Once you can get over Olivers there are two more key moments to watch out for. One of the rollers on the run into Mt Eliza is a little bit steeper than the others. It’s enough to pop some riders if they’ve had to dig deep to stay in the bunch, so be careful of getting caught behind someone who drops the wheel. The other one is after Mt Eliza. There’s a left turn back onto Nepean Hwy that can split the bunch. If you’re behind the split here you’re chasing all the way home.
The million dollar question!!! I reckon with riding really smart you might survive on 3.5w/kg (just) and 4w/kg you are making it. Flat bits are fine, when the road slants up that’s where the problems start 🤣. I’m due to go back re-film another attempt 👀
@@daveirvine Hmmm. So, you're saying an 83kg, 57yo, ex C grade masters with an ftp around 3.1w/kg could struggle a bit here then??? Not a morning person, so I thought getting to the start before 7:00am would be the major challenge. Perhaps that's just the tip of the challenges for me. David, did you end up going back for another attempt?
Great vid David! I gotts give this a go some day!
You’ll be fine PP - you go alright uphill!
Oliver's hill is a killer.
Yep get’s me everytime!
@@daveirvine And coming down the hill (on the highway) if the road is wet is also sketchy

@@mattdowney6540 I usually turn left to go up Humphries rd. That also kills me.
@@mattdowney6540 Cheers Matt - great tips. I'll be back in a couple of weeks hopefully to have another crack!
Whats the recommended ftp to attempt/survive one of these rides?

Not yet!!! It’s on the bucket list 😂
Positioning is everything. A good one minute power is handy too.
