The thing I'll never get over with this show is how genuine it is. It's either genuinely heartfelt, or genuinely relatable, or genuinely heartbreaking, or genuinely emboldening.
Last episode they taught us that you don't need to be the chosen one to do great things, your action is the only thing that defines who you are. This episode they taught us there's no such thing as perfect timing, the only good time to start living your life, is now. Both episodes share a common theme, you can make your own destiny if you put your mind to it. So when you grow old, you will have a story to tell! Frieren is the Chicken Soup for the Soul of anime 😭
The fanservice is vile in this episode! How could they have Frieren do something as terribly lewd as.. throwing a KISS? Have they no shame? It is truly wonderful to watch your reactions to the events in this show. I genuinely think this is one of the best, most beloved animes of all time - at least to me. I loved starting my weekends sitting down with a later dinner, some good alcohol (Heiter said it is the best medicine too, so makes even more sense) to get that light, mood boosting buzz that is made even better by this show. It managed to give me a sense of NOSTALGIA before even a year passed since the last episode... and that is insanely impressive. Frieren as a main character is just.. chefs kiss. She has all the traits that make you adore and respect her at the same time.
Do remember that Flamme also taught Frieren about giving men gifts of clothes dissolving potions... Pretty sure Flamme taught Freiren more than just combat magic 🪄
No matter what this show try to do - it execute it perfectly. Be that comedy, drama, adventure, fights. And it all goes down to how well it's written. it is almost like a real life show and not an anime. Every bit of character build/growth, or story development is given time to breath and build up. No rush. No screaming and shouting. Pure masterclass story crafting!
I love that stuff like this repetitively keeps happening to him, in this show. Oh, we need this Priest to join our party? Well, let me hurry up and have my life CONVENIENTLY put in peril, so that the Priest has no choice but to interact with Frieren! lol This entire show reads like a D&D Quest, when you really think about it...
A little theory of mine is the big fish that Stark reeled in near the end of the episode was symbolic to the party reeling in Sein to join in on their adventure. They got their own "big fish".
Other shows really need to take notes when it comes to making really good and opportune flashbacks from this show. I usually struggle with slow pace anime but this show and the Apothecary Diaries are so well written that every moment has my attention even if there's no action, tension, danger, etc, that usually wakes you up. I love this show so much i've seen it over 20 times already, and if someone would ask me if they want to watch it again i would say yes without thinking much lol. Thank you for your reaction, it's interesting to see how different people empathize with certain characters and their struggles, and this show definitely brings those emotions in us, like struggle with regret, loss, indecisiveness, etc. Even the whole Journey to "understand how human relationships work" is something i can relate even as an adult. I mean how often we try to understand what the other person is thinking or feeling right? 😅I look forward to the next one ! Have a lovely Day/Evening ! ☺
i agree with you, Frieren's little "umph" when she's proud of herself are the cutest thing ever, this episode was a bit of interlude of laughter, cause you're gonna cry again next episode, since you asked for a flashback, you're gonna get the best one yet :)
That whole scene at the beginning, with Sein sinking into the bottomless swamp, reminds me of when I first watched this episode with my sister: Me: "Wow... He's literally sinking into 'The Swamp of Sadness', huh?" My Sister: "Oh, don't you dare!" Me: "I wonder if he lost his horse, Artax, the same way??" My Sister: "That's it! You die!!" My sister grew up with "Neverending Story," and that scene where Artax sinks into the swamp of sadness always used to destroy her, emotionally, when she was little. So, as her brother, I consider it my sacred brotherly duty to never let her forget those days.
Thanks for your reaction! Today was another rollercoaster of emotion. Sein's introduction with the swamp was unique and he had some interesting character moments. Excited to see his chemistry with the rest of the party. Loved your commentary on Frieren's character growth.
18:53 I love how Frieren used to see 10 years as nothing because it was so short of an amount of time for her. Now 10 years are still short for her, but for that reason she wants to enjoy them as much as possible.
This show is so good. Favorite thing of the year. Not seen an anime like it and love seeing ppls opinions on it. Dont have anyone irl to discuss with rip. This anime makes me happy lol
Thanks for your reaction. It make me happy to see that you love this series as much as some of us. 🙂😊Be happy that there is still many episodes left to enjoy. 😃
I finally caught up with your backlog of Frieren reaction, I am so happy I got to enjoy your analysis and digestion!~ Honestly there are some comments you made that I wanted to explain or expound on, but I will save it for the end of the season, as it would interfere with your thought process! The majority of your analysis has been spot on to my own thoughts, so I am happy to see your journey through the story!
Those two should have had a romance. And deep down, I think Freiren knows this. But she never took the time to APPRECIATE Himmel, when she had the chance to.
Great reaction as always - you bring an emotional intelligence to this that some reactors don't quite seem to have, and it's always good to see. The way you seemed visibly affected by that line where Sein says "They shine too bright for these tired eyes" makes me wonder if you've ever seen The Last Unicorn (I don't know how old you are but I guarantee it was before your time). There's a part where this character, a woman who is getting into the upper end of "middle aged," meets the unicorn and it seems at first like she's going to have this moment of like "oh wow, so beautiful" but it turns into this angry outburst that starts with "How dare you come to me now, when I am this?" or something like that, and there's so much pain and loss in it... that's what Sein kind of reminds me of in this episode. As a guy in his mid-40s with a failed teaching career and (as of pretty recently) a failed marriage under his belt, this episode hits me harder than I think it does for a lot of people. I know exactly how it feels to believe that it's too late to choose a new path. 🥲
I interpret Fern, Himmel, and Stark's reactions to the "Seduction Technique" as being the result of their sheltered upbringing. The kingdom they are in seems to be very modest, conservative, and religious. Fern was raised by a Priest and Stark raised by warriors. Himmel seems very pure of heart. We've seen no depictions of brothels or even scantily dressed women. So perhaps blatant and practiced expressions of seduction are rare.
Flamme has just taught Frieren some very important things, from how to give a man a gift to how to seduce him. She really knew what she was doing, that her apprentice would need a little push in the love department
I love how the one time she actually tries seduction, it literally falls on its' face. Sein couldn't give a rip how old Freiren actually is, because Freiren still looks like a shortstack teenager, when Sein's ideal "cougar" is probably somebody who LOOKS like she's middle-aged. If only Flamme were still alive...
@@jacob4920 The funniest thing is that Frieren thinks it didn't work because he's still a child, but at the same time it works with Fern and Stark because they like Frieren
I just realized himmel wasn't sexualizing frieren when his blood came out of his mouth instead of the nose like most anime characters and he was touching his chest like he was getting a heartattack. Nice detail 👍
Thanks for the reaction. And just because I am so early something off topic. Before you react to Arcane I highly recommend you watch/react to "Bridging the Rift". It is the making of Arcane and is a really great watch.
Stark from Eisen: We can tough out Poisons! Fern from Heiter: Alcohol is the best Medicine! Frieren from Flamme: Outdated seduction technique! I love how proud frieren is after giving the "nagekiss". Both Fern and Stark grow up without a opposite sex in the same age, i can understand and feel the innocence xD
sooo this guy. his name is sein. i dont know the intention behind it but in german, it is the base form of "to be". but it can also be existing or a more philosophical question of being like cogito ergo sum, i think, so i am.
Nobody mentionned it yet so my time to rant ; noticed how Frieren's perception of time is evolving ? Before, she was saying "it has only been 10 years" in quite a negative way, as in that amount of time doesn't mean much at all, but in this episode the way she says it is much more postive and rather translates as "there is still time and hope" (13:40)
After completing your Season 1 journey, please react to the MV for the 1st OP of Frieren🙏 I recommend you… 1st) Enjoy the images in the Japanese version 2nd) Enjoy the lyrics in the English version
Of all the jokes in this episode, my favorite is the comically small utensils Sein keeps talking about, just because the more you think about them, the better it gets. Who makes a tiny bathtub and hoe in the first place? If it's barely usable, why did they even bother buying it?
It's not like the seduction technique was magical at all. Fern and Stark were just into it. Sein didn't care because when he says that he's into older women, it's not an age gap that's he looking for. He wants a milf. And Frieren is most definitely not that. Hence Sein's response of, "Someone take this child home."
It effected fern and stark cos they were raised without really seeing or interacting with ppl really and have poor understanding of relationships, social queues, social conventions etc. Probably never really seen displays of affection or flirting really
"Aversion to my own kind"... I think Frieren said that as she recognized a very powerful magic user in Sein. Granted a different school of thought being a priest, but still similar enough.
@@blshouse Maybe a bit of that, but I don't think it was the main issue. She was stuck not in regret but in waiting - Flamme told her to not make a name for herself, to lay low, until she was strong enough to take on the demon king.
