The worst part? As Andor shows, you don't even need to make a show feel particularly like Star Wars for people to see it. You don't need the Force. Or jedi. Or lightsabers. Or Tatooine. Or The Millenium Falcon. Or Han Solo. You can make a Star Wars show that lacks all of that, and people will still want to watch it. All you need is for it to be... good.
I'd argue they killed it by letting a trio of directors create a trilogy of movies without them apparently ever even talking to each other, much less figuring out a coherent plan for how their movies would fit together... So basically, The Last Jedi killed Star Wars, and Rise of Skywalker was the coffin it was buried in.
they could've gone so many directions with the sequel stories. They could've focused on the Imperial Remnant and told a story from their POV, they couldve introduced the Yuuzah Vong, or focused on rebuilding the Jedi, but no, those nitwits decided to just make a much much worse version of the OT with an empire clone.
It's more than embarrassing, it's depressing that out of all the ways they could have gone, with all the resources and lore at their disposal, they just threw it out. At least it's easy to ignore Disney SW, I kept my books and comics.
I feel disney was trying to kiddify star wars on some level and push disney ethics. What i feel is a good representation of disney sw issues can be found in Star Wars Rebels. At the start, it was very disney. Giving off Alladin in space vibes. The villains were just to nice. Treating the heros like school trouble makers. But then Tarkin shows up, kills two guys for failure and all but the sith guy were mortified. That there is the problem. The disney stuff was just to kiddy. And star wars was meant as a mature show all can enjoy.
@@thewingedhussar4188 Rebels is a weird example since only the first season or so is that light-hearted and also people actually like that show Also it's funny to mention how the problem is Disney is trying to "kiddify" the franchise, as if there haven't been attempts to kiddify it pre-Disney (Ewoks/Droid cartoons, Cavern of Courage, Clone Wars animated movie, Jar Jar's whole existence, etc. etc. etc.)

@@azeniagallavantus2326 I think it was a bunch of envious and mean-spirited competitors of John Favreou *cough* Filoni *cough* who couldn’t handle the fact his ideas were succeeding while theirs were effectively burning down the franchise. S2 only needed the steady hand from S1, but instead it started to wobble and by the end of it we had what should have been the conclusion to the entire show and an unnecessary Luke-cameo. That wrapped it up for me and it honestly did not matter what came after in the Fett show or S3. They ended it before it had a chance to breathe. What a shame…
The core problem of Disneys star wars is that they are a risk averse company, and as such run and write their stories and brand that way. The best example is the Boba Fett show, where a gruff merc who has no allegiances to anyone gets retconned into a bumbling nice guy, destroying his character and broke the story before it had even started. Star Wars as a franchise was built off of risks, and now its safe, predictable and boring. It's everything it shouldn't be.
And the risks it does take, like The Acolyte, are just really weird ones that ends up undermining entire concepts and ideas from the original trilogy. The Last Jedi had risks, but the risks were also really odd. It was meant to almost be an anti-star wars movie. It tried being risky, but it didn't go far enough and so it ended on a safe, cozy note which contradicted like, 75% of the message it had lol. Disney just can't make good marvel or star wars movies or shows anymore. They don't know what humans are, or what humans like. They only know what statistics and lines like.
@@DetectiveMekovaLast Jedi suffered from trying to "change things up" too late in the game. The problem with Solo wasn't lacking Ford. Fans simply wanted something authentic which Disney is incapable of doing. Getting an actor that looks like young Ford would have helped (there was one guy that people wanted) but the main issue is that it didn't feel like Star Wars. This is the problem with all of Disney's stuff. It simply doesn't feel like Star Wars. It feels less like Star Wars than fan films. This goes deeper than a lack of soul.
Not entirely true about actors having to look like the older actors that came before them. Star Trek 2009 had some actors that looked totally different but could still act the part and that was good enough. It's all in the story and script.
That's how he writes. It worked for LOST because it was episodic and before streaming, so he could get away with making shit up and had time to make sense of it

Mfw the best piece of Star Wars media from Disney (Andor) has no mention of the Force in it, Its almost as if the Jedi and Sith shouldn't be the main focus of everything.
Yes and no. There's an entire series of spin offs about the Rebel pilots that have nothing to do with Jedi or Sith. But Disney has no idea how to do either Star Wars or the Jedi and Sith. It's gotta be the suits making these decisions.
Right??? I was never a huge Star Wars movie fan as a kid (was just the original and prequels at the time) but I looooooovvveedd those faux educational lore books that talked about different worlds and cultures in the universe, biology of different alien species or monsters, all that fun stuff. Ofc they mentioned the force and jedi/sith here and there but it was absolutely not the main focus. That sense of wonder and adventure and strangeness is what I enjoyed, and you could do SO much with that. But, they'd need to allow creatives who love the universe to take risks and they can't be having that!
@@kosmosXcannon Rogue One was my favorite out of the Disney movies and even that one had some problems I didn't like. I remember reading somewhere that it was originally going to be a gritty war movie but with a star Wars skin suit and I really liked that idea. It makes sense, right? Regardless, they had to tone down the grit because R movies don't sell as much. Yet, they'll make The Force a female entity, and a lesbian at that. I always interpreted the force as a purely neutral entity that doesn't have a clear will, but anyone sensitive to it whether they're good or evil could wield it. It's that over explaining again.
Porgs were a necessary add on coming about almost by accident. They shot episode 8 on an Irish island that was also a puffin nature preserve. In order to film there at all they could not disturb the puffins, and they ended up in the background of nearly every shot. They invented Porgs as a way to explain away the Puffins. digitally changing all the background puffins to Porgs, or leaving them out of focus.
Don’t think so much, Husk. Just consume the ever flowing stream of content and acquire endless piles of plushies and LEGOs and ignore the entire concept of quality.
I've got a friend that compulsively tears apart media because the way he cares is the hell of coming up with ways for it to be better and being powerless to update the thing with his improvements beyond fanfiction and forum ranting. That's why Star Wars fans "hate" Star Wars, they love it so much that it angers them when it sucks. Similarly, people in fanbase, while outsiders might see them as odd, are also seen by outsiders as authorities. If you want to watch a funny B-movie horror flick to rag on with friends, you go and ask the person that swears by their VHS collection if they have any suggestions. Logically then, if a common consumer asks a Star Wars fan "Is there a Star Wars movie I should watch before I see this Acolyte show?" they will be told, "Skip that one, it teased a sequel it's never going to get. We should start by watching the movies called episodes 4-6, and see what if anything you end up liking about them." and the common consumer will not watch Acolyte.
Honestly, it's offensive how they took audiences for granted thinking anything with the star wars name would sell. Not saying general audiences are smart, but they shouldn't be understimated either.
Funny thing is if I remember correctly this wasn't the first time that has happened with Star Wars, if I remember the MMO Star Wars the Old Republic was also banking off being part of the Star Wars IP, even though it was a very clear wow clone(to the point one of the Talent trees for one of the classes at launch was exactly the same as it's equivalent in WoW) and that MMO ain't doing to hot ATM.
Never thought I'd see the day where a *Transformers* movie is treated with more respect and creative storytelling than most Star Wars media in the last few years
Another way Solo died is the reshoots. It was originally helmed by Lorde and Miller, a more comedic duo responsible for the lego movie. But midway through shooting they had a falling out with Disney and Ron Howard was brought in. This led to massive reshoots that pushed the budget up and delays. Because of this. Solo not only ended up with a 250 million dollar budget but had an early May 2018 release that had it competing against Avengers Infinity War still riding high in theatres. Disney shot itself in the foot in so many ways with that movie. The movie itself is fine. Just fine. Has its fun moments and is an okay choice if you have nothing else to watch. RIP Star wars
I will never forgive Star Wars for taking an excellent non-Jedi story and ruining it with annoying Jedi. It was so nice to see an average guy (as average as you can be in such a dangerous universe).
The Mandalorian had SO much potential as a “adventure of the week” type of structure, but with mature(ish) themes and new original characters. Then the end of season two happened..

It's crazy how hard it is for a company as big as Disney to understand a simple concept. Bad movies, games, etc. = less big fans that will basically be a marketing department to casuals = less people seeing the movies and buying games and merch. Like this is really not rocket science, they have everything they need to succeed, just make decent media and the money will roll in.

As a wee, innocent lad in the late 2000s, I was actually _afraid_ that Star Wars would eventually lose relevance and that there would be no more new movies, shows or even video games. If you went back in time and told me that the _prestigious_ Walt Disney Company would not only make a new Star Wars trilogy, but multiple interconnected shows, both animated and live-action, I would've been ecstatic! *...I would later come to realize that death is a mercy and that there are far crueler fates in this world.*
Perhaps all the "dead" franchises, Star Wars included, will be able to live again when they're put in the hands of the average joe through the public domain
When it goes public domain it's more likely they'll make some edgy art and a bad horror movie, if Winnie the pooh and Steamboat Willie are anything to go by.
There are decent fan made shorts out there for just about everything. You can generally get away with it as long as you aren't trying to make money from it.
For all these long running franchises, it isn't that the original stuff was perfect and flawless. We know that. It's that the people making it cared about the fans and the legacy they were creating and/or following, so they worked to make their stories worthy. The new people making content for these IPs seem to have contempt for the fans and legacy of the property. They only care about themselves and putting out their personal stories, whether it fits or not.
Exactly! I never claimed TNG was perfect or Voyager. I never doubted though that those behind it loved the property. They slipped but also didn't blame the fans for issues.
It all comes down to giving the fans and creators the proper respect that they deserve. Having a good name goes a very long way and is more stable than instant gratifications/profits. Disney has now tarnish their name and what they supposedly stand for making their downfall be seen as just and deserved.
Reshooting the movie twice didn't help either. Seriously how hard would it have been to have Solo join the imperial academy and not the damn army? He's know for his piloting skills.

The bleeding started with Rian Johnson. There were issues, JJ did not do anybody any favors with his first movie, but there was a lot that could have been built off of and some of the bad stuff could have been swept aside by a writer that had more talent than ego. Johnson was riding higj before his star wars movie. Everything he touched was turning to gold and he was given a sub par set up for a movie. So, instead of running with the sub par start he decided to slam the reset button. He had to keep the characters and the overall plot but everything he could cut was cut. He believed he could save star wars and instead he left a second movie in a trilogy with no ties to the first and no story set up for the third. The last movie was awful but there was never any hope for it. Then we got Mando. Mando was great, Mando sold toys, Mando was popular. So, like most idiotic leadership, they teathered everything they could to the successful thing hoping it would drag everything else along with it rather than drag it down like what ALWAYS happens. Throw in Boba Fett and then tie his series to it. Throw in Luke then Ashoka and have their series tie into it. Mando became a bloated mess as the talentless hacks clung on to it for dear life. It drowned as a result. So, movies failed, good tv series were failing, what is a moronic exec to do? Burn it all! If nothing seems to work throw as much into the pipe and hope something sticks. Doesn't matter if it makes sense, if it is even remotely related to the IP, or has any relation to anything in the universe, we are bleeding gotta rip at the wound to heal it! So, everything became rushed. Movies that were obviously supposed to be movies got stretched into TV series because MOAR! Every character gets a spin off! Hype is all we have, pump the member berries! Now nobody cares. They beat the dead horse until it became dust and are still trying to sell dust rides at $50 a pop. Disney Star Wars is over. Star Wars as an IP is not though. There are a LOT of good stories a passionate studio or fan could adapt and make work. Fans will come back, just not for Disney anymore. Sell it off, spin it into its own company, then use existing stories (and stick to them!!!) and fans will return. Disney won't do that though, $50 dust ride until they put it in their vault and try releasing it once a moon until it seems popular again is all we have to look forward to.
I can't believe how they messed this up. They literally had hundreds of really good expanded universe books to pull from. They could have easily adapted many of those into movies or show. Instead they threw it all out. What a waste
I think what bothers me is how many of these shows can't be pitched without a reference. If I have to do homework to fully understand why your show is a big deal, that's not a show, it's a fan wiki.
To me, it was clear that Disney wringing the neck of the golden goose till it was dead was not a matter of 'if' but 'when,' especially once they announced the Marvel approach of releasing a stream of mainline and side movies in short (12-24 month) order, along with the TV shows.
I find that companies should be really careful when it comes to marketing your products and services. There are class distinctions between (die hard) fans and casuals. It's very risky to piss off or to cater to only one of them. Getting the balance is hard but doable but Disney is really failing at this in the past couple of years.
I dont agree. Most of what the big studios in Hollywood do is tinged with a jaded cynicism. Disney just wants your money and they are more likely to employ C-level psychopaths than relentlessly positive true believers.
It’s absolutely insane to me that they screwed up merchandising. I remember as a kid with Phantom Menace to Revenge of the Sith most of the stuff you consumed that was good was outside the movies. Jedi Power Battles, Pod Racer, Jedi Starfighter, Dark Forces I and II, Jedi Outcast I and II, Battlefront I and II, Empire at War, Republic Commando, Knights of the Old Republic I and II…those are just the best, there are others that were still pretty good but not amazing like Phantom Menace, Bounty Hunter, Shadows of the Empire, Battle for Naboo, hell the Twisted Metal derby game they made was pretty fun even. Since Disney got their hands on it and gave it to EA we’ve had two mediocre Battlegrounds, a mediocre Squadrons, an okay Jedi Fallen Order, a pretty good Jedi Survivor, and an Ubislop Jedi Outlaws. In ELEVEN YEARS. And that’s just the games, they screwed this up in all other avenues including toys, books, comics, etc. Unbelievable.
One thing everyone can agree on is attacking fans directly and actually literally telling them to stop watching was not doing Disney Star Wars any favors. I noticed this trend with The Last Jedi, and it got worse from there.
One thing new fans should keep in mind is, if Disney was willing to deliberately push away the old fans, they will eventually push them out too. Why be a fan of something that will eventually, deliberately reject you?
Im still baffled that they bought a billion dollar franchise and didnt even bother to flesh out what was going to happen in the new trilogy before they made the movies
It’s not even that they don’t respect the fans, it’s that they don’t actually have a creative vision, a story they want to tell. They just want to make something as standard as possible so it will make as much money as possible
The biggest misstep with post-2014 _Star Wars_ was not bad writing, but Lucasfilm's employees actively bullying and vilifying fans who criticized said bad writing. Because Disney itself is more interested in the brand making a profit than how it goes about doing so, they didn't dole out any punishment, resulting in the general public getting the idea in their minds that it's perfectly fine to bully _Star Wars_ fans, regardless of what their school taught them about not bullying others.

I still remember the hype I felt when the first Battlefront reboot released and Episode 7 got into the cinemas and I really miss that feeling. It's been years since I've been somehow excited about Star Wars and I really wish for a game or show with a world and story that I can lose myself in again. There has been nothing that ignited that spark again for about 7 years now for me. It's a damn shame, really
Star Wars was declared dead in 1999, 2002 and 2005, this is nothing new. A large number of Star Wars games were complete garbage at that time too. They just need to stomp on the brakes and let the franchise cool off for 10-15 years or so.
There is not one single thing that broke SW but alot of bad decisions. I am still of the opinion that even though the prequels are bad tjey were made with enthuisasm and love. There are still people involved in SW that are enthusoastic and want to make good shows (also in Acolyte, but the shows feel produced like on a conveyor belt, not created. Bur the bad decisions were there from the start: the fact that the sequel trilogy didn't have a plan but they were just winging it from movie to movie is a TERRIBLE decision. The fact that Last Jedi (that from a quality perspective may be the best sequel) made terroble decisons in term of establishing a new star wars continuity. They also made the very dumb decision of drawing a line in the sand and telling people that on one side is old star wars on the other is disney star wars and theyhave to come over to disney star wars or leave. Making Filony a creative director with little oversight us also a bad decision. The guy famously said he dislike to work within the constraints of continuity and it shows in both clone wars and the disney+ shows where his storylines start to make the timeline between episode 6 and 7 muddy and incoherent.
With Marvel I'm not so sure, Deadpool & Wolverine managed to gross over 1.3 billion dollars at the box-office and well received by audiences, you could argue that it's sort of a 20th Fox movie, but it has a lot of connections with the MCU, there's also the recent X-Men '97 and Spider-Man 2 for the PS5 was a success for Sony IE. Though that actually brings me to mention that there's a bigger problem in regards why Marvel has better chances to still be popular while Star Wars struggles, and is that Star Wars is a very U.S. centric franchise, though SW has considerable following in some countries, Disney wanted Star Wars to be the next big thing at a global level, we saw how hard Disney tried to push Star Wars in China with Ep. VII, but Star Wars films don't resonate that well in China, and in some other Asian countries, except maybe for Japan, and even in Japan foreign films don't perform that well as they used to (Avatar 2 wasn't that big of a success in Japan, despite the original grossing over 100 million there), and it's mostly due to the fact that there isn't a lot of nostalgia for Star Wars in various countries across the world, but super heroes, like Spider-Man, are much more well known internationally

Finn was a stormtrooper who was mourning the death of his comrade and then 5 minutes later blasting the hell out of them and cheering. Its irredeemable trash, its just that people turned their brains off.
@@april3534 I would say Force Awakens is just passable. Nothing good or bad, because it was too safe, but passable. Could say it had cracks showing back then. It was the Last Jedi that blewup those cracks. I did like Rogue One, probably the last good movie Star Wars had put out.
They didn't ruin Star Trek they simply effed up the first 2-3 seasons of Discovery, Strange New Worlds more then made up for it. Also you forgot Sisko, show some respect.
The Part that really annoys me is they did a disney did a trio of really good star wars movies. They just happen to be called guardians of the galaxy. Seriously get a good director, have them write the three movies as a solid vision, and do them at the same time so you can actually follow a plot line without your cast dying (drops rose at both leia and ackbars grave). and yes Tem and Ming deserve more love and more kicking of ass.
With each day that passes I'm more convinced that the reason Mandalorian season 1 managed to be a good, more personal and low stakes show that didn't delve into the Skywalker's disfunctional family was because Favreau and Filoni managed to fly under the radar with a low budget while the last movies were being made. Hell for the last episode they needed more Stormtroopers and they called local Star Wars cosplayers to take part! Once the execs took notice they started inserting nostalgia bait and putting baby Yoda at the forefront and into every piece of merch imaginable. Seems no industry can trust management these days 😢. The idea of the competent leader is dead
I "was" a devoted SW fan. I've done TCW marathons a lot. I did like EP7 when it came out(but not anymore. I despise of it) and still love Rogue One and Mando, didn't dislike Solo and BoBF, and enjoyed Ahsoka. 8 was a shatterpoint for me and 9 was one of the nail in the coffin but still loved SW. The Coffin wasn't buried yet. But... Acoshyte... this completely destroyed my love of SW. Not only the show itself but also how shills attack again against fans who are not liking it, especially the hate movement organized by Star Wars Explained against Star Wars Theory has completely nailed down and buried the coffin. I'm not sure if I will ever regain my love and interest of SW to the level I used to have.
Ep 8 was the first time I had left the theater angry to the point I didn't care to watch Ep 9. I did start into the old EU and while it can be a bit of a mess, it's keeping my interest in the franchise alive.
What a well made and analytical video, I felt like it needed to be said. I remember loving season 1 of The Mandalorian so much and thinking "this is it, they got it" and I didn't feel that again until I watched Andor.
I find it funny that they genuinely managed to ressurect Star Wars's reputation after episode 9 (with mando and the final season of clone wars), only to immediately burn it down again.
Disney probably took Star Wars fans for granted, thinking that they’ll gobble up anything with the Star Wars name on it. They instead tried to market the franchise to the rare kind of people who didn’t already like Star Wars, which apparently was the Tumblr audience.
@@Badmunky64 I dunno, man. If they wanted to cater to the Tumblr audience, they'd have Captain America hook up with Bucky instead of Peggy. Y'all give Tumblr too much credit.
I don't think Disney has handled the franchise perfectly but to put it all the blame solely on Kathleen Kennedy's feet when Bob Iger was the person that chose to throw out the Lucas' treatments for an ST, and also rush the movies so they could make their profit back as quickly as possible, you start to understand the issue is larger than a single woman. On the streaming side of things, most of the shows aren't as bad as people make it out to be. It's more of an issue that they're not all good enough to be must watches, so you end up with a lot of shows that do have an audience but don't capture the masses. Also the jab at Leslye is really cheap, there is nothing to indicate she knew what her boss was up, as an Acolyte fan I would've liked to see more of her vision and I respect those that don't want that but we can criticize the show without resorting to cheap character assassination.
If you want a very good example of an entertainment company doing a 180 into a good direction, look at how awesome WWE has been with their product. The fans are very happy, WWE is breaking arena records and grossing records for events. If you listen to your audience, the hardcore audience tells the casual audience, thus growing interest. Listening is key to selling.
Whether you think it's pissing off the core fandom, failing to develop a new causal base, increasingly bad quality, or the cynical cash grabs, one thing is always prevalent when discussing Disney Star Wars. Disney thought Star Wars was too big to fall. That it had nothing to prove, and could rest on the laurels of its legacy. Everyone has loved Star Wars, everyone does love Star Wars, and everyone will love Star Wars. And that's why they failed. They banked on an invincible ship, scuttled its parts to sell, and wondered aloud why it's sinking. Not realizing that the work they inherited, though flawed and simplistic in many areas, are held together by an authentic enjoyment of a product by its community, as well as a genuine reverence from its contributors in the Expanded Universe, creating good media that get people invested into it. Star Wars was, most of all, respected as both a timeless classic and a franchise of consistent greatness and passion, and Disney broke that respect years ago. Tl;dr the bar used to be a lot higher than the Mariana's Trench.
Decanonizes 30 years of expanded universe lore (but still sells the material without giving a cut to the original creators). Realizes it has barely any original ideas so picks a bunch of stuff out of the EU's dead carcass. This is Disney.
What do you mean dead? What do you mean when you say “Star Wars is dead”? Most Star Wars stuff is still successful, they’re still making lots of projects with books, comics, and shows. Soon, more video games too. Lots of people are still into the lore too.
One thing that we learned about TLJ is that fans want nostalgia, not a break on the status quo. Disney understood and we got RotS, a movie that felt similar to Return of the Jedi. Just look at Mando; the moment Gouru became a marketable character, the series went to mediocrity, and stopped being innovative because Baby Yoda prints money. Both Disney and the Fandom aren’t killing Star Wars; but they are making sure that the next generations forgets about this franchise.
I see Disney with Star Wars and Bethesda with Fallout in kind of a similar light. They both bought an IP they didn’t fully understand, and then overemphasised the parts they thought they understood in an effort to appeal to the general public, and ended up with products that…well, I suppose superficially they created a “Star Wars” or a “fallout”, but that lack the deeper elements that made those stories and universes compelling and attractive The worst part is, neither IP will ever recover fully, because in order to fix what’s wrong with both of them, their respective owners would have to admit they fucked up because they’re dumb (which sucks, because I’m incredibly autistic about both Star Wars and fallout)
lol I'll say it sucks ass just to spite you. Take your nostalgia goggles off and you'll see wooden acting, dumb characters, plot elements that needed to be explained but never were, overused CGI, and overly choreographed and passionless fight scenes.
I want this out there somewhere; I never liked Star Wars, even when it was good. I recognize it has it's moments, but overall, i do not like it. To me, it has the structure of High-Fantasy with a Sci-fi coat of paint, and i cannot get passed that. And every time i've thought about trying to get into it (at my cousin's behest), the whiny toxic fandom griping has turned me away. I'm sorry y'all, but i am not sorry about this... Battlefront II classic was fun tho.
What I can't believe is how anyone thought it could go any other way. It's Disney we're talking about---this is _what they do._ Milking a series for all its worth can be annoying even when something is good, and a series can survive a misstep or two if they're infrequent enough, but if you push out a constant torrent of _nothing but_ missteps... But then again, I was never a hardcore fan, so I guess I never cared enough to _want to_ hope. I rolled my eyes at Episode 7 already (I can't even remember its name) and lost the little bit of attachment I still had right then.
For all their issues the prequels were something made with passion and imagination behind it (for better or worse) Disneys movies in general feel like something made in a boardroom

I think you are 100% wrong on that one. It all comes down to Bad Writing and Storytelling...

What i feel is a good representation of disney sw issues can be found in Star Wars Rebels. At the start, it was very disney. Giving off Alladin in space vibes. The villains were just to nice. Treating the heros like school trouble makers.

YES! FUCK THAT! I was getting into it, and then it was like the Mandalorian highjacked the show and fucked it all up.
This. Companies being risk averse / safe with what they put out can themselves be at risk for sliding in to irrelevancy.

It's also how there was so much character assassination and things that didn't need explaining getting a backstory.

Yes and no. There's an entire series of spin offs about the Rebel pilots that have nothing to do with Jedi or Sith. But Disney has no idea how to do either Star Wars or the Jedi and Sith. It's gotta be the suits making these decisions.
Rogue One largely didn't really have Jedi and Sith in it as well. I am obviously ignoring the ending part with Vader.

Ofc they mentioned the force and jedi/sith here and there but it was absolutely not the main focus. Porgs were a necessary add on coming about almost by accident. They shot episode 8 on an Irish island that was also a puffin nature preserve.
Very astute point about fan bases

Say it louder for the people in the back
People didn’t hate “Solo” because Harrison Ford wasn’t in it, they hated it because it took a huge steaming dump on the character.
Reshooting the movie twice didn't help either.
Seriously how hard would it have been to have Solo join the imperial academy and not the damn army? He's know for his piloting skills.
@@razorburn645 Not in Disney’s shitty version. There were really good Star Wars mobile games that Disney killed just to maintain EA exclusivity.
Star Wars: Uprising was excellent. Disney murdered it.
KotOR 1 and 2 are on mobile. Apparently you can even install the TSLRCM for 2
Even then, EA treated Star Wars with more respect than Disney. That exclusivity contract was bad idea though even if the games we got were decent
@crestofhonor2349 nah i still haven't forgiven EA for battlefront 2 even if people say the game is good now what they did back then is something i will never forgive them.
Corporate greed will always suck the creativity and originality out of a lucrative franchise.
Don't forget incompetency and virtue signaling and tokenism.
Film industry: im literally dying without money, and it gets worse when i try to earn more
Video Game industry: first time?
To me, it was clear that Disney wringing the neck of the golden goose till it was dead was not a matter of 'if' but 'when,' especially once they announced the Marvel approach of releasing a stream of mainline and side movies in short (12-24 month) order, along with the TV shows.
Mandalorian went from good show to "The Grogu Show" because that works on the "Mom" demographic.
I find that companies should be really careful when it comes to marketing your products and services. There are class distinctions between (die hard) fans and casuals. It's very risky to piss off or to cater to only one of them. Getting the balance is hard but doable but Disney is really failing at this in the past couple of years.
Look up the recent Concord interviews about "Toxic Positivity" in the production.
That's what's happening to a lot of Hollywood.
I noticed this trend with The Last Jedi, and it got worse from there.
blaming/attacking fans was part of the woke trend in general.
15:14 With what sauce?
Don’t forget about the Kowakian Monkey Lizards!

You hit the nail on the head with the apathy point. Sadly, with this generation of Star Wars, new fans will be indifferent to this abysmal content and the franchise will either have a slow death, or a transform into something unrecognizable to classic Star Wars even worse than it currently is.
Star Wars has been one of the big pillars of my childhood. I especially got into it around the time the prequels released and watched the hell out of Episode 3 and Clone Wars.
Nooooot quite, it got more money than you think. They are still Star Wars at the end of the day.

I feel like this is a bigger problem with a lot of media rn. Because companies have to be hyper focused on "line go up" they try and play things safer and safer which ends up just creating bad slop. Well, it think it was always supplementary material that they made to sell stuff, and this side stuff was always messy in relation to chronology. What they did with Rogue One seems to work with the canon in a more efficient way, not having to make use of any big name, like having to put Luke there (besides Vader, that was indeed forced to appear in the movie by the producers)
Disney killed Star Wars right at Force Awakens. That is the truth. People simply started to notice the decay a bit later.
And the casuals, the people who don't care and just turn their brain off never realized it was dead until they subconsciously lacked the will to watch more of one of their series.
The force awakens is a good movie-it’s fun, casual, and safe-but people ignore how blatantly episode 7 rehashed the original trilogy. Down to the character archetypes. I wouldn’t even call it nostalgia bate; it’s just plagiarism. While that started the sequel trilogy in a fine spot, it would have fallen apart by the end. Audiences need to be invested in the new characters, not in how similar they are to the old.

Eric Cartman as Kathleen Kennedy is never not funny
They both bought an IP they didn’t fully understand, and then overemphasised the parts they thought they understood in an effort to appeal to the general public, and ended up with products that…well, I suppose superficially they created a “Star Wars” or a “fallout”, but that lack the deeper elements that made those stories and universes compelling and attractive
The worst part is, neither IP will ever recover fully, because in order to fix what’s wrong with both of them, their respective owners would have to admit they fucked up because they’re dumb (which sucks, because I’m incredibly autistic about both Star Wars and fallout)
Everyone who said the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy was terrible quite frankly needs to apologize.
lol I'll say it sucks ass just to spite you. Take your nostalgia goggles off and you'll see wooden acting, dumb characters, plot elements that needed to be explained but never were, overused CGI, and overly choreographed and passionless fight scenes.

What I can't believe is how anyone thought it could go any other way. It's Disney we're talking about---this is _what they do._
Milking a series for all its worth can be annoying even when something is good, and a series can survive a misstep or two if they're infrequent enough, but if you push out a constant torrent of _nothing but_ missteps...
But then again, I was never a hardcore fan, so I guess I never cared enough to _want to_ hope. I rolled my eyes at Episode 7 already (I can't even remember its name) and lost the little bit of attachment I still had right then.
