    This is exactly why I DO NOT hair type. My hair isn’t algebra. Hair should just be cared for and maintained, not “typed”. We should just appreciate our uniqueness and keep it moving.

      We have white skin, light skin, tan skin, brown skin, and dark skin. So why can't we have straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair, and tight curly hair ?? It's all beautiful, yes, but there's still a visual difference......and that's all that's being said.

  • @queue30
    @queue30 5 лет назад +17

    Here's my take: A pure type 3 will have to scrunch and diffuse. A pure type 4 will have to stretch hair. A 3c-4a will use the dryer/try to keep their hair exactly the way it is.

      Xariah Ashantae Curl type (3C/4A) is different from texture. Some 3C/4As have a fine silky texture and some have kinky strands or a mix. Curl type is about the size and look of the curls while texture is about the feel.

    FYI: you can have “multiple porosities” throughout your hair along with “multiple hair textures” in areas of your hair.. Just do what works for “YOUR” hair.. And of course that varies from person to person.. Each of us have different heads of hair..💁🏽

  • @FitNeeks
    @FitNeeks 5 лет назад +27

    People get hair texture and hair curls confused.
    I feel like people see your hair and see the texture and automatically put you in a box. People can have more than just one hair type. I myself am a mixture of 4a/3c. You’re definitely a type 4. If we are speaking of curl patterns your curls are coils. But honestly, you can have more than one curl pattern, and only you have the ability to say what that is. You spend the most time with it. You see up close and personal.
    Hair porosity is WAY more valuable and important when dealing with your hair. Hair typing is pointless when caring for your hair. Knowing your hair porosity is key because it means you know what your hair needs and lacks to get it to where it needs to be. Black hair is so beautiful, we are a combination of everything just like our hair. Regardless, your hair is BEAUTIFUL and it’s making people go crazy out here.

    You are totally right. It really is not a big deal what type of hair you have. That is one of the biggest problems in the natural hair community and it tends to take away how beautiful each hair type is. Once you are taking proper care of your hair that is all that matters.

      Mia Nicole New subbie here! Many of us have a combination of curl types, textures, and porosities throughout our head. Your hair looks a lot like mine, a mix of 3C and 4A (kinky curly). I also have some 3B in one area. Also texture and curl type isn't the same. I'm 3C/4A with fine, silky hair strands (that's the texture) but some 3C/4As have kinky feeling strands. You can have a mix of porosities too so depending on the hair that you tested with....you get what I mean. At the end of the day, people of African descent have lots of different curl types and textures that can't even be determined by the hair typing system. It was created by Oprah's long time celebrity hair stylist (can't think of his name right now); it is just a guide not the end all be all. Your hair is beautiful. Just keep it healthy.

    My hair looks exactly like yours except it’s shorter at the moment (big chopped for the second time) & consider it to be 4a. When my hair was longer, the curls became more weighted down & it does manipulate how the curl looks slightly, but it’s still 4a. 3b/3c is a much looser curl. People think because you have definition means you can’t be a type 4! I was seeing people say “Oh if you don’t have an Afro you are not type 4.” HUH? Lol, that’s not how it works. 😂

    I've been natural for 27 years and non of this mattered until recent years. It's like ppl want to feel like they have "good" hair meanwhile good hair could be 5 inches long, where 'nappy' hair could be down to the person's butt bc they know their hair. It's so divisive!! What matters is the relationship you have with your hair, meaning, how well do you listen, observe and actually KNOW your own hair. Know your hairs porosity and never waste $ on products!! treat your hair WITH LOVE! Just like skin, everyone's hair will be different and you must treat your hair like an individual. Happy hair journey, everyones hair is beautiful when you love on it!❤❤❤

    Low porosity doesn’t stay dry. It’s just hard to get the moisture in. Once in it stays pretty moisturized. And our hair takes forever to dry. I said this on a more recent video, but it’s def 3C/4A combo. Some are 3C, some 4A and some look like a mixture. Hair is also typed when wet/damp, not dry. But in the end, as long as it’s healthy, that’s what matters most.

Please do a video on your hair journey with pictures if you can, I would love to see where you started and how you got to this point.

  • @Deklectic
    @Deklectic 5 лет назад +1

    Yeah people also don't understand that type 4 hair loosens as it grows due to the weight of the curls so type 4a as it grows tends to almost mimic 3c hair the longer it grows so the two constantly get confused with one another. My hair is shoulder length and as it grows it dramaticly starts loosening and mimicking type 3 when its moisturized and hydrated simply due to the weight of the hair opening the curls.. In the end it doesnt matter because none of us have the same exact curl pattern even if it appears to be identicle hair is like finger prints its very unique to each person no matter the race of people. As black people some of us forget we are the most genetically diverse people on this planet so our hair textures are so unique to each of us individually so no curl typing chart will ever be 100% accurate its impossible so the chart is just a gauge for what ever range your hair texture falls into so it can help with styling and techniques for hair care that are good for what ever your range is.

    The thing about the porosity test is that it’s best to get a strand from the root, and also a strand without any product after a fresh wash. Product buildup can not only weigh the strand down but also keep water from getting in, producing a false result.

    I love hair and studying about black African hair, its my hobbie tbh. I think the reason why people or viewers see that you are not considered as a 4 hair type because, I believe that it is impossible to create a wet look on 4 hair that is fine or thicker, coily/kinky wet looks just doesn't work. From what I can see you have medium to high density, thick, maybe fine, you know your porosity then sis that is all that matters. I was more interested in hair textures so that I could find the right hair combs and brushes that is suitable for my kinky coily fine strands and high porosity it's a lot of work. Like some books say that black hair have different textures and is true because I have tested and hopefully one day I will put my content out there. Do you, I like your videos, your bun technique actually help me as well. Thank you, have a beautiful day ☺

(I find it calming for some reason to watch other women of color do their hair🤷🏾‍♀️) anywho you have yourself a new subscriber 🥰💯💖👍🏾 anyways, I'm a mixed breed chick with legit shit different hair types/textures... seriously.....my family is from all over the Caribbean, (Aruba, Dominican Republic, St.Lucia etc etc) so my genes def got it all, my Oma (grandma in Dutch def has the hair type Americans WILL label "that good hair/Spanish girl hair" etc her mother/my great grandma, was Dominican, and her hair type was in the 2's...while her dad coming from st.lucia hmmm I can't tell cuz he had a buzz cut/army cut style so I don't know) my mom got a mixture of different hair types considering the fact my oma's ex husband was an American citizen/ African American....so she got his type 4 hair, as well as her mother's and Grandma's type 2-3's hair, and the thing about genes is that you can pick up on a relative from far back in the family tree that hasn't been seen in a while, some of my relatives are white, my mom told me one of her uncles was a man of color with sharp blue eyes and damn near straight hair. So it's not to far fetched that his genes circled back around and my mom got his hair type as well, and she has blue that circles the outer rims of her brown eyes. So over all my mother has straighter type 2 or rather 3a hair in the front and sides, and various type 3 in the middle and back. And as for me being her daughter, I have it too, straighter in the front and sides/looser curls/coils/waves or whatever...... And as for the very top/middle it's about 3b-4a. (My father's side of the family is a mixture of African American and Indian. And I can see it so hardcore in my father's mother. But when I wanted to know what tribe she wouldn't tell me and was giving me sarcasm 😂.) But everyone in my family tree uses water and gel or some form of custard/pudding and keeps it moving. 🥰😁💯 So in general I said all that to make a point of saying it IS possible for a person of color to have more than one hair type on their head😎👌🏾👍🏾, we are walking testimonies of that. As for porosity, mine and my mother's is low porosity. My hair is Fuller and thicker while my mom's is thin cuz of her Lupus.(which is known to making your hair thinner😓😫😞) the sad thing about this world is that most of our people want looser curls so bad, they still try every day so hard to get type 2-3 hair, and that's why THEY binge watch videos to see what they can do to look like the mixed breeds. Point blank period....most people haven't truly embraced their hair and get comfortable with the hair type they were born with. It's that simple. And for those who would argue with me about it saying that's not true ARE the ones who want looser curls. Why else would people be getting butt hurt over it? Why else would they be willing to argue with YOU about what hair type YOU have?! 🤷🏾‍♀️As if they are pushing you(and possibly others they connect with) to claim the end of the spectrum of looser curls/coils. Most women of color is still fighting so hard to fit into the beauty standards the world has set in order to fit in and be called "Beautiful" not understanding that being on the darker color spectrum of skin tone IS GORGEOUS actually, and having full thick crown of tight curls is STILL JUST AS SWEET! (Hell I still get a little salty when I want to rock an Afro but can't cuz my hair won't stay up in the correct form) our women simply need to stop wanting to fit into mainstream media standards and love what they have. POINT BLANK PERIOD. They can't change what's in their genes.

    I would say you have 4a that's the size of my curls on the top half of my head and it's voluminous but my back is a mixture of 3c and 3b not very voluminous so my hair looks like a mullet shape😣 that is until I stretch it🙏🙌. You could just say 3c 4a mix to cover basis for those questioning it.

    I’m glad you did this video for some clarity. Just like you I’ve always looked at others to determine what hair type I am but then end I realize what type I am cause I feel like most people use it to divide the curly hair community. I think your hair is beautiful, it’s very similar to mine hence why I am a subscriber of yours 💕

    I've gone through this too. I thought I was type 4, but I hear 3C. Even 3B/3C. I said maybe I'm 3C/4a hair, but it just gets so confusing and it's too much. My hair is whatever I claim it to be. You can be multi-textured as well, so I honestly don't know how that hair typing stuff works. Maybe we need to redo the whole hair typing chart if it's that serious.
    Since we have similar hair and I'm subscribed, I figured we were type 4 🤷🏾‍♀️ Keep doing you though.~

    hair type doesn’t matter just shows you what your hair would look like in certain styles and that is still a maybe. porosity, density, thick/thin hair strands is what makes a difference in how your hair handles products, styles etc. everyone’s hair is different don’t matter the hair type and type 4 hair comes in so many different variations and people think that if it’s not super course then it’s not 4 no! people don’t know shit and always mad lol your hair is what you think and say it is!

    How is your hair cut ? Like the style ? Did you cut it on straight hair or a curly hair cut ?

    • @MiaNicole
      @MiaNicole  5 лет назад

      I tried to cut it in layers but it was a fail. It’s shorter in the front and longer in the back. And I cut it on wet hair.

    I think you have S shaped 4a curls. I think it's rare for someone with type 4 hair to have S shaped(wavy) curls instead of C shaped(looped).

  • @lynnaih2689
    @lynnaih2689 5 лет назад

    I think you have type 4 hair I see type 4a but you’re right it doesn’t matter because most black women curl pattern is different in each part of their hair due to heat damage or chemical damage but your hair looks beautiful.

    Man that’s he my hair is now... it takes a lot of products to get it to curl and to feel moisturized and I think I’m high porosity too with the test. What did you change? Like Shampoos... Deep Conditioners... etc. And waging routine. Because I’ve learned that my hair love silicones but I don’t want to use them all the time.. I gots to get this together lol

  • @LynetteDenise

    I don't think hair typing makes a difference. I just use what works. It is impossible to type my hair, because I have 3 different types on each strand. It grows out straight from the root, then becomes wavy and curls on the ends. I don't know what you would call that. At any rate, your hair is beautiful!!

    you have 4a bc they think when the texture of you hair is soft that its 3c and that when its wet its 3c but when you hair dries the curls are tighter.

    I wonder what's my hair type . It's not silky but when I put products on it , it's really curly and pretty. I think I'm 4a 4b ... My cousin has 4c cause no matter what products she put on her hair when it drys the curls disappears.

  • @angelab3076
    @angelab3076 4 года назад

    id say its definitely 4a because im 3c with some 3b and your curls are pretty tight and small even while wet, but I definitely understand why hair typing isn't productive because density, coarseness, and porosity also play a role

    I see why you did this video! They was going @ it in the comments!🤦These #'s for hair is getting out of hand! Thinking about it, it seems like another way to divide &conquer. I'm looking @ it on a deeper level...It's hard trying to figure out your hair type... But to figure out porosity it's supposed to be on fresh clean hair w/o any products on it, so I'm not sure if the hair from ur brush had products, but do it freshly washed w/o any products!...Anyways, I was doing the same thing as far as seeing certain types of hair that was similar to mine w/certain products&would go out&buy those products and using oils &my hair was very dry&brittle &lifeless after trying all that stuff so I dont think my hair likes oils so🤷I was thinking each person has to do what works for them!👌

    I dont like the hair type system its annoying and I feel like hair type in a way changes especially as our hair grows longer it can start to appear looser, so idk.

  • @princesskai13
    @princesskai13 5 лет назад

    For me hair typing doesn't matter; it doesn't mean anything literally its just the physical appearance of ones hair but that doesn't help determine how beautiful your hair is or what products to use.
