I find it hilarious that he basically mentioned the crowd reaction being manipulated by the “fake” noise yet, WWE themselves did the same thing for Cena during his run.
“Wherever Cena goes, he gets a reaction good or bad.” Same situation just different ways of doing it.

  • @KalvinEllis

The funny thing is they did pipe in fake noise during Cena's era. There were so many examples where they'd show big PPV matches where Cena got booed out of the building, yet the replays or the match highlights always added cheers for him. So is he really the one to talk. Don't get me started on Roman or how they used to lower the mics during his WM entrances to try to hide the boos for so many years. WWE has been doing this forever. Theory is hardly an exception.

I actually liked the promo right until the end where Cena all but undermined an eventual Theory win saying it won't mean anything because Theory won't be able to carry the torch. That's what always hated about Cena, the fact he can't elevate anybody and conceding a defeat, because he always has to come up on top either on the ring or verbally. He should have said that to prove that he truly belongs Theory needs to beat him fair and square, so he would have upped the stakes for their WM match. Instead what Cena did is sabotaging another future star like he always did for 20 years

Batista, John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, Seth Rollins. He went out of his way to make sure to make those guys properly. He passed the torch a bunch of times.
Cena can’t really say that. He rarely ever lost clean, and even when he did, he would embarrass his opponent beforehand on the mic. It’s like his ego would not allow him to let someone just get the better of him for the sake of business.

If 2 ppl go on TV with a script an pre approved talking points an you purposely stray from that an bring up real life shit of course you make the other guy look dumb. Cena is good on the Mic, but it's easy to get one over on someone when they're playing by the rules of a worked promo and you're stepping outside of the worked promo to bury them and make them look silly, knowing they probably haven't prepared to do so against you.

When you look at some of the other greats on the mic-Ric Flair, the Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, CM Punk, Hogan, Roddy Piper, etc-they always put over their opponent somehow as a credible threat, a reason why people should watch their match at the PPV.
Cena does the opposite. Paul Heyman on some occasions will even spend the entire promo big talking his client's opponent with lines like "you've done this... you've been there, you've accomplished that... but you haven't beaten him." All that does is big up the match and even get you excited for a match you didn't care about before. The way I view that promo is a little bit different than how other people saw it, to me it was classic Cena, a few years ago John Cena cut the exact same promo on Roman Reigns only to put him over and that's exactly what he's going to do for Austin Theory at WrestleMania, and to me that little dig at Austin about him not being able to carry on that momentum is just Cena's way of motivating him because Cena knows he won't be around after WrestleMania and if he's going to put over this guy he wants this guy to take advantage of it, so while other people look at it as a burial I simply look at it as a passing of the torch and I cannot wait for the raw after WrestleMania where Austin Theory comes out and tells everybody i-told-you-so which is exactly what John Cena's promo was design to do.

I was watching the Rock/Cena segments on a binge about 2 weeks ago and yes, Cena destroyed the Rock in almost every promo battle. You will never see the Rock angrier towards a person than D’Wayne Johnson was in the ring with Cena. The crowds just hated Cena so much at that point they booed everything he said and cheered everything the Rock said. He is one of the top 3 best promo cutters on the mic during a feud I believe.

Doesn’t matter; the crowd is the ultimate judge.
If they cheer everything the other guy says while they boo you out of the building, you could be dropping early 2000s Eminem diss tracks and you would still be considered the loser of that battle.
The only thing that fans came away with after those segments was the fact that there is no replacement for The Rock, and John Cena despite his mega push still couldn’t fill The Rock’s shoes. That’s why the match was so big, it was a question of who’s the better generation.

-Losing the US Title multiple times and not establishing a solid run like Gunther
-The MITB fiasco where he failed the cash in

To add to what solo was saying about roman having more mania main events than cena... well During CENA's run as the top guy, there were more Main even level superstars. You had taker still, there, Edge, Orton, Brock, Batista, HHH was still wrestling regulatly, Benoit, bbokert, gldberg, jbl, the miz, Eddie, bryan, Punk, sheamus, rvd, ambrose, del rio, big show, jericho, bray wyatt, kane, rey mysterio, hbk and mark henry . Who do you really have now, Cody is gonna be made at mania, seth, Roman, Brock, Lashley (although he didn't get the years of protection to not get exposed on the mic like brock lesnar did). I could include sheamus and mcintyre but they've dropped down to feud for the midcard title. Rey's retiring, edge is part time, wyatt is stuck is lost in his own universe, and Miz is just Miz. Since there are less main event level talent it makes sense roman has had more mania main events. Cody will be the guy that make's the other wreestles shine. As a baby face he can be more vulnerable instead of the monster heel roman is. He may win the match but he'll make others look more credible in the loss.

Why bring cena back if he’s just gonna bury people. People still talk about when he buried reigns. And yes reigns was boring then but it’s bc he was given a boring script with a boring character. Cena himself was the same lifeless boring character that wwe had to edit in cheers bc no one liked his character and he had go away heat during the super cena era. & no that promo did not help roman. Roman got over years later when he was given the go ahead to be more of himself and got to go heal being more charismatic and allowing his own personality to shine through. Theory doesn’t have that luxury he’s still forced to read the scripts given to Im unlike a cena or reigns and cena knows this and unfairly used that against them knowing he won’t get punished but theory would if he tried.
