    The Ford Falcon is a model line of cars that were produced by Ford from the 1960 to 1970 model years. The first compact car marketed by the American Big Three automobile manufacturers (though antedated by the Rambler American), the Falcon was the third car line introduced by Ford, following the full-sized Ford and the Ford Thunderbird.
    In contrast to its competitors, the Falcon was developed as a scaled-down version of the full-size Ford Galaxie sedan. Through its production, the Falcon was offered in the same body styles as its full-sized Galaxie counterpart, including two-door and four-door sedans, two-door hardtops and convertibles, two-door and four-door station wagons (the former, serving as a basis of the final Ford sedan delivery), and coupe utility pickups (serving as the basis of the Ford Ranchero).[1] During its production, the Falcon served as the basis for multiple Ford vehicle lines, including the first generations of the Ford Mustang pony car and the Ford Econoline/Ford Club Wagon vans.
    Through the 1960s, Ford produced three generations of the Falcon, all derived on the same platform architecture. For the 1970 model year, the Falcon was replaced by the Ford Maverick, through the 1975 introduction of the Ford Granada, the chassis of the 1960 Ford Falcon was used through the 1980 model year in North America, and until 1991 in Argentina. Following its initial 1970 discontinuation, Ford marketed a second "1970½" Falcon, serving as its lowest-price intermediate series, slotted below the Ford Fairlane and Ford Torino.
    From 1959 to 1969, the Falcon was manufactured by Ford in multiple facilities across North America. {TAKEN FROM WIKI}

      The 144 for 1960 had the same hp as the 170 for 1961, in 61 they defined the 144. Mine was a 3 speed manual 4 door, it gave me 29 city and 34 hiway. She had 125 k on the clock. Fun fact about the falcon, the owners manual said to change the oil every 7500 miles

    My father bought a 1960 Falcon 2 door brand new in light blue with the black interior, 3 speed stick, radio and heater. It was a great little car that owned up to all that was advertised. In '63 he traded it for a new Comet 2 door black with a white top also with the 3 speed stick that although they were very similar the Comet had a 5 inch longer wheelbase that provided a smoother ride but didn't affect the gas mileage. I would love to have both of them back.

      I've got a 2008 FG Ford Falcon XR6 with a 4.0 litre DOHC inline 6 here in Australia ..I did a run over 400 kms and reset the fuel usage data and did highway , city and general stop go stuff over the day..fuel usage was 8.0 litres per 100 kms or about 33. mpg ..It's the Barra non turbo engine ..lots of power and unreal torque...and built like a truck reliabilty ...Ford Falcon finally ended in October 2016 after 56 years in our country ...Had various V8's over that time and lot's of inline 6's all originating from the 144c.i Thrift engine from about 1959.. If you're ever in Australia check out our amazing Ford Falcon history ...From 1972 the Falcon was all Australian designed ...1960 -1971 based on the U.S. Ford Falcon.. By the way , it never ever had a V6 engine , only straight 6's including turbo versions ..The later V8's had supercharged engines too based on the Coyote V8.. Cheers ...

    The comparisons of the Falcon to the rear engine Chevy Corvair are very obvious in this video, especially when they're talking about the amount of luggage space in the trunk, and the engine being "up front where it belongs".

    They were soooo proud of that column gearshift which really looked wrong on the bucket-seat Futura. Whoops!

    I think Ford designers for America based this mifle size car model onto the Ford Taunus 17m, a German version very similar. Also Falcon has that tipical touch of 1961 Thunderbird fender, chrome bordering the union fender and hoof.

    if those MPG numbers are real one has to wounder or ask in in all truth is the MPG of today's cars all that good. when those were all glass and US made steal no plastic bombers that crack from a 1 mph bump no cheap trim on the outside and no computer systems running the cars engine and transmission costing an arm and two legs to repair.
    Yes those cars don't have some of the new items.
    But those were and will be up and running for years to come because of their simple systems

      Which is why I'm (I know this is highly ambitious) planning on starting a business to keep those old cars running (restoring, possibly manufacturing NEW parts from actual metal blocks) and get more on the road so more people can afford to get them. Greater supply of beloved classics + current demand = lower prices. I'm fully aware of the flaws of my logic there.

    The 1960 Australian Falcons fell apart on rough country roads.
    Took an upgrade to mostly compact Fairlane running gear in 1964 to start getting them a better reputation.
    Nearly had Ford shut down manufacturing in Australia if the 64 and 65 XM and XP models did not sell well.
    Were US roads that much better that these problems did not arise?
