I first became acquainted with this wonderful work in 1964 when I heard it on WQXR radio in New York and immediately purchased a recording of it by Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Zdenek Chalabala. It had been released by Supraphon and was available in the United States on the Artia label. Since then, I have listened to the piece thousands of times as performed by various orchestras, but I have never encountered a detailed analysis until now.
