21:30 - people dont even look at the pictures... Just had someone file for a return on a funko. 12 pictures posted up of a single funko! Shows a tiny hole in the back of the box in 3 of the 12 pictures. Customer asked for return saying arrived damage. People are idiots... Refund, Block, Move on - At some point ebay will need to allow more than 5000 on the block list....
I always send message "Thanks for your Purchase. I will send you a message when it ships. Simple message "It's on its way! Tracking number allows you to follow progress; if there is holiday or weather events, I make a note that package may be slow per USPS", I also include a business card that has TY, Store Link, and phrase " if you have any concerns, please contact me." The cards are only a few cents each. Whole process that 2 or 3 minutes tops. I'm a small seller so this is easy for me to do.
there is a scam where a buyer claims a tree trunk fell on their product and will want a refund. i recommend a 14 day return policy because most scammers assume you have 30 days and will swap the item with another product sometimes they return a different item after the case is closed.
Good information. I've been running into not getting feedback even on good sales. I'm told by other sellers that it isn't as important as it used to be, and no news is good news. Quite an adjustment after not selling for a long time.
I’ll gladly take a negative feedback any day of the week as opposed to offering a partial refund. If someone isn’t satisfied with an item, they need to open a return and send the item back.
See if the buyer isnt threatening you in any way (ill neg you if you dont do what i want you to do), they will delete it then if you get to talk to a good rep.
agreed I do this VERY rarely, a known scam. Recently I shipped a set of 6 figurines and apparently 2 of them broke in shipping. Buyer did post pics of broken items and was polite. In that case a partial refund seemed fair and surely cheaper than return shipping. However I do this VERY rarely, and sure wish other sellers would refuse it too. When a scam is not fed, it dies a natural death.
Never had an issue with returns, until this year, too many are I will use then return... I am OCD with taking pictures, give all measurements, and defects. I always send a copy of my item description to them after buying... Many don't read. I've had to turn off returns for now after never having it on. I've been selling for years, it's never been this much of an issue. I'm sure my sales will drop, but I normally sell a fair amount. I just don't want to deal with the "use for a little bit and I will return" crowd. Not sure how so many are out in force lately, but it's just out of hand this year.
i have had a few this week , from a scam to oh i thought it was in a different language on a scrabble game that had 24 photos , to a collector plate she said was not the one in the pictures which hands down it is again 24 pics of it at every angle , you learn to zoom and take a bunch just to try and make sure they dont' send you a doop back or something its unreal sometimes
I used 14 days on larger heavier items with buyer pays return shipping. This discourages returns. Mostly I will use no returns as I mostly sell jewelry, so it's not a large return lable price. I always send a message to the buyer stating thank you for your payment, this item will be shipped asap after payment is processed. That lowers the chances of the buyer asking to cancel before shipping. I opt to ship within 3 days.
Almost seems like you're obligated to offer a refund. Had a return request recently, and I just trying to click around and explore my options. After I clicked on process refund, it wouldn't allow me to go back to the main menu until I finished the refund process. Basically got extorted for $25
wow many things I did not know here, so ANY reduction means you lose fees? UGH. Even if I only deduct shipping? I messaged buyer twice, once when shipped and again when she filed a return with questions, ignored. It was a new with tags jacket, claimed damaged, then returned in an open bag, now really damaged. Returns SUCK so bad. True they do not USUALLY happen that often, but seems 'tis the season' in Jan 2025, 3 in a week. I've dealt with 2, 1 more to go. Your videos are helpful, THX.

I offer Free Returns. Just had a lady open Return Request but waited 10 days to send back. I think she wanted me to tell her to just keep it. No way!

Great info Jon especially for the newer sellers
Our returns are about 1 out of every 100. We wait for the return to arrive, inspect, then make a refund.
Thanks for taking the time to explain return mind set.
I don’t accept returns, but of course accept returns if I am wrong. I don’t get a lot of problems
I wonder if you changed to returns for a month if you would see an uptick in sales?

Lately Ebay has not been asking for my opinion. They just accept the return automatically. 🤷
If the reason for the return is doesn't fit. Who pays for the label? I had two of those and in both cases buyers paid for the label.

Thank you
You're welcome
as soon as you said return I got 60 returns 🥸😫
I have my returns set to 14 days. We sell authentic 8x10 autographs. Do you think that should be changed to 30 day?
If you don’t get many returns now then 30 days really won’t create more returns and it can only help your sales.
Never sell on ebay!!
