    I made this vintage shirtwaist dress pattern in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. If I had a time-machine, this is the style of dress I would've worn to witness the 1963 March On Washington where MLK gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech.
    When I think of the civil rights movement, I think of the Summer heat and the color yellow. I couldn’t have found a more perfect late-1950s sundress to make for this occasion.
    This is my 3rd sewing project and the first time I ever attempted adjusting a pattern. I felt like it was missing something in the end there, so I added my own little signature style element.
    Support my next sewing project 🌻💛

    Tips to keep your iron from leaking are. Never store with water in it. Once water is in it don't lay it horizontal until it's hot and ready for steam. Don't press the steam button until it's hot enough this means when it's re heating too because it will just cause it to leak.
    If your iron has been dropped a lot then replace it.
    I've heard good things about Chi and I have a singer and I have no complaints and it now is available in Pink!

    I've read that Rowenta has lot of good irons with steam, they seem to be on high quality.
    Also I recommend that you hay to press the fabric lightly while you press the steam button, and also make little round movements with the iron to keep the fabric smooth (Idk if I wrote it right sicen English is not my first language but i finished my first year to become a fashion designer) An absolute lovely dress and tutorial!!! Amazing

    Wow. I'm not really a fan of ASMR videos but THIS was fantastic. I love sewing and could absolutely watch your sewing videos all day.
    Re: irons. I've spent so much money on irons myself, Black and Decker makes a good one,but my kids or husband were constantly knocking the irons on the floor so they'd end up leaking. The iron I'm using now is a TFal and although it's also been knocked to the floor, so far it's held up and doesn't leak at all. So I can recommend that one.

    • @CindyLeaux
      @CindyLeaux  8 месяцев назад

      I never had one. The only place I ever used them was at a bridal design company I worked at for a hot minute when I was either fitting for some rich girl whose family knew our owners, or if I was getting dresses ready to ship to trunk shows (I hated that job).

    You have a 24.5" waist? :O It would be super cute to embroider something on the collar - your name or initials, maybe? In a dainty chain stitch? I always associate the chain stitch with the 50s-60s. Or flowers or hearts or starbursts or something might be pretty... It's also super cute as is - the simplicity. With a pair of white gloves and black sunglasses, you would have looked like a beam of sunshine at Dr. King's historic march!

    I have an Oliso, it holds I think 12 ounces of water and produces a lot of steam. It wasn’t cheap, I think $125, but I have been using it for ten years and it has no problems.

      @@CindyLeaux well, in ten years I would expect some inflation. But if I divide it over ten years it was very inexpensive over the time frame. And I do use it a lot. That said, $250 would cause me more of a pause.😸

      I own an oliso Olso, very good iron, quite expensive do. With time I come to the conclusion that, no matter how expensive an iron is , you can get about the same results. I have own in the past two rowentas very expensive too. I destroyed them both (they started leaking) my fault I was using tap water,. that, will destroy any iron no matter how good or expensive it is. You have to use bottled water that's the secret. My oliso still good because I never put anything else in her other than bottled water.😊 Hope this helps.

    I’m so glad this popped up in my recs, love love the video and your fur coat!! Obsessed. Thank you for taking us through every step, I’m a beginner sewer and don’t really know how to use patterns very well but this was sooo helpful especially for the vintage patterns. would love to know what those heart shaped pins are? I’m assuming they’re magnets or something? Also, is there a reason why you wet the cloth and ironed over the interfaced piece?

    • @CindyLeaux
      @CindyLeaux  8 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much! The pins are basic sewing pins but they just have heart-shaped pearls at the ends. I wet the organza bc the directions for the fusible interfacing says to use a damp pressing cloth. I hope you have an amazing time on your sewing journey!! 💕

    • @nothere9295
      @nothere9295 8 месяцев назад

      Wow. Of course they’re just heart shaped pins. I’m sure that was obvious to everyone but me 😭😭😭.
      I see, the interfacing I get comes in a sheet my local shop just cuts out. That’s interesting to know and I’m wondering if I would get better results if I did the same. Thank you for the info 😊
