A Charming City of Antiquity and Modernity

Chongqing, A.K.A Yu for short, is located along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in Southwest China. As China’s fourth municipality directly under the administration of the Central Government and the only one in Western China, it is newly established as one of five central cities in China.
Chongqing is one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities (the others are Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin).
It is the largest of the municipalities by area and it is the only one that is located far away from the coast. Chongqing is located in southwestern China within Sichuan Province and shares borders with Shaanxi, Hunan, and Guizhou provinces.
The city is known as being an important economic center along the Yangtze River as well as a historical and cultural center for the country of China.
Chongqing covers 82,400 square kilometers and governs 38 districts and counties (including autonomous counties), and has a total population of 33,434,400 with 29,450,000 permanent residents.
Chongqing is a great city to explore with its winding walkways, stairways and banyan besieged older neighbourhoods. Its locals are frank and honest and delightfully playful.
Chongqing is a humid city. Summer and autumn are the rainy seasons. The annual rainfall is 1,000-1,100mm.
Chongqing is a logistics hub combining water, road and air transportations, a modern manufacturing base, an important business center and the pivot for integrated transportation and communications along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and in southwest China.
It has established business and trade relations with more than 180 countries and regions. Modern farming is now growing with strong momentum, as are a wide range of fast developing industries, including automobile, motorcycle, equipment, gas/petroleum chemical engineering and materials.
Chongqing is a well-known tourism city for its fantastic mountain-river scenery and abundant historic and cultural sites.

Chongqing is famous for its delicious Sichuan style cuisine and hotpot.

Due to a classification technicality, Chongqing municipality can claim to be the largest city proper in the world-though it does not have the world's largest urban area. Chongqing is the only city in China with a permanent population of over 30 million, however this number includes a large rural population.
Among them, the total permanent population of Chongqing, Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu is above 20 million. Shanghai is China's most populous urban area while Chongqing is its largest city proper, the only city in China with the largest permanent population of over 30 million.
Most of travelers come to Chongqing are mainly for the relaxing 4 / 5 days Yangtze River cruise, but, the city itself, has many things to see and explore. If you like, you can spend another half day to two days visiting the mountain city and around.
The most important city in western China and the economic engine of the upper Yangzi, Chongqing City is a massive and enthralling urban sprawl. Chongqing makes up for a lack of top-notch sights with fantastic food and charismatic geography: its combination of steep hills at the confluence of the Yangzi and Jialing Rivers is a prelude to the even more dramatic scenery of the Three Gorges downstream.

On March 14, 1997, however, the city was merged with the neighboring districts of Fuling, Wanxian, and Qianjiang and it was separated from Sichuan to form Chongqing Municipality, one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities.
Today Chongqing is one of the most important economic centers in western China. It also has a diversified economy with major industries in processed food, automobile manufacturing, chemicals, textiles, machinery, and electronics. The city is also the largest area for the manufacture of motorcycles in China.

I'm sitting here in Germany, watching this video and just can't believe that such huge cities exist on this earth. I had been to New York City two years ago and that was already an exceptional experience for me, but Chinese cities again represent a whole new dimension in terms of scale. I read that there are 125 megacities in China. This is unimaginable. Finally, I can only say that I am very impressed and that this city seems to me like a dream place that is located on a completely different planet. Speechless! @@ChrisMinusHumour Oh you misunderstood. I am not saying that medieval cities in Europe are ugly. I have had an immense liking towards them when I started playing the Assassin's creed games. Medieval European cities are stunningly beautiful and well planned. There is no doubt about it. But many people from the west Europe behave like bots and denounce China constantly while taking immense pride in their classical architecture, which is irritating to see. Like what more do you guys(not you personally) expect China build? A space ship that stands still in the sky? But this superiority is a trend that continues from the last century against the USSR itself. When the East Europe and USSR was completely shattered and leveled to the ground, the only possible solution was to build something fast and least efficient, to put a roof under everyone. No matter under what conditions they were built, the commie blocks are depressing, right? You guys are lucky that Hitler didn't even inflict 1/100th of the damage to west Europe, compared to what he did in East Europe and USSR.
It looks like a beautiful city as much as Melbourne. Exotic and modern. and the Avenue is very clean like in Japan.

Please do a walking tour of chongqing land sea center(tallest building in chongqing,currently under construction and is topped out).That is a new area with so many amazing skyscrapers.But I have not seen any walking videos of that area.I don't know the exact location,but is near river and have a shopping mall called In city mall

I would say Pittsburgh in a lot of ways feel like Chongqing. I am from Sichuan Province from which Chongqing was carved out. I'd been to Chongqing too many times I cared to count before I went to the US for college. When I visited Pittsburgh several years ago, it immediately reminded me of Chongqing. Well of course the Chongqing City has over 10M residents, so it is a lot lot lot lot bigger and crowded.

Very insighful and interesting video. What an amazing looking city. I'd love to visit some day. A lot of people here in the west, I'm in CA, have no idea the size and complexity of some of these cites in China and elsewhere.

I think of Chongqing as the NYC of China--ultramodern and fast-paced, but with a gritty and grainy side that houses lots of creative energy and enterprise...if NYC were 3X larger!

No, brother, Chongqing is only a second-tier city in China. The video shows the downtown area. Comparing Chongqing to New York is a bit of an overestimation. However, it's true that the main urban areas of many Chinese cities are starting to improve in terms of development, making the cityscape at least look decent in the video. The real charm of Chongqing lies in its dramatic changes in elevation. Although China is developing rapidly, the overall urban landscape still falls slightly short compared to Manhattan in New York. However, it also adds some traditional Chinese characteristics, which I'm glad to see preserved in historical cities like Xi'an, Chongqing, and Beijing during the modernization process.
