  • Hiking the GR223 or Cami de Cavalls (Horses' Trail) in Menorca was a lot of fun until I had an accident... 😅
    0:00 Intro
    0:36 Terrain
    0:52 Gates
    1:12 Calas y Playas
    1:36 Rocks
    1:51 Accommodation
    2:48 Disaster
Everything was okay in the end and it was scary more than anything else, though things could have been very different if I'd fallen and really cracked my head open. I was lucky and will be more careful in the future!
In case you're wondering, I spent five days walking (out of a planned six), racked up around 165 km, and camped in the bivy for three nights (I planned for four). All very good fun--the GR223 is a fantastic trail and a great shoulder season option: I went in mid-October and the weather was perfect.

Very nice video but feel sorry for your nose. Get well soon 👍🏻
Btw, which camera do you use for the video?

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. I use a ZV-1 (Sony) as my main camera. Has its limitations but it's a very solid camera if you're traveling (light).

ouch! I hope its better now. But your editing style doesn't hurt at all in fact I really enjoyed this video. Great work and great hike even when the outcome wasn't that great at all ;) But you definitely got a new subscriber here, I hope that eases your pain a little ;) And just in case you like solo hiking videos you might find something on my channel you'll enjoy too, but don't feel forced. Have a great week and take care out there. Best wishes, Mario

@@yoahvangelder the video def helped thank you… the over night bivy sleeping has been one concern of mine, which you put my mind at ease about. Anymore tips regarding this would be much appreciated 😁.. glad you’ve healed well!

@@dianawiens9744 Hm... It may be worth planning where you'll be camping ahead of time, perhaps using something like satellite mode on Google Maps (look out for/avoid beach bars etc.). That way, you'll know if you just need to hang out at a particular beach or restaurant for a while while you wait for it to go dark. I didn't do this, and it meant I did some very long days and very short days, and it was a bit stressful/difficult finding a spot at times.

@@yoahvangelder thank you.. yes, trying to have a ‘refuel’ stop each day, so I will take another look at this, there has been such mixed advice on doing this, was great to see you succeeded! Thanks Yoah.. oddly, next trip planning is Holland 😂

I want to go in mid October as well, were there enough shops open to buy food regularly? And how were the bugs for camping?

    • @yoahvangelder
      @yoahvangelder  11 месяцев назад

I didn't have any issues with bugs when I did this. Some of the resorts I came through felt pretty deserted in the off-season, but I still found plenty of shops - at least one on most days, and there are beach bars and other things of that nature. Not a tonne of them along the entire trail though! If you're doing shorter days (and on the northern half of the island), it's definitely worth carrying food (and water) with you to make sure you have enough. I used maps (Google, Mapy.cz) to plan where to get food and drink. I hope that helps!
