- Leisure Process - A Way You'll Never Be
1982
Leisure Process were Gary Barnacle & Ross Middleton.
They were also known as Leisure Process International.
Guest appearance on this track from Mark King & Phil Gould of Level 42
New Wave Synthpop
Producer - Martin Rushent
Straight away you can tell that mark king
And one thing that is very evident, is that this IS a Mark King sound, and Mark King licks!
It is Mark King who plays
Hi Ross,
Your little cousin here ! This is pretty weird, as I've just burnt CDs of the Leisure Process singles for my dad and brothers. I handed them out at Iain's 50th birthday.
Great to hear you're still on the scene ! If you search for 'Under the Dome' on RUclips, you'll see I've still got a thing about synths. :D
BTW, the Leisure Process singles were all phenomenal pop music - it was a crime that they never made it big.
Lived the 80's and I know plenty. Great Track!
I've uploaded the video for this on my channel with HQ sound. Previously the only ones available had bad sound.
I remember this! Simple Minds and Japan in one go.....Great track!
A brilliant track from a greatly under-rated band. Well done Ross !!!
One of the best tracks ever written still sounds as good now as when I used play it back in the day utter class but fairplay never knew Mark King on bass fantastic tune
I've uploaded the video for this on my channel with HQ sound. Previously the only ones available had bad sound.
You know, this is a song that has been in my head for so many years. Thank you for having it here.
My favourite track of all time (I'm 50 this year and playing at my party) ..love it that people know the band members cos after all they are just regular people !!!
In case you're interested, I've uploaded a remastered version of this with the best quality video and sound available anywhere, and it's also the 12 inch version. I had to do some editing to make it work: ruclips.net/video/YxITmn3sWpw/видео.html
cheers Fyushal classic song
3:56, Hittin' the very Sparks-like vocal just like in Cashflow too....Striking similarities to good 'ol Russell Mael. A plus for the Process of the Leisurely kind!!
Bass is poppin on this one! I used to just play the beginning over and over and over. Although "Love Cascade" was the best from these guys. I have the 12"
Great sleeve too!!
Had this original 12"! Can't believe I had to get rid of it, with another 300 or so singles.
Still sounding sick, even today!!
DEADLY HOMICIDAL BASS
How this didn't chart is beyond me!
Peter Powell played it on his Radio One show on 31st May 1982, because I recently heard the show on MixCloud, so it did get some exposure to a mass audience.
The fact that a video was made means it should have had an easier time being exposed. But clearly that's not how things work.
Haven't heard this in donkey's. Killer bass licks by Mark King!!
This song is probably the best example of post-punk music I can think of.
@@ajs41so what's post-punk? It's just another stupid label. Why not call it post-psychedelic rock? It came after psychedelic rock!
Underrated band!
I don't know if it was the full set but I remember listening to the Peel show (as I always did) and hitting record as each track came on so pretty sure I got them all.
I have also got the Red Guitars session and will be uploading them soon. :)
Just dug this out of me old singles collection and showed my 18 year old lad. Not heard this in years. Great bass line
loved it
Great to hear this on RUclips!I have the 12" of this and "Cashflow".
Glad to see Ross still on the go but makes me feel old as the last time I saw him was as support to Simple Minds on the "Empires and Dance" tour in the City Halls,Glasgow!I
a masterpiece of a band !!!
This has to be the most New Wave song Ive ever heard. Brilliant.
@thirstymuse1
I have uploaded some John Peel session tracks as I couldn't see they were on here. They are excellent and well worth hearing again.
There is a 7" single version for sale on Ebay if anyone is interested.
DF is still a great bas p;ayer, much missed by Sm but now loved by FourGoodMen,he's even got guitar lessons on RUclips..if you know where to look ;)
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Almost sounds like an old Simple Minds sound. LOVE this!
great posting 5 stars! You can hear 'The Chant Has Begun' on the drums :O)
Phil is on drums too!
I posted it awhile ago
have a look at it
Sometimes I wondered. Why Level 42 never arranged & performed this one in their live (Because Mark King played bass in this one, And Gary Barnacle often playing with him) sure the sound may different, but will gave an exciting experience to music listeners than let it disappeared and fade away as time goes by (And Ross still disappeared from music scene, Sad because he's very unique singer)
Problem is no-one quite sounded like Ross Middleton when singing, least of all Mark King. I like Mark's vocals on Level 42 songs incidentally.
Best theme song when you playing board game and choosing characters .
Mark king on Bass
Mark King also on drums
Iconic Sleeve design!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!!!!
It's such a pick me up tune every time I hear it. With a razor sharp, direct speaking vocal style so ahead of it's time (reminiscent of perhaps bands like Franz Ferdinand) blended with Mark's fat bass line. It's a unique, stylish early form of Britfunk. A total stand-out tune drawing perfectly from it's time.
Ross: I have just been looking for the only photograph I still have of you; sitting in a chair (5 Clifton Wood Road), reading a thesis on Philip K. Dick. Donde esta?
best thing MK has done?? haha!! have a listen Nik Kershaw 'easy'... also alot of L42!
anyone got the remix version of Love Cascade i think it was a b side on the 12inch of this
@rumblefishthedude There's a band named Love Tractor.
@ricardoroberto100
Wow I've not been able to find the John Peel session anywhere?
Do you have the full set?
HQ video for this, including the "I was impressed when you got undressed" part: ruclips.net/video/YxITmn3sWpw/видео.html
any chance you could send me the mp3 pls?? I want to a cover of this track!
Who else thinks the singer sounds like Glen Gregory from Heaven 17 in certain places?!
@andy morris Perhaps Billy and Glen. He reminds me slightly of John Foxx. The rap reminds me of Favourite Shirts by Haircut 100.
Also looks like Nik Kershaw and Gary Numan :)
