LEFT RIGHT is currently #35 on the U.S. POP radio charts for the 3rd week in a row. That's amazing for an unknown label in the west like XGALX and a Japanese group based in S.Korea. It's a testament to XG's growing popularity & their insane talent & charisma. There is a clip that was posted yesterday 3/18 everyone is going crazy over of a DJ DABIN crowd live stage remix of Shooting Star he did for XGs 1yr Anniversary it is ABSOLUTE 🔥🔥🔥 it's called "XG - Shooting Star (Unreleased Dabin Remix)" it how you would imagine a XG concert being. There are multiple clips on Twitter of it where the crowd is screaming and singing along its truly epic

XG have said they are a global group, not kpop or jpop. They are a japanese group based in south korea and their songs are in engilsh.
Yep! And they're under a company called 'XGALX' which is a subsidairy of a Japanese company called Avex. Their producer Simon is half Japanese and Korean, he was born in Seattle, he used to be a 2nd gen Kpop idol in a group called 'Dalmation' aka DMTN. XG are kind of "controversial" but the more you get to know them you will see them for who they really are. These girl deserve so much more! XG is everything that I want in a girlgroup! They are the only only gg I've ever been a fan of.
People are confused on where to label or group them as because nobody (girl group) has ever done something like this before. As you can see the credits at the very end of left right mv, it's a mix of different nationalities working with the group. Once you get passed that confusion, it's easy to see they're neither kpop or jpop. They are just rnb/pop/hiphop girlgroup.
So are you going to tell the hosts of Idol Champ that they were wrong to call them a Kpop group? Cause they clearly labeled them as such. We really need to stop talking about what they aren’t, and just focus on the music. Too much focus on the letter.
@@itsmausu7399 well if they didn't want us to focus on what they should be labeled as, then they wouldn't be constantly telling people how they want to be labeled in just about every interview. They even call themselves " x-pop".
@@BluePurpleGirl08 that’s up to them to decide and discuss. But it’s pretty annoying and disappointing that literally half the videos on XG reacts have top comments correcting or arguing over a letter instead of focusing on the music. But that’s just me I guess.
they are more global pop group much like what TLC, Pussycat and Spice Girls aimed for
south korea have multiple competing music shows that is why they promote there

Kpop in general hire western, japanese choreographers and producers
then 1st and 2nd gen kpop learned a lot on Japanese music market
that is why you see this 3rd and 4th gen evolution

You should check out Tippy Toes dance version. It has the same choreographer as Left Right and Shooting Star. Sienna Lalau and The Lab is very well known in the street dance scene in California. It also showcases XG's flexibility and physicality.

@@glitrcamilleif tho I may disagree with you on certain things. Like the elbow move in left right which was a dance move back in the 90s. It's just all opinions and I love that you're 100% real with yours. It helps me feel more connected to you and your videos compared to some reactors who just fake their opinions for views
Their company is Japanese and a subsidiary of AVEX that it's one of the biggest entertainment companies in Japan. Their producer (half Japanese half Korean born in the US) is a former Avex trainee and employee and their lyricists and composers are mostly westerners.
They describe themselves as a Global Hip hop and R&B group, that's why they sing in English, and their music is heavily influenced by the American Hip hop and R&B from the 90's and 2000's (this MV is a great example).
XG is part of an Avex project to create groups targeting a global audience. The girls are former Avex trainees and some of them won awards during that time. Jurin and Harvey were part of Avex shorty dance team, Juria was a special student (she was part of the J-pop group Amorecarina) and Cocona was part of the A-CE group.
AVEX has great dancers and special units, that explains why their dancing is so good that makes people think that some of the moves are edited or camera work 🤭
Their choreographers for Shooting Star and Left Right are Sienna Lalau 🇺🇸 and Kiel Tutin 🇬🇧, the choreography director is Renan 🇯🇵
Their outfits are a homage to 90s fashion like Aliyah and Sporty Spice of the Spice Girls who wore very similar fits, baggy pants and tight crop top and to Missy Elliot (one minute man) who wore the bucket hat and vest, pants with pockets/patches. 60s 70s 80s 90s Y2K fashions. Star Trek, Star Wars. And especially 'No Scrubs' by TLC music video was absolutely the camera and visual effect influence for Left Right. It's unmistakable. And I love it!
Actually, they're a global group based in Korea, all the members are Japanese. Their main styles is R&B, they have A LOT of north-american y2k R&B infuence, and they love the genre. They sing and speak Japanese, Korean and English.

What i find amazing with XG apart from the amazing vocal and rap are: you would think that some of the parts are autotuned but they can actually sing that way live, although the choreography is edited in the video for effect (slo mo), but they can actually do the same choreography effect live. They can shift from hard hitting fast moving choreo to slow motion at a snap. Amazing.

as everyone else from the comments has said, they don't call themselves as a jpop nor kpop group. but for me they're definitely packaged like a kpop group, but for me, the girls themselves don't feel like they fit the kpop female idol mold. their music is pretty much american/japanese produced. i'm counting the korean producers as american since that's the style they're emulating for me, simon in particular (their ceo/prod.) feels like he leans more towards american hiphop/r&b, rather than korean. the fashion is japanese street + y2k, and the choreo is mainly sienna lalau
they were trained mostly in japan, but they did go back and forth from krjp during their trainee days. their marketing is very kpop, but it's a smart move imo. they didn't get that much traction during tippy toes bc they didn't go to music shows at that time. they kinda blew up during mascara since that was the time they started performing on kr shows, and their company did not pull back on the budget for this release. so the kpop market definitely helped in that regard.
also idk how much you know abt the music industry in japan, but hiphop/r&b is quite popular there! there's a lot of mainstream artists in japan that has r&b/hiphop roots, and the rap scene is huge as well. i think kpop's method just made hiphop/rap more tolerable(?) for the common people bc in kpop you only get it in sprinkles and done in an easy-to-digest kinda way. xg's songs have more raps in it with 4 rappers and 3 vocalists, so that's a bit different from the usual kpop group too. also just my observation, they move differently too. not just in dancing, but the way they perform.
but those are just the more in-depth differences that i can see. xg's marketing is kpop, but everything else is a mish-mash of japanese and american hiphop/r&b/rap

XG members have give explanation about what is XG music they're genre is X-Pop the core music is R&B HipHop but they can
explore with other genre that's why X-Pop could said genre without genre (unknown musical genre).

Idk if people really explore this group as much as I did but this is where the facts are:
-They neither recognize as kpop nor jpop since the girls themselves refer themselves to RnB/Hip Hop
-a lot of their music preferences are 90s and RnB
-the label (xgalx)they are under is based in South Korea but it’s parent company is in Japan, AVEX.
-they aim to be international 11:34 11:37 group.
-they all speak 3 languages to a certain degree (Hangul,Japanese, and English)

PLEASE review their DOCUMENTARY SERIES called XTRA XTRA 0, 1, 2 because the EXECUTIVE PRODUCER- SIMON explains the concept of XPOP a new genre and the concept. It also gives you an insight on the enormous work of the very talented young girls. They are TRILINGUAL and absolutely ALL ROUNDERS. I seen some of the negative comments but they have not reviewed all of their RAP LINE.. TAPE #1 and TAPE #2 and their dynamic DANCE PERFORMANCES and I’ve never seen anyone besides dance crews or WOD dance competitions perform like MOVE 1#and MOVE #3. Kpop standards is not rap,dance,vocals and style thats western standards, kpop is using the elements of hiphop black culture created in america Rap,style,dance and western pop those are the standards you're talking about kpop standards is just the training they go through to create idols and group idols using the western standards. Kpop would be nothing without western music influence simple as that, XG is not concidered Jpop or Kpop its just Asian Pop, they were trained in SouthKorea and Japan back and forth their label is Xgalx based in S. Korea subsidiary of AVEX group from Japan. Japan was the first country to promote rap and hip hop back in the 80's no other country in asia did it, so its not unusual to see a group of japanese girls paying homage to a style they grew up with all their lives and style well they own the harajuku culture which inspired the Y2K style in the west, that's why Gwen stefani created the harajuku girls in the 2000s. XG is the only group in asia that is doing it different, singing in a global language english to reach different parts of the world and are the only ones who are paying a homage to girl groups from the 90's and 2000s groups that many people has probably never heard of like TLC,SWV,CHERISH,3WL,PLAY,DREAM,ENVOGUE,AALYIAH,
LAURENHILL ETC ETC
I will attempt to respond to your comment to the best of my ability. I am a bit confused by your point but I think I do agree with most of it.
Firstly, I agree that XG is a Japanese group based in South Korea. We also agree that XG does not fit easily into a box.
While I don't think that XG's style perfectly aligns with Kpop or Jpop, I do believe that most Kpop and Jpop standards apply to XG. For example, they were formed in the Kpop and/or Jpop industry meaning that they underwent formation and training just like other groups. You mention that Kpop standards only refer to the training they undergo. However, I disagree. Kpop also includes a very predictable marketing strategy where the company promotes dance practices, live performances, title track + bside releases, vlogs, etc. This type of marketing strategy, as far as I am aware, was popularized by Kpop and is mostly used in the Kpop industry. I personally judge this type of content based on the previously mentioned Kpop/Jpop standards regardless of whether these standards originated in the West. To reiterate, these standards include visuals, dance, rap, vocals, and group chemistry.
I also respectfully disagree with your point that XG the only Asian pop group that sings in English and reaches different parts of the world. Many Asian groups, specifically Kpop groups, have sung in English to reach a more global audience. Blackpink, BTS, Twice, Itzy... and more have done this. If XG spoke English exclusively then maybe I would get your point. This also doesn't change the fact that their marketing strategy and style still mirrors that of the Kpop and Jpop industries.
In other words, the format of XG and their content is either very similar or identical to Kpop and some Jpop groups. To me, XG is a Japanese pop group/girl group based in Korea. Their company is hopping on the Y2k trend that is becoming popular once again and using modern adaptations of the style to sell XG regardless of where Y2k originated. Many groups are also hopping on this trend. It is a very smart plan and I personally think that XG is executing the style most effectively out of Asian pop groups at the moment.

@@glitrcamille I also disagree with you. Neither Blackpink, BTS, Twice or Itzy have released only English songs, so it's really different. Also, their focus is more on raw talent other than (with all due respect and sincerity and exceptions ofc) training mid-talented good-looking people to make them idols. As a musician and singer myself I can tell they were born with that talent and only polished it more in training. Also, some parts you found funny/tacky (some dance moves and rap) in this and your last XG video are actually influenced by old hip hop like another girl mentioned in the comments.
They are not J-Pop or K-Pop. Their target demographic is Global audience, which is why they have English songs, and I heard the term X-Pop from the main guy from their agency. Is it Simon? I'm still super new to XG as well, so I only know a little bit. But it was really emphasized that they are a Japanese Group based in Korea, and they promote in Korea and have also been promoting in the USA. I watched the HITC performance, and they also did KCON. And they promote on the Korean Music shows. They have an amazing team. I also know that the same Choreographer that worked with BTS on Dionysus, ON: Kinetic Manifesto, and J-Hope's solo projects, have worked with XG on their choreography. Sienna Lalau and The Lab, based in Los Angeles. They were back up dancers for XG at HITC. Also, XG members said in an interview that they are R&B and Hip Hop, but are open to other genre's also as they grow as a group.

any international group that does promotion like the groups in korea, its kpop. Kpop is not a music genre but a way to produce artists and all their stuff. So totally agreed with you friend!

I refer to kpop as the music industry based in Korea, as it's getting a lot more international in terms of its targeted audience and music production. I think it's common seeing Korean companies working with US music/dance studio.

Just because the nationality of members in the group aren't Korean doesn't make them not a Kpop group... XG was trained in Korea and their Japanese company is based in Korea and mainly promote in Korea also, so they are very as Kpop as other Kpop group. Now the question you should really ask is why the West put every genre of music in one big basket label calls Kpop when it comes to music from Korea or maybe even other Asian countries.

No. XG is a Kpop group. Just because the members are all Japanese does not make them a Jpop group. If this is the case then Twice would be a Kpop group but their subunit MISAMO is JPOP? Makes no sense. They're based in Korea. They trained in a Kpop training system. Their producer is Korean. They're promoted in Korea and Korean shows but not Japanese shows and they have a Korean production team. So what the hell makes them a Jpop group? XG is Kpop.
Thank you for sharing your opinion! I think it is great that everyone is discussing this subject in-depth. I agree with your point. If XG was based in Japan then they would be Jpop, but that is not the case.
