Morning Olly. This song is all about Sharron's father who recently passed. Once you know this, the song takes on a different meaning. Cheers

Idk if you know STARSET or not, but the meaning behind Supernova reminds me a lot of STARSET's song Starlight, lyrically. Probably why Supernova gave me such a subtle but distinct STARSET vibe xD.

Great reaction. I love Within Temtation and their developent through the years. Their last album is very strong, and my favorite is Endless war.
Also try Lacuna Coil with their "last" song Reckless. Scabbias voice is perfect in this song. Lacuna Coil is lass symphonic and more dark metal.

This a good song but to be honest i like the acoustic version of this song they did for Dutch TV better. The song was actually written after her father died over a year go now. He died after being diagnosed with a terminal illness 2 years before. In this song she kind of expresses her desire of a signal from him that is OK now. But from what i know about her she is not very religious so i do not think she really expect an answer from him. Here the link to the mentioned clip. ruclips.net/video/f-239ZyRR7k/видео.html
There is also a clip of their very first concert in Russia after her father died. It is right at the beginning of the song "Forgiven" that audience notices that she is getting very emotional and she literally struggles throughout the whole song until she finally break out in tears just before the end of the song. The love and support she receives from the audience is heart warming. I do not really expect a review but if you want to take a look at it here is the link. ruclips.net/video/ICDJ2v8JGnQ/видео.html

Absolutely nothing wrong with symphonic rock though, it doesn't have to be metal. I don't really pay attention to what genre they define themselves because it sounds good :D This song doesn't have many surprises and sounds a bit too formulaic to my ears. I'm with a lot of commenters here in that most of their best material is in their earlier albums tbh.
Sharon always scores big points with me singing anything with that amazing falsetto tone of hers :D

Saw them in concert recently, and I have to say they put on an awesome show. They really haven't lost a beat in their live act at all. You make some good points about listening to live recordings, the only problem is that SO many live recordings sound like crap. Not because of the band, but because of the quality of the recording. So listening to live recordings becomes very hit or miss. So you can't win. :-) Anyway, I know a lot of folks don't like WT's newer stuff, but I happen to really like this last album, and this song.

Anekke, Sharon, Floor, Simone, Dianne the Dutch metal maidens club. You Know Sharon, and Floor. If you're doing Somewhere you will get a taste of Anekke. Still need some Simone (Epica) & Dianne (Ex Libris / Xandria).

I agree with you, I also prefer live versions. Within Temptation has been changing quite a bit through the years. Actually, I didn't really care much for them until I saw them live at festival. I have already seen them 3 times, plus one extra show of Tarja and Sharon (so much talent and beauty on one stage :D). They always put on a great show, they always deliver. The studio versions are just not enough. Will I buy their albums? I doubt it, but next time they are close to where I live, I'll go the their concert.

I love Sharon's voice and the music is good too. The only problem I have with this band (and ANY symphonic metal band) is that I always compare them to Nightwish and NOBODY can compete with them IMO. Cheers!

I’m not agree, Tuomas is the main composer and doing a great job and he is also lucky to have Floor. They never do things like Within Temptation, Epica or Delain, given concerts with a full orchestra and choir or make an improvisation on their work.If you look to WT video’s that proven their all over creativity. But they made great music.

While I rather like that song, I have to contest the classification of it as their "early" work. I mean, it's off their sixth album (of the seven they've released to date).

  • @draagnipur8767
    @draagnipur8767 5 лет назад +3

Meh, you should start from the beginning - when they play gothic and symphonic metal. The best album in order are: Enter, Mother Earth, The Silent Force, The Heart of Everything. Later there is era of poprock ("Hydra" was quite good)... Look for some live with orchiestra. For example "Black Symphony".
For me their best work is "Enter" album. It is the quintessence of Gothic metal. All songs from that album are blownminded. Should try if you don`t know them. "Mother Earth" album with songs such as "ME" and "Ice Queen" is fantastic sample of symphonic metal. Better symphonic then Nightwish - to be honest.
    BTW:
Best metal queens: Floor Jansen (After Forever), Tarja Turunen (Nighwish), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), Simone Simmons (Epica), Liv Kristine (Theatre of Tragedy), Vibeke Stene (Tristania), Anneke Van Giersbergen (Gathering).
You should check all of that ladies.

      No, you're right!
Most of high sound quality live performances are processed in the studio, though. There's no doubt about it. We need those to sound good.
      Uhmm...
I can sense that you, such as me, like the presence of the audience, which makes the music feel alive. And also the sweet interactions between the performers and the listeners are pumping that feeling up.
