I ended up being dragged on a road trip to Alpine Valley in ‘88 by my friends who had become Deadheads [perplexing to me-I had moved out of the country for a year and had different influences to say the least]. I wasn’t too into the music in all honesty until THIS SECTION of the shows. My GOD I was BLOWN AWAY by the percussion improvisation and then Jerry comes out with all this guitar effects stuff and midi guitar trippiness. That stuff had a profound effect on my musical life to this day!!
My favourite band -BY FAR!!! THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME FOR ME!!! (sorry for the All-Caps but I sincerely mean to express my genuine love for the Dead, yet my constant hatred of Drums/Space)...sure it was off-the-cuff and totally improvisational...sure it was different every night...sure, it requires a complex understanding of a particular musical structure...but fuck me! I used to go take a pee every time they started this. It just wasn't musically entertaining for me. It bored me. It made me tired, and was the only ONLY TIME! during a show where I'd take a seat.
wangson If you were as into the dead as you claim, you'd realize that this was their way of getting breaks without abandoning their high af crowd and leaving them music-less 1st strings...then drums 😑😑😑

11:34. That glance. He was happy about that effect 😂
Yep ! Vu à Berlin mais en OCTOBRE 1990 :)
Kreutzmann et Hart ?
@13:09 camera mans trippin!
It's interesting to contrast this with what the Allman Brothers do, which is more straight up poly harmonic work.
Butch and Jaimo drum circles around these cars, I love Bill and Mickey but all those drums and no groove or swing whatsoever.
they truly do not sound in the pocket at all
What do the allman brothers do, like what should I look up to find the drum break?
@andyz9793 your comment is out of pocket, the Dead always played to the beat of their own drum. (See what I did there?) Even on their own songs
This version is very dull compared to what they have done many times before. Good 👍
That's the beauty of the Dead. You can hear the same song at different concerts and they all differ. Yet, they all fkn rock!!
What is going on at 14:00??
Just Mickey whackin’ the wenus

i get it! But it doesn't appeal to me.
I always shake my head at people like you
Walking away to bathroom while the dead is on the stage performing
And if I don’t like things I don’t click on them just to comment how I don’t like it - trolling is pathetic
This stuff was down right spooky sometimes with a face full of acid, but I loved every second of it especially the drums.
