what i would try for the nail strenghtener/peely base stiuation would be to lay on a thick coat of the strenghtener and let it dry really well, then buff it so the top layer is coarse, that way i believe the peely base would adhere to it better. i've never tried this so it's not a recommendation, just a suggestion that might be worth trying lol

I was going to suggest you put a self-sufficient terrarium up on that shelf but I donno what lower light plants do well in a terrarium. My terrarium jar has ferns and an African violet in it, but I have literally never had to water it and only have opened it about 3 times in like 2 years... removed some old leaves and added new tiny plants but it really didn't require me maintaining it, but I do have a sansi clip light aimed at it... Another option would be cacti but again lighting, same with Lithops or livingstones since they both like watered like 4 times a year LOL I love the book idea though! Another option if you do really want a plant up their would be to take one that trails and keep the pot down low and use those 3M plant hooks to train it up and across the wall! Like a simple pothos or adansonii or philodenron brasil... Other options could be air plants but that depends a TON on your ambient humidity... in summer it was 70% in my house so I didn't have to bother with my air plants but now they are sitting in their bath tub (an antique upside down butterdish) soaking like once a week... Anyway just some out of the box thoughts on how to get plants up there that you wouldn't need to access more than like every 6 weeks (or less depending on the plant)

I recently read a book called 'A short stay in Hell' by Steven L. Peck and I would highly recommend. It's a very short one and a real page turner, and I think it would be right up your street, I would also love to hear your thoughts on it.
