Maybe they did drop the train, but it fell in a position they did not expect it to. So they just used the actual practical fall as reference for a CGI shot. Lot of times directors do that. It also would help them not waste time in creating CGI dust, as they have it from the real stunt.

3:43 You could see the train did break like a fake train, so they used vfx I reckon.
In the train Oneshot scene we can notice a guy carrying a hurt friend of his and yelling for help in the accent that sounds familiar to the accent used by the misfits-gang members,
-Detail : Him and VJ's character use the word "Thollar" [respectful friend] which conveys that members of the gang were also in train meaning this plan of blasting the train was not executed by them,,
-another detail- in the 1st musical number there's a theatre scene where you can see VJ's character spying on Soori's behaviour behind

actually the film budget was small...because of this scence budget boomed....cg not satisfactory for director vetrimaran which is not close to reality
...so proper demonstration simulation practicesed....for capturing multiple scenes at same time...that effort paid when we watch on screen....
