I was a lot more sensitive to horror as a teenager. Now I seek it. The power of Dante's confidence 😈
If DMC6 committed to actually exploring Hell as an area, I feel there’s room to bring some of the horror back.
Afe you talking about the reboot ?
I think that's a fascinating possible direction! With the departure of Hideaki Itsuno from Capcom it'll be hard to recreate the exact vibe either way, so why not just commit to switching it up 🤙🏼 I can especially see the brothers' new SDT forms fitting right in with the possible landscape of Hell
@@JabamiLain No, though I realize I probably shouldn't have used past-tense. I mean if Capcom makes DMC6, they could bring back some horror elements by making the underworld an actual, fully explorable part of the game for the first time. Like Jonas said, Itsuno left the company, so why not take the series in a new direction?
@@jonasronkanen2671Without Itsuno there shouldn't be a DMC6. Just leave it as is. Continue DmC2 if anything.
@@loregasmic I think that's a completely valid way to think ^^ However, I love the series enough that I refuse to believe there is only one man on this planet capable of making an entertaining, moderately faithful main line DMC game. Even if it's not exactly what we would've expected
There is so much I adore about DMC1. The creepiness of the island, Dante’s subtle(yet constant) excitement at every foe that comes his way, the way the glossary is presented as Dante writing notes in a notebook, etc.
It’s all just bogged down by those ultra stiff, damn near archaic controls
DMC 1 is a lot like OG DOOM, where the enemy and sound design is genuinely horrifying before you remember "oh yeah, I have a motherf*cking chainsaw" and the level of difficulty can still feel real and intimidating while also being able to revel in the shameless power fantasy.
The OG Doom still gives me the creepies and I've played way scarier games lol
Devil May Cry was intended to be a part of Resident Evil, so...
This isn't surprising considering that this game was going to be Resident Evil originally, so it makes sense that Mallet Island was designed as it is. It does beg the question of how much of the horror elements survived in transition, in between changing the original enemies and Spencer Castle and so on and on.
I think this one may be personal bias/nostalgia. The ambiance for around the first half of 5 is _haunting,_ especially that first full level with Nero. Just walking among the ashes of this city, looking at all the mummified husks of the people who lived there, so dry that they crumble to nothing if you so much as brush them... It's a haunting emptiness somewhere between the abandoned ruins of a zombie apocalypse and the smoldering devastation of an atomic bomb.
It comes down to this: 1 gives you the impression that something really bad may be about to happen. 5 gives you the impression that something really bad has most _certainly_ happened, and you're heading right for the source.
(Edited to make the stupid text formatting actually work)
And thats why the city levels are my favourite. When you stop and really soak in what was happening around you, it is genuienly horrifying to see. Husk parents still holding their kids, begging and praying for their lives, whole cities completely ripped from the ground by the tre, blood rituals and massacres either commited by the humans and the demons. One of my favourite moment is in Mission 7, upon exiting the train station, you see the accursed Qlipoth Tree, turning the Earth into an apocalyptic hell.
Really wish the 2nd half of the game is as horrifying in its imagery
@@edrickt5907 Mission 9, 11 & 12 , where you see entire city blocks ripped from the ground by tree roots. In the depth you can barely make out the bottom, sometimes submerged in water. And whereever you look up, there's this towering massive tree - the source of this destruction, intimidatingly close.
Yeah, the destroyed city truly sells the vibes of horror in the apocalypse style.
That does make sense. It shows how he can overcome these dangerous creatures with wit and style
Dmc 1 has my all time favorite atmosphere.
I do miss the creepy atmosphere of Mallet Island... it did creep me out as a kid when I first played. Especially the chapel with the weird, pulsating pillars, and the mirror world.
It is a horror game, the horror being there's this half-demon guy running around, not only killing people but doing so in style
That might have something to do with the fact that it was originally supposed to be a Resident Evil game
the first one is definitely the best for these reason alone. His outfit too. Dante job IS dangerous, I love how you pointed that out. I hope Hideki Kamiya brings it back, if he returns to the Devil May Cry team.
People didn't even know that there wore actual fatalities in the first devil may cry.👌🏼
I just imagined him getting a random spotlight while he dances in a big dark room going "im bad, you know it"
Well the atmosphere was supposed to be for RE4 before it was re-purposed for DMC1
Dmc1 felt more lonely than dmc5,4 and 3 because you kept meeting all sorts of people, lady, the order members, jester, nero, V, trish, but in dmc1 for most of the game there was only dante and horrifying dark churches
Yeeees! The setting for DMC1 is my all-time favorite! Followed by DMC3
This is literally because dmc1 was supposed to be a resident evil game which is crazy to think of that they just got a beloved franchise out of a cancelled game. 😂. But fr they should at least give us a remake of 1. The horror vibe is pretty cool for an action game 🎯
Imagine little 10 year old me playing this at 1 am. Ibget double the crrepimess from the ps2 unsettling intro and then devil may cry horror
I love the OG devil may cry setting. the music as well, i almost miss it. id love a revisitiation of it. where the 3D castlevainia games of the PS2 era had a good design, the gameplay didnt do it for me, but DMC did a great job of being castlevainia esc (even if it wasnt intentional.....plus the Underworld of DMC1 was creepy as hell, the living womb hell setting just worked, and the score and monsters made me feel both exhilirated and creeped out
I am still patiently waiting for the next part of Vergil May Cry.
I think the closest we do get has to replicating mallet island's sense of dread, is mission 2 of dmc5. That fucking intro, paints a genuinely haunting situation combined with the music, plus the entirety of the abandoned hotel
It sucks that we probably won’t ever see a new sequel to 5 but I think it’s a possibility that they could remake the first two or three games.
Agreed there's always something about the og game from every game franchise that just invokes that sense of nostalgia what can I say
That one eye demon scare me so much that i jump lol
Fun fact. DMC 1 was supposed to be a Resident Evil game before it became what it is now. Some elements call back to this fact, like how he went by Tony Redgrave for a while in both the manga and hinted at in the fifth game. Tony Redgrave, being the name the protagonist of this technically RE4 title.
This day, it’s still my favorite
DMC3 chess mission was the most horrifying of them all
Honestly, I feel like 2 really did try to keep thay dark, gothic atmosphere and apply it to a more mordern setting. Granted, because 2 is... 2, this had mixed results, but I think it kind of works. It doesn't hit as hard due to the wide open spaces, but the strange, organic growths on things, the blood red water, the enemy design being focused on torture devices early on, and the general lack of blues in the environment does give off this eerie feeling to everything.
Shame its 2.
When the game looks like survival horror but the player character is a hack n slash badass. 😎
To be honest even till now I do get goosebumps when facing certain enemies that’s gives me Mr x vibes
Mallet Castle has never been recaptured they kinda tried with Fortuna Castle in 4 but Mallet Castle is just special.
Agreed. I love everything about DMC5 and it's almost the perfect DMC game, and the reason why I say almost is because of the setting. Mainly the missions that take place in or around the Qliphoth because everything looks the f***ing same. If they remade DMC1 with the gameplay of 5 that would be the perfect DMC.
Fun Fact for those who don't know the orginal Devil May Cry was supposed to be Resident Evil 4 but after they noticed they were using more demonstrating and magic they made it it's own thing. As a staple with all RE games is they lean more on science not magic.
I'd absolutely love another devil may cry game within a darker setting.... or another devil may cry game in general
I personally think DmC is the only one (besides the first couple of DMC 5; especially Mission 2) to get some of that creepy aura back in some way.
Limbo constantly shifting and changing how certain things look in the human world is VERY COOL and makes the setting unpredictable (you never know when the world around you is going to change or how it's going to twist itself in order to try to kill Dante).
Yeah its just beacuse itbwas planned as resident evil 4 but it took a different path and i love that. 🧡💙
I played dmc1 first time in 2018 and it was soooooo good, it has its flaws but it's still so enjoyable
If Capcom ever does a Remake for any of the DMC games, I feel 1 is the one that deserves it the most.... second to 2 but it would make sense to do the first one.
I mean it's almost like DMC1 was built on the corpse of the og RE4.
DmC Devil May Cry was going to bring horror back, but sadly fans didnt let it
Amen and Hell yeah
I platinum’d DMC 1💯
Until I realized: Wait, I'm Dante.
I miss when the game was about Dante
DMC 1 = best one
Dont forget DMC 1 was made to be resident evil 4 but it did not happen.
Bring alastor back!
i want to click like but it's at 777
I’d disagree the tree in Dmc five scares Tf out of me same with the new demons they gross asf
Nah
That's why 1 is my mf favorite 🗣️🗣️🗣️
