura, Margaret Weiss, Roger E Moore, Keith Parkinson, and Douglas Niles. Over the course of the two days I met the rest of the Dragon Lance team getting all of their autographs in my copy of the 3rd novel in the Dragonlance Chronicles series.

      @@DM_Bluddworth I designed games for fun when I was in ES and Jr. High, and at one point I figured out the phone number for TSR and called them asking if I could work there. Of course they politely declined (I was probably 11-13 yrs old lol).
      My dad saw the phone bill (this was in the days of paid long distance phone calls of course) and instead of rewarding my dogged determination, I got in trouble for the phone bill.
      My wife has remarked more than once that that was a terrible lesson to teach a kid!

    I'm glad this video popped up in my recommended section. I've been playing RPGs since 1978, but only got C&C this year. I've run it once for a group, and it was easy to create characters, easy to run, and had a lot of cool elements that other fantasy RPGs didn't have. I'm quickly becoming a big fan and I hope to start up a campaign of C&C in 2024. Thanks for your video. I'm now a subscriber.

    C&C is just so flexible. It's my game of choice for more depth and for adapting stuff from various versions of D&D. If I want super simple, we'll go B/X or OSE. Currently revising an old high level inter-planar campaign from AD&D to C&C. I may have a group of OSR newbies next spring and I'll likely go OSE for them.

  • @Decado1628
    @Decado1628 8 месяцев назад +7

    100% agree. I look at other systems, but C&C is my game of choice for my "D&D" campaigns. My campaign is going strong after a year and a half. The system is super flexible and it easy to adapt material from other sources into the game. IMO C&C feels more like D&D than WOTC 5e. My son, who has primarily played 5e, is currently writing a C&C one shot to run for our group. He plans to switch over to using C&C as his choice for D&D as well. I am super excited about him doing this and it proves to me that older games can appeal to the younger audience of gamers (he also loves playing Call of Cthulhu).
    One of my favorite books is the Adventurer's Spellbook. All the spells in the game in one book and is very handy for players who play a caster or the CK. If some one is looking to play the best version of D&D, they need look no further than C&C.

    Even if you are not running a C&C campaign, the CKG is a great reference book to have. It is overflowing with great ideas and information. I have a 1st run copy and I have used it for inspiration in my current AD&D and B/X games. Well worth the investment.

  • @opaqued2039
    @opaqued2039 8 месяцев назад +4

    Could not agree more. TLG is an excellent company, and you were correct that a lot of other systems have borrowed from this system. The flexibility of the Siege Engine is probably the biggest strength. With C&C, I've been able to run previous D&D and AD&D modules and campaign settings. It takes little to no effort to make the necessary adjustments. This system feels like the true successor for AD&D. I love that all I need is the two books you mentioned. That's so great. Of course, that doesn't stop me from buying just about every other C&C book I can get my hands on.
    I've also used other TLG products (notably Amazing Adventures and Harvesters). I've run Amazing Adventures, designing and running a very fun 1980s themed game that brought in elements of previous Palladium products that we love (TMNT and Other Strangeness, Beyond the Supernatural, Ninjas and Super Spies, and Heroes Unlimited). I backed the last campaign for an updated Amazing Adventures and look forward to it. Unlike the Palladium stuff, characters were balanced, easier to keep track of, and the rules were consistent. My players loved those games, but they didn't like the system as much (at times). It was fun to see them get to enjoy that again with a better system. With Harvesters, I ran a fun game similar to Red Wall or Secret of NIMH for a couple of my players. One of the interesting things we tried out through Amazing Adventures was changing the base numbers for attributes (12 for primary and 18 for secondary) to 10 for primary and 15 for secondary. It made things a little easier on the players and worked pretty well. I'm not sure yet which set of numbers I prefer.
    I have and love that C&C Starter Set (boxed set). I wish more companies released boxed sets that are complete games. In terms of value for what you get, it's going to be hard to top the Dragon Bane boxed set though.

      There is a major change between 7th and 8th printing - how Grappling and Disarm work. It is simpler in 8th printing. Also a major change between 4th and 5th printing in how encumbrance works. Its more user friendly and less taxing on players post 4th printing. 1st and 2nd printing had a major difference in that the 2nd printing added poisons to the Assassin entry. The rest of the "changes" are not memorable.

    Old hand looking at getting back into RPGs (played 1e/2e/3.5/4e), how does C&C stack up to 5e and Pathfinder? I get that it's more of the "OSR" approach in that it's like a cleaned up 1st or 2nd edition, so closer to the old-school vibe than a more modern game. I'm swamped for choice with OSR (OSRIC, Basic Fantasy, OSE, Swords & Wizardry, etc) and then there's still 5e and Pathfinder out there too...

    • @DM_Bluddworth
      @DM_Bluddworth  5 месяцев назад +1

      C&C is far superior in every way to 5E. I think it is better than PF1 as well. It is less OSR and more of a natural evolution of AD&D 1E with some aspects of 3E thrown in.

      The key to remember is that the monsters in Curse of Strahd will have to be stripped of bonus and legendary actions, as the PCs don’t have those. There are far fewer class features in C&C as well.
      C&C is far more lethal, and streamlined than 5E. You will find that combat resolution is roughly twice as fast in comparison.

    The problem is no one is playing or wanting to play these games. The OSR is dead around here. My players aren't enthusiastic about any OSR system. We are switching over to PF2E. When I announced that everyone instantly got more excited. And I've had so many more interested in being at my table that I'll be running 2 campaigns. I think the OSR fanatics have let outside politics decide their opinion on newer games. We don't worry about that. I think you should take a look at Parhfinder and decide from there.
