I don't really get it- the ending! How come Wei Wuxian doesn't have a home, any companion, any responsibilities or anyone who needs him? He was unhappy when he couldn't help rebuilding lotus clove and he was unhappy in the burial mounds. So it's clear that he can't live alone. It ended like he doesn't know what to do or where to go. Even though you put it in a poetic way, but it felt like Lan Zhan called him just to tell him the name of the song. It's frustrating.....
MOonstrUCK nah look because of the censorship they couldn’t show that Lan Zhan and Wei Ying lived together happily ever after. So when Lan Zhan says Wei Ying at the end it’s to show that he came back for him. See the change in Wei Ying’s clothing? That indicates that quite some time has passed since they parted.
I don't think he really contributed to Lian Fangzun's death tho, after all in my opinion he just helped Wei Wuxian in little parts of the drama (in the novel he participated more) and all he did was figure out the truth, which Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji also discovered (granted, they had Wei Ying, who heard the other fluting sound) but I would say they are equals in intelligence.

Yessss...! My gut was getting wrenched to pieces as I sulked watching them walk away from each other. As the camera pans out and zooms back in to WWX playing Wangxian on the flute, LWJ's Wei Ying truly saved my soul from shattering. I am complete now that I know they got their happily ever after.

It's already a happy ending.. At the first sight of the last part of this ep we see: WWX asks LZ if he isn’t going with him (after Wen Ning and Sizhui left them), LZ remains silent, implying that he is not. However, shortly after, they are shown playing a song together in different outfits at the Cloud Recesses and discussing how WWX didn’t expect LZ to become His Excellency. Then, they leave the Cloud Recesses with Nie Huaisang. Afterward, LZ accompanies WWX to see him off. However, after each scene there is a gap of time that wasn't shown directly.. Given that there is a distance between the place where WWX asks LZ about his departure and the Cloud Recesses, it suggests that after learning that LZ wouldn’t be traveling with him, WWX returned all the way with him to the Cloud Recesses and stayed there until LZ assumed the title of His Excellency (evidenced by their changed outfits, indicating that time has passed). Subsequently, WWX felt the need to continue wandering the world. Naturally, LZ respected his decision and accompanied him to see him off. Time passes again (noted by the change in WWX’s outfit), and eventually, WWX returns to stay with LZ. So, before WWX's departure, they had spent time together; the passage of time was depicted through changes in their outfits and LZ’s new title. After a period away, possibly months or years, WWX returned to be with LZ once more.

I want to draw your attention to different attitudes from Wei Ying and Lan Zan to Nie Huai Shang. The first time viewers probably question “who is Nie? Why he brought WY back to life without ever admitting it?”. Nie Huai Shang was like a fly-on-the-wall, completely in the shadow of two leading men’s glamour. He fainted and cried so often almost ridiculous. He had great porn collection, happily gave one to WY to let him tease LZ. But in reality he outsmarted everyone, he was the first one who realized JGY was the murderer of his brother. Facing a very cunning and powerful enemy, he took the hardest responsibility bestowed upon him, transformed himself from carefree to calculating. First, in order to survive he had to fool everyone into believing he was just a dumb I-know-nothing weakling. Second, he needed help in his long shot revenge, who would be willing and able? Nie was a playmate (not a soulmate) of Wei Ying back in Cloud Recess days. Their paths didn’t cross much since then, but WY’s reputation has skyrocketed through slaughtering snaketurtle, then further in Sunshot and Nevernight battle. Nie admired his old friend from the distance. He concluded that the only person who could help him was the super talented, compassionate but long dead Yilin Patriarch. Lan Zan was not a talker as usual, he just replied NHS’s greeting with a deep bow - unnecessary and unusual for his superior position. He never liked to pretend, he used to ignore Nie when they were still peers in Cloud Recess. His perceived “arrogance” and “coldness” even cost him a dangerous enemy - Su She. This deep bow should be interpreted as “Regardless of your intention I am deeply grateful for your bringing my love back to life. After 16 years of waiting in unknown, I finally have chance to indulge him, protect him, stand by him, fulfill my untamed yet untold love with him.” -WY’s warning remarks to Nie were for Lan Zhan, and LZ’s bow to Nie was for Wei Ying. - The power duo naturally acted like one, their true love shown at its finest detail! This show is applauded as “masterpiece” by worldwide audience despite that it was a pure fantasy rooted in ancient Chinese culture. Love, family, friendship, gratitude, evilness, greed, injustice, revenge are the eternal themes of mankind anytime and anywhere. The unpredictable plot, rich characters, directing, OST, costumes, sceneries, sets, great attention to fine details, outstanding acting made audiences go back and forth re-watching just to understand and appreciate more, and always find something new to be reckoned with. And every major character had their own arcs, their strength and weakness, their thin blurry line of goodness and darkness. Every character felt their actions were justified from their own perspective and circumstances, just like real life people. Brilliant portrait of human nature.

For those who might not know, SiZhui is a combination of the words "Longing for" and "Finding". The name originates from a poetic line meaning: "Longing for you the one that I cannot find". Lan Zhan gave this courtesy name to A Yuan just to express implicitly how much he loves Wei Ying and how desperate he felt when Wei Ying had gone.

Something I took from The Untamed and won’t ever let go of: “Only because it’s evil, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad.” Wei Wuxian did something out of society’s norms, and was considered evil, etc. but he did it and used it to protect those who he loves and are weak. This ending is important because it's so symbolic. People were obsessed to see Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan's married life (which I understand) but we don't understand how symbolic this ending is. The directors had to deal with the censorship but by doing so they still gave us a symbolic ending. In this final separation Wei Wuxian says the same words as when he and Lan Zhan separated in episode 27. "I don't know where i'll go, but the world is big..." and Lan Zhan in episode 27 told him that he couldn't go back (because of the rules of the orthodoxy). But the context in episode 50 is totally different. This time Wei Wuxian has a safe home to return to (when he'll be ready). And this thanks to Lan Zhan. Taking the role of Chief Cultivator, Lan Zhan takes on the responsibility of defending the weak and defeating evil just as they both promised. (The chief cultivator is the leader of the cultivation world, he influences the various sects, he has the power of "summoning the winds and controlling rain".) Lan Zhan wants to form a better world where outsiders like Wei Wuxian are no longer kicked out and persecuted. That's why Wei Wuxian can now walk away without fear that the dogs will chase him. That's why Wei Wuxian will be able to return in total peace, with no more regrets this time. Even apart, Lan Zhan will always protect him and will be by his side. I don't even agree that Lan Zhan would never let Wei Wuxian go. uh, Lan Zhan always respected Wei Wuxian's freedom. And this is love. he never tried to put him in a cage like his father with his mother. Yes in his heart he would never want to leave him, but this is not a real goodbye and they both know it. They both have a strong confidence and trust as they never had before. We can understand that the two will return soon together and this time forever. Because they are each other's home. Honestly watching The Untamed was the best decision I’ve ever made and honestly was the only thing that kept me entertained and emotionally invested during Quarantine. This drama made me laugh,scream,go UwU , get mad and Cry so much and yet I am still not over it and imma watch it all over again

Yes. They are all amazing. They put so much effort into this show. If you look at one of the behind the scenes (bts) episodes Xiao Zhan (Wei Wuxian) say that Wang Yibo (Lan Zhan) had not slept for 2 or 3 days but still filmed no matter what. And Wang Yibo had said that Xiao Zhan was also filming another show at the same time as this one and yet the charatcers never mixed and he never lost that spark he had. Forever will be the best Show I have ever watched.
in the cave, when LZ first plays this song to WWX, he asks what's the name of the song and as he falls asleep, we see LZ blurry and dont hear anything but his lips apparently say "wangxian"

Idk why ppl complain about the ending. Lan Zhan doesn't want to force Wei Ying to live in Cloud Recess with him that restrict him with rules. He knows Wei Ying's character and wants Wei Ying to make the decision himself to live with him. After they parted ways and sometime passed, Wei Ying was shown to be back on the mountain at the back of Cloud Recess, showing he had decided to live together with Lan Zhan and played their song again. Just then, Lan Zhan came to see Wei Ying and said the song's name: Wang Xian, and the look on Wei Ying's face literally showed how relieved and happy he was that Lan Zhan accepted him after all these time. This is the most beautiful and powerful ending that deserves praise.

I think it’s more realistic this way as Lan Zhan was just waiting for Wei Ying to decide himself that he wanted to be with him at Cloud Recess. That’s why Lan Zhan thought that “he is way ahead of Wei Ying” regarding their song’s name. He is ready to spend his life with Wei Ying since their time at turtle cave, but he knew that Wei Ying wasn’t ready yet :D

This is the same mountain as the one shown at the beginning of the end credit scene, the one where lan zhan was shown to be bathing at. The thing about this drama is that it’s more than just a drama. Weiying is more than just a character. Because of Xiao Zhan's amazing acting skill, I feel like I’ve known weiying so well as if we’ve been friends for years. All the characters are well written. Every role in this drama was portrayed very well. Not even an episode is boring. Yibo portrayed Lan Zhan so well. The weird thing is, lanzhan and weiying didn't converse much but u can feel their strong bonds as if a thousand words were spoken. The trust and love lanzhan has for weiying is so beautiful and pure. Looking at their first encounter, who would have thought that they'll be this close. When the world goes against weiying, there's lanzhan still believing in him. The ost are amazing. They got me crying all the time. The lyrics are so touching. I don't think I'll ever get over this drama. The best Chinese drama ever! Truly a masterpiece :’)

Lan Zhan felt lonely and sad at the moment to part ways with Wei Ying and at the end you can hear him calling Wei Ying and we assume that he decided to tag along with his soulmate. Such a heart-feeling drama teaching us the meaning of friendship and trust and I really loved and enjoyed it!! Thumbs up to the actors and the entire crew for the hardwork.
So wwx was the reason Jiang Chen lost his golden core. It's because he wanted to save wwx that he got cought instead and ended up loosing his core. Wwx didn't even know of this fact and still saved him. He also kept his flute. Jiang Chen hasn't been a bad bro after all😭. So sad

This drama demonstrates that we don’t no kissing scene or much more to make a series romantic. This is probably one of the best series I’ve ever watched.

That is perhaps nicely tied with the name of Wei Wuxian's sword, _sui bian_ , 'as you please' (although it's usually translated as 'whatever'). In the novel the series is based on, the two characters definitely end up as lovers, even husbands, and together, travelling together to deal with evil in the world, and also spending some time at Cloud Recesses. That is right after Wei WuXian has discovered Lan WangJi loves him, and has finally declared to Lan WangJi, 'I fancy you, I love you, I want you, I can’t leave you, I _as you please_ you'. And Lan WangJi does tell WEi WuXian the name of the song, which is a combination of bits of both their names joined together: 'WangXian' (or sometimes called 'WuJi'). Because of censorship, the TV series couldn't show that homosexual relationship. So the series creators chose to end the series this way. So in this ending, I take it that Lan WangJi has turned around from the path he was walking and has come instead to find Wei WuXian. Perhaps this is because he heard the song Wei WuXian is playing again - 'WangXian'. It might be the next day, but not too long after they parted and went their opposite ways (Wei WuXian's robe is different from the one he was wearing when they parted, but the location is still those bare mountains, so Wei WuXian hasn't travelled very far yet). So Lan WangJi arrives behind Wei WuXian and L'il Apple, and says 'Wei Ying'. Wei WuXian stops playing abruptly - is stopped in his tracks - because he didn't expect it. Then he turns around and sees that Lan WangJi has followed him and come for him after all. So he smiles in relief and happiness. Presumably, the implication is, Lan WangJi has changed his mind and means to travel around with Wei WuXian after all. Alternatively, I suppose he could be going to persuade Wei WuXian to come back to Cloud Recesses and operate from there. Either way, I'm pretty sure the implication is, they're going to be together, join forces together, and operate for good together.

I don't really get it- the ending! How come Wei Wuxian doesn't have a home, any companion, any responsibilities or anyone who needs him? I don't think he really contributed to Lian Fangzun's death tho, after all in my opinion he just helped Wei Wuxian in little parts of the drama (in the novel he participated more) and all he did was figure out the truth, which Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji also discovered (granted, they had Wei Ying, who heard the other fluting sound) but I would say they are equals in intelligence.

Yessss...! My gut was getting wrenched to pieces as I sulked watching them walk away from each other. As the camera pans out and zooms back in to WWX playing Wangxian on the flute, LWJ's Wei Ying truly saved my soul from shattering. I am complete now that I know they got their happily ever after.

However, shortly after, they are shown playing a song together in different outfits at the Cloud Recesses and discussing how WWX didn’t expect LZ to become His Excellency. Then, they leave the Cloud Recesses with Nie Huaisang. Afterward, LZ accompanies WWX to see him off. However, after each scene there is a gap of time that wasn't shown directly..
Given that there is a distance between the place where WWX asks LZ about his departure and the Cloud Recesses, it suggests that after learning that LZ wouldn’t be traveling with him, WWX returned all the way with him to the Cloud Recesses and stayed there until LZ assumed the title of His Excellency (evidenced by their changed outfits, indicating that time has passed). Subsequently, WWX felt the need to continue wandering the world. Naturally, LZ respected his decision and accompanied him to see him off. Time passes again (noted by the change in WWX’s outfit), and eventually, WWX returns to stay with LZ.

Maybe something almost unnoticed but here Wei Ying touches Sizhui's ribbon. And the ribbon can only be touched by siblings, spouses or parents in this case. Subtle but very heartwarming 😊
And the way sizhui lowered his head.. he really loved his wei ying papa. When sizhui got thrown into the temple the way both wei ying and lan zhan ran to sizhui.. this little family how precious their love and care for eachother. In the novel when lan zhan is not around lan zhan had told Sizhui to take care of wei ying . That is so beautiful.. I think Wei Ying is the most spoiled wife in mxrx novels.

I want to draw your attention to different attitudes from Wei Ying and Lan Zan to Nie Huai Shang.
The first time viewers probably question “who is Nie? Why he brought WY back to life without ever admitting it?”. Nie Huai Shang was like a fly-on-the-wall, completely in the shadow of two leading men’s glamour. He fainted and cried so often almost ridiculous. He had great porn collection, happily gave one to WY to let him tease LZ. But in reality he outsmarted everyone, he was the first one who realized JGY was the murderer of his brother. Facing a very cunning and powerful enemy, he took the hardest responsibility bestowed upon him, transformed himself from carefree to calculating. First, in order to survive he had to fool everyone into believing he was just a dumb I-know-nothing weakling. Second, he needed help in his long shot revenge, who would be willing and able? Nie was a playmate (not a soulmate) of Wei Ying back in Cloud Recess days. Their paths didn’t cross much since then, but WY’s reputation has skyrocketed through slaughtering snaketurtle, then further in Sunshot and Nevernight battle. Nie admired his old friend from the distance. He concluded that the only person who could help him was the super talented, compassionate but long dead Yilin Patriarch. He persuaded Mo XuanYu who was another illegitimate son of Jin Clan’s leader and another JGY’s victim to give up his physical body to WY to exchange for revenge. He also released his brother’s blade near Mo village to attract Lan Zhan. Being physically weak himself, he designed a strategy to use the two best cultivators to work for his cause unknowingly. With many twists and turns, the whole truth was revealed. At finale, Nie personally delivered a cruel death to JGY by tricking the only man JGY ever loved and respected into thrusting his sword into his heart. The biggest beneficiary was Wei Ying, with JGY’s death, he was released from the cursing spell, he was once again a free man with cleared reputation and conscience.
Wei Ying should thank Nie a million if purely for his own sake, but he did not. Surprised? You should not. His signature trait has always been putting his loved ones’ interest WAY HIGHER than his own. He had paid ultimate price for that in his previous life. Now that his beloved Lan Zan stepped onto power pinnacle of cultivation world, Nie would be a formidable enemy if he started to get power hungry. Some of his tactics were already in gray zone. He deceived Lan Zhan’s brother LXC into killing JGY by falsely accusing him of something he didn’t do. Wei Ying confronted his benefactor with a shot of thinly veiled warning, “We all underestimated you, now we know what you are capable of. You have done your revenge, don’t further use your scheming skills to do evil or to aim on His Excellency out of personal greed”. NHS replied he only did what he had got to do, he has always longed for a simple and peaceful life. ( this is actually the meaning of his name, HuaiShang) You should also notice NHS's expression changed in face of WY and LZ. He was more confident and self-assured, he was now more like their equal not just a "fan" or an "inferior". After all, he proved himself to be a strategic planning mastermind and a master-in-deception SECOND-TO-NONE.
Lan Zan was not a talker as usual, he just replied NHS’s greeting with a deep bow - unnecessary and unusual for his superior position. He never liked to pretend, he used to ignore Nie when they were still peers in Cloud Recess. His perceived “arrogance” and “coldness” even cost him a dangerous enemy - Su She. This deep bow should be interpreted as “Regardless of your intention I am deeply grateful for your bringing my love back to life. After 16 years of waiting in unknown, I finally have chance to indulge him, protect him, stand by him, fulfill my untamed yet untold love with him.” -WY’s warning remarks to Nie were for Lan Zhan, and LZ’s bow to Nie was for Wei Ying. - The power duo naturally acted like one, their true love shown at its finest detail!
This show is applauded as “masterpiece” by worldwide audience despite that it was a pure fantasy rooted in ancient Chinese culture. Love, family, friendship, gratitude, evilness, greed, injustice, revenge are the eternal themes of mankind anytime and anywhere. The unpredictable plot, rich characters, directing, OST, costumes, sceneries, sets, great attention to fine details, outstanding acting made audiences go back and forth re-watching just to understand and appreciate more, and always find something new to be reckoned with. And every major character had their own arcs, their strength and weakness, their thin blurry line of goodness and darkness. Every character felt their actions were justified from their own perspective and circumstances, just like real life people.

Back in 2024 (feb 13, tuesday ) finished all 50 episodes today (at 23:45)...And i cried really hard as i did always, though it was not my first time watching it but i loved this drama since 2019 when i watched it for the very first time ❤hoping to see xiao zhan and wang yibo together in another drama !!! Lots of love 💕💕 "the untamed" will always be my #1 fav Chinese drama & Xiao Zhan & Wang yibo will always be my top fav actors 🤌🥺😍
Something I took from The Untamed and won’t ever let go of: “Only because it’s evil, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad.” Wei Wuxian did something out of society’s norms, and was considered evil, etc. but he did it and used it to protect those who he loves and are weak. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this series, it was amazing and heart touching!❤️

This ending is important because it's so symbolic.
People were obsessed to see Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan's married life (which I understand) but we don't understand how symbolic this ending is. The directors had to deal with the censorship but by doing so they still gave us a symbolic ending.
In this final separation Wei Wuxian says the same words as when he and Lan Zhan separated in episode 27. "I don't know where i'll go, but the world is big..." and Lan Zhan in episode 27 told him that he couldn't go back (because of the rules of the orthodoxy). But the context in episode 50 is totally different. This time Wei Wuxian has a safe home to return to (when he'll be ready). And this thanks to Lan Zhan. Taking the role of Chief Cultivator, Lan Zhan takes on the responsibility of defending the weak and defeating evil just as they both promised. (The chief cultivator is the leader of the cultivation world, he influences the various sects, he has the power of "summoning the winds and controlling rain".)
Lan Zhan wants to form a better world where outsiders like Wei Wuxian are no longer kicked out and persecuted. That's why Wei Wuxian can now walk away without fear that the dogs will chase him. That's why Wei Wuxian will be able to return in total peace, with no more regrets this time. Even apart, Lan Zhan will always protect him and will be by his side.
I don't even agree that Lan Zhan would never let Wei Wuxian go. uh, Lan Zhan always respected Wei Wuxian's freedom. And this is love. he never tried to put him in a cage like his father with his mother. Yes in his heart he would never want to leave him, but this is not a real goodbye and they both know it. They both have a strong confidence and trust as they never had before.
We can understand that the two will return soon together and this time forever. Because they are each other's home. Because they have chosen each other.

Yes. They are all amazing. They put so much effort into this show. If you look at one of the behind the scenes (bts) episodes Xiao Zhan (Wei Wuxian) say that Wang Yibo (Lan Zhan) had not slept for 2 or 3 days but still filmed no matter what. And Wang Yibo had said that Xiao Zhan was also filming another show at the same time as this one and yet the charatcers never mixed and he never lost that spark he had. Forever will be the best Show I have ever watched.

Idk why ppl complain about the ending. Lan Zhan doesn't want to force Wei Ying to live in Cloud Recess with him that restrict him with rules. He knows Wei Ying's character and wants Wei Ying to make the decision himself to live with him. After they parted ways and sometime passed, Wei Ying was shown to be back on the mountain at the back of Cloud Recess, showing he had decided to live together with Lan Zhan and played their song again. Just then, Lan Zhan came to see Wei Ying and said the song's name: Wang Xian, and the look on Wei Ying's face literally showed how relieved and happy he was that Lan Zhan accepted him after all these time. This is the most beautiful and powerful ending that deserves praise.

I think it’s more realistic this way as Lan Zhan was just waiting for Wei Ying to decide himself that he wanted to be with him at Cloud Recess. That’s why Lan Zhan thought that “he is way ahead of Wei Ying” regarding their song’s name. He is ready to spend his life with Wei Ying since their time at turtle cave, but he knew that Wei Ying wasn’t ready yet :D

This is the same mountain as the one shown at the beginning of the end credit scene, the one where lan zhan was shown to be bathing at. The thing about this drama is that it’s more than just a drama. Weiying is more than just a character. Because of Xiao Zhan's amazing acting skill, I feel like I’ve known weiying so well as if we’ve been friends for years. All the characters are well written. Every role in this drama was portrayed very well. Not even an episode is boring. Yibo portrayed Lan Zhan so well. The weird thing is, lanzhan and weiying didn't converse much but u can feel their strong bonds as if a thousand words were spoken. The trust and love lanzhan has for weiying is so beautiful and pure. Looking at their first encounter, who would have thought that they'll be this close. When the world goes against weiying, there's lanzhan still believing in him.
The ost are amazing. They got me crying all the time. The lyrics are so touching.

Such a heart-feeling drama teaching us the meaning of friendship and trust and I really loved and enjoyed it!! Thumbs up to the actors and the entire crew for the hardwork.

@@lightsaver246 I think the idea is, take it 'as you please'. That is perhaps nicely tied with the name of Wei Wuxian's sword, _sui bian_ , 'as you please' (although it's usually translated as 'whatever').
In the novel the series is based on, the two characters definitely end up as lovers, even husbands, and together, travelling together to deal with evil in the world, and also spending some time at Cloud Recesses. That is right after Wei WuXian has discovered Lan WangJi loves him, and has finally declared to Lan WangJi, 'I fancy you, I love you, I want you, I can’t leave you, I _as you please_ you'. And Lan WangJi does tell WEi WuXian the name of the song, which is a combination of bits of both their names joined together: 'WangXian' (or sometimes called 'WuJi').
Because of censorship, the TV series couldn't show that homosexual relationship. So the series creators chose to end the series this way.
So in this ending, I take it that Lan WangJi has turned around from the path he was walking and has come instead to find Wei WuXian. Perhaps this is because he heard the song Wei WuXian is playing again - 'WangXian'. It might be the next day, but not too long after they parted and went their opposite ways (Wei WuXian's robe is different from the one he was wearing when they parted, but the location is still those bare mountains, so Wei WuXian hasn't travelled very far yet). So Lan WangJi arrives behind Wei WuXian and L'il Apple, and says 'Wei Ying'. Wei WuXian stops playing abruptly - is stopped in his tracks - because he didn't expect it. Then he turns around and sees that Lan WangJi has followed him and come for him after all. So he smiles in relief and happiness.
Presumably, the implication is, Lan WangJi has changed his mind and means to travel around with Wei WuXian after all. Alternatively, I suppose he could be going to persuade Wei WuXian to come back to Cloud Recesses and operate from there.
Either way, I'm pretty sure the implication is, they're going to be together, join forces together, and operate for good together.
