  • I never played Sonic Colours, but do have the Remaster on PS4. It isn't mainline, but looking at it, it made the most sense to include as the third game from this era. Black Knight and Seven Rings had Wiimote gameplay and very limited gameplay at that.
The longest level by far, and it does kind of drag, but solid overall too.
Act 1 primarily relies on using the Pink/Purple Wisp to cling to surfaces whilst Spin Dashing and use the Cogs to open up routes, slightly overdone considering the length of the level, but fun as a one off stage gimmick. Solid music again.
Because I hadn't actually heard the music before I decided to stick with the original for Act 2. The only other track I had heard from Colours was Reach For the Stars, which was decent enough but almost every vocal track in the series beats it in my opinion, every vocal main theme does, that's for sure.
Act 2 will test pretty much everything you've learned so far and add the Orange Wisp for the Rocket Powerup which is handy for opening up the route and some shortcuts. You can boost on the cart sections to speed them up. Knowing when to hold on to and then use the Orange Wisp is key, but luckily most of the times you need to use it are indicated by three columns of rings shaped like a rocket.
There's a scene with an Emerald heading off to another Gate and Modern Sonic grabbing it, this is where the extra Emerald comes in. One for each Rival, one for each Boss and then this one for all stages. Charmy Bee is rescued here, and at least he features in Sonic Colours, I guess.
