+Random Person There's no wtf about that. Don't be such a stereotypical American. If I had to be an actor and play the role, I'd do the same. I cosplay Bellatrix, but feel uncomfortable being the 'nympho' crazy violent screamer she is. So when I cosplay her, she's condescending, disses people and makes sharp remarks about others. And every so often, curses a few swears around and calls people stupid bitches and then I continue my day. Sometimes people want to do dramatic potter photoshoots, where (it looks like) we choke each other or commit a murder to Dobby/Sirius. But I feel uncomfortable with that. So the condescending part does fit me. But I wouldn't be able to fake-hurt someone, or I'd réally have to hate them in real life.
In general when playing villains you have to realize you're playing a tole and character and you're going to have to say horrible things for the camera in-character as part of the performance to sell the art. I recall a story about Dejango Unchained where Leonardo DeCaprio was uncomfortable with a lot of the racial-slur filled dialog and Samuel L Jackson took him aside and told him "we're both adults acting in a movie and you're playing the bad guy, just deliver the dialog and stop screwing around"
Why is it we can acknowledge the realism of situations (race relations) when in a comedic setting yet will not seriously acknowledge that same realism (racism, prejudice) otherwise?
That's one of the functions of comedy, good comedy enables people to say/confront things they'd never say otherwise. Think of All in the Family... purposely intended to get us all talking about race.
While I think D DiGiorgio made a good point, I'd also like to add that SNL has a largely liberal (meaning anyone left of center) audience, the same demographic which has been more willing to acknowledge these things. There aren't as many conservatives watching this, and maybe they wouldn't be laughing as much.
@@ddigiorgio8438 Thats a good (and very true) point. The only problem is, that approach to topics like racism tends to remain in comedy and rarely spills over into real life. So its like we can talk about it as long as humour takes the real sting out. But when its time to discuss 'the sting', its a problem to talk about.
Excellent question. Comedy is often like philosophy. It interprets and reflects life back to us, and often points out what is absurd. This is what makes us laugh. Here, the absurdity is having a white person of today saying the horrible words that historically were spoken so easily.

"You know, I feel like my character would be looking away...alot.." hahahahaaaa!
The actors that played the cruel slave owners in the film were cringey-good. Very convincing. Difficult scenes to watch. I can't imagine having to say those lines.
Try finding a new word used of "cringe" you sound like a child.
@@niceone4370 And you sound like a brat.
@@niceone4370 Cringe isn't a new word.
Michael Fassbender really nailed that role .
Yep, they got the Brit actors in for that.....They´ll say anything!
12 Years Auditions: Nervous actors audition for the controversial film, 12 Years a Slave. #SNL #SaturdayNightLive
Fantastic movie
Excellent comedy!
Very good movie real
i 3> snl
This was great. I love how SNL isn't afraid to make fun of hot button issues. Keep it up
I Heard Jim Parsons got the part of "Shelton Cooper" on TBBT with this small part on SNL.
*bug eyed*
I've never even considered how insanely difficult a role it would be to be an slave owning racist.
*shudders*
marlon patrick wtf....
Josephine Thornton its not for seasoned actors
+Random Person
There's no wtf about that.
I couldn’t do it, I could be any type of villain just not a slave owner
In general when playing villains you have to realize you're playing a tole and character and you're going to have to say horrible things for the camera in-character as part of the performance to sell the art.
I recall a story about Dejango Unchained where Leonardo DeCaprio was uncomfortable with a lot of the racial-slur filled dialog and Samuel L Jackson took him aside and told him "we're both adults acting in a movie and you're playing the bad guy, just deliver the dialog and stop screwing around"
Kenan is one of the most diverse actors. PERIOD. SOO underrated
Jim Parsons just cracks me up!
that take on Jerome and camera part made me laugh
lol "If I was you I'd keep an on that camera"
You butchered that quote...

Best line in the skit.
Lmao
First guy was awesome! Aww! 😂🤣
SNL can take any topic and make it hilarious! True comedic genius.
I’m truly in tears 😂 this is definitely one of my favorites 🤣🤣🤣👏🏻
Bruh 😂 I was laughing so hard I was crying this is one of the best SNL skits I've ever seen
I don't know how many times I've watched this and it's still hilarious.
Jerome’s unrelenting stare!!! 🤣🤣🤣
And when he asked if there were any “Northern parts” 🤣🤣🤣
"Script?" Hahaha funniest piece besides the stare down by the camera guy
Bobby consistently seems to be getting better
""I dont wanna be seen with that""
"She's nothing but a.......""
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thee look on Jerome's face was priceless.
That "Southern" accent!😂😂😂
Sounds even funnier to Southerners who can laugh at themselves through those who hear us like this.🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of the funniest skits ever

Thats a good (and very true) point.
I am in tears watching this in a diner.....people looking at me crazy!!
2:30 "looking away"
Nice Dixie reference ;)
